Food is okay. Fried rice is extremely dry, almost inedible. Almost choked a few times. The price is good, but will not be coming back.

If we could leave a -1 we would. The food was absolutely disgusting. The pupu platter was the smallest saddest looking one I've ever seen and I am in my 60's. All the food was old or reheated by tossing it in a fryer. If we don't get sick it will be a miracle. The meat on a stick tasted bad as well. I'm telling you, don't do it. The food here isn't as good as it used to be from where they used to be located and they claimed to deliver yet they don't because I just called after I tried doing it online because it claims it delivers and they don't maybe doordash or something so you can get it cold but they personally don't deliver it which is what's needed when you get food like that in order for it to be hot and not throwing all over someone's trunk. Also if you do end up ordering through GrubHub or any of them to get this place I suggest you just don't even Mark anything in your notes cuz they don't read it I have people allergic to certain things here I asked for certain things like one thing to not be in there in my food and guess what? It was not only in my food there was more than I've ever seen almost like they did it out of spite. And I was very pleasant said please can you not add this because my child has an allergy to it thank you. I posted that on each note per order just to make sure that was not even in the order so you only had to not use one ingredient and it was littered with it and cold and when I open it up everything smushy and bland the beef sticks were disgusting I mean the place is really gone way downhill and charges way too much money for just sitting on their butts doing nothing they are offered decent food they don't offer delivery they don't even offer respectful conversation they're pretty rude usually although I've seen comments on here people saying they're polite maybe they find that one polite person there and I've always gotten the one jerk or something but or they're just saying that cuz they're a nice person. We had sandwiches instead of the $40 meal we bought. I usually stick to my couple favorite Chinese places, but I was working in Plainfield and this place had decent reviews and was right up the road. The breading in the shrimp wasn't cooked all the way thru. The boneless spare ribs were hard and dry. The beef in the Four Seasons meal had to have been leftover as it had a hole in one piece like steak teriyaki would. Snap peas looked like it had gone passed its "good by" date. 3 of the 4 breaded shrimp was thrown out. Spare ribs, thrown out. The four seasons meal? Thrown out. Crab Rangoon was thrown out as they were rubbery to chew. They also forgot our white rice for the Four Seasons meal. Anyway, lesson learned for going somewhere other than my usual and $40 down the drain. read more

SO excited that this place moved into town a few years ago. Canterbury is a small town and doesn't have much of ..well anything. This is your traditional Chinese American food. The food is always fresh and hot and is ready in 15 minutes or less no matter what time you call. The family that owns China Garden is extremely hard working and friendly. They always throw in an extra treat ( yum.. who doesn't love an extra surprise). I would recommend this place to anyone in the area or anyone passing through!! There's no way the negative reviews on here are accurate or truthful. Sounds like maybe a local business that saw them as a threat decided they would try to take them out with a few phony 1-star reviews. I live 6 minutes down the road from China Garden in Canterbury, CT. I've been going here since they opened years ago. The food here has always been the best, the freshest, and the most delicious Chinese food I've had. I was shocked when I came across these few 1-star reviews. I probably go here 5 times a month, which I have for the past 11 years. That means I've eaten here over 600 times since they opened, and I have never had a complaint about anything I've had here. Beside having the best Chinese food here, the family that runs this restaurant are the sweetest, kindest people I've met. Shame on those who left those phony reviews. Did you notice two negative reviews under two different names have the same profile picture? Fake, fake, fake. Those reviews should be deleted. I don't believe any of them. We live right up the road and always went to Hong Kong star in Plainfield. Now for take out, we choose China Garden. It has the best Lo Mein around this area, hands down. The boneless spare ribs are lean and thick, not like every other place. Just about everything I've ordered so far has been excellent. The food is always ready on time, I have never been disappointed. Been ordering here pretty regularly since they opened. Best Lo Mein around this area without question. Their lunch specials are priced right and always hot and fresh for me and I've ordered them 100's of times. I suppose anyone can have a bad day or deliver some "not so perfect" things during a very busy time, bad day or whatever, but there is no way this place deserves a 2.5 overall rating. I suppose we can thank the Karen's of the world for that one who do nothing but complain and leave one star reviews after one or two off experiences. I am happy these guys are around to give Canterbury some more options other than over priced "kinda okay" pizza and grinders with just the worst bread possible. P.S. I never leave a bad review, if they are truly serving bad food the problem will take care of itself. read more

Lived here in town 20+ years. China Garden used to be so so Chinese food. Now they've succeeded in making it truly awful. Undercooked egg rolls (nasty doughy mess), excessive dough on their shrimp to the point they shouldn't bother putting the microscopic shrimp in it at all, Kung poa chicken was missing several basic ingredients, house fried rice (REALLY how do you screw this up) was, I have no idea what it was, something other than anything related to what it should be. Won't waste your time on the rest of the order. Truly terrible! Place needs new owners and new chefs. Want so much to support our local businesses but this one needs to go away. So sad! read more

I've never come across a chinese restaurant that can mess up teriyaki sticks (what they left them in the fryolater to long?} Theres a reason no one goes here. General Tso chicken very good and they give you reusable "Tupperware". I recommend to people who are not afraid to drive to Canterbury.

China Garden is run by a hard-working family that wants a slice of the American dream just like the rest of us. I've been going there since they opened and they've always gotten my order right and it's always hot and amazingly fast. Don't bother ordering online if your ordering for multiple different orders. My coworkers ordered lunch online, within a few minutes of eachother. My coworker went to pick up the lunch half an hour later and told us that it would be another 20 minutes, and that something was wrong with our order. One of the coworkers phone's had been blown up with over 25 emails, and two calls from out of state. Saying that our order had been cancelled and our card flagged. We called the restaurant was told that we needed to come down with an ID and card associated with the order. We showed up, only to have one of the workers screaming at us for 'fake ordering' and him being so confused.He literally yelled at us for five minutes. He took our cards and ID's and wrote down all our information, and gave us our food. We left, and went to enjoy our food over an hour after we had placed our order. 10 minutes into our meal, we got a call that the orders hadn't been payed for even though they had our card information. We had to go back a third time to pay. If your online ordering services flags actual customers please take it off your website, and say call to place an order. It was extremely rude to have a worker yell at us for something we had no control over. read more
