Ouff, I really wanted to like this place but it really was not it for me. Let's start off with the fact that this hot pot spot has been opened for over ten years in Markham, but yet this was my first (and unfortunately last) time I visited. Another case of, don't believe everything you see on social media, because it was getting hyped by a lot of foodies online. I came with a party of 12 adults and one baby and we were split into two tables - not a problem. Where it started getting weird was our server that kept rushing us to order our soup bases, when half our party was just sitting down (literally bums not even on our seats yet), and was visibly getting annoyed when we each took turns looking at the ONE ipad to choose our soup bases. You order your soup bases and meats with the server. All other items like vegetables and other cooked items are self serve and you have to get up to get your food. They also have a large sauce bar, variety of fruits, desserts, and unlimited soda cans. They did have a 2 item per person policy for their more expensive food items like abalone, snakehead fish, and a few more. Now onto why this review is just a 2 star. It's quite expensive for the quality of food you get. The starting price per adult is $50 + your soup base of choice ranging from $16-$20. prior to tax and tip that's already sitting at $70 per person. HEFTY price tag for what you get. The quality of food is also not that great, since there's not a lot of diners in the restaurant, they don't refill their food items. Most of the things are very picked over and doesn't look that appetizing. Prime example being their fruits and their two ice cream tubs, which were almost fully finished but not replenished. When we asked for fried sesame balls, the wait staff only brought out 4, and when we asked for more, the waiters response was he will bring more once we finish the 4 balls - spoiler - he never brought any out for the rest of the night even though there was no more. I unfortunately won't be coming back, as there's a lot more better competition of hot pot restaurants out there that have far higher quality than this spot. It's unfortunately a skip for me.

XiangZi Hotpot is GTA's biggest AYCE Hotpot Spot, with 200+ delicious menu options including 6 flavourful broths, tender meats, fresh vegetables and fruits, cold dishes, appetizers, and desserts. This two-storey restaurant teatures a spacious interior with aesthetic decor and welcoming atmosphere. It is known as one of the Top Sichuan Restaurants in Markham and has been serving the community for more than 10 years. We had an amazing experience here. Their staff are friendly and helpful and the service here is fast. There are plenty of free parking spots in the area. We will visit again when we're in the area.

First off, didn't get any good pictures, because I kind of forgot. This place is massive with a ancient palace vibe to it, parts of the restaurant seemed a bit dark - there was some nice instrumentals playing in the background , giving off those zen vibes. Service was - I was not impressed, we came at lunch and all the hot food was not available , and were still stocking up the raw , and they weren't done stocking up by the time we left. The gram really hyped this all the way up, but maybe the good experiences happen at dinner time? - but if you are not ready for business at lunch, then maybe you shouldn't be open for lunch? - just a thought. From the food that we did manage to try , was pretty good, broth was super on point. - sauce bar had some missing labels , so good luck with the mystery liquids. I definitely will not be back for a lunch , but I might give it a second chance for a dinner in the future.

Service was poor. We barely so any staff from checking in to other services. Food was not replenished and seem stale. The dessert was quite empty. The place looks massive and IG worthy but overall environment was so so.

A large selection of food for all types of diets (we had a shellfish allergy in our group, which is usually difficult for hotpot). There is cooked foods available for you to eat while you wait for your raw foods to cook. Each person gets their own pot, and you can choose to have a full pot of a single broth, or a mix of 2 small broths. It is quite pricey (~$70 after tax) and you have to pay for the broth, but definitely fills you up. Service was poor, where it took forever to wave down for a server. When refilling our broth, the server knocked down a can of coke and didn't follow up with it.

3.5/5 We're neither hotpot nor AYCE fans but we don't mind to do this once in a while. It's our first visit here, when we stepped in, we're impressed by the beautiful Chinese decor, we love the vibe. Same as many Chinese restaurants, they hire mostly young servers who are efficient & courteous, they always 'patrol' the floor to refill hotpot soup, clear dishes and attend to customers' needs. As an AYCE place, food varieties were good, but dessert variety was minimal, and water melon was the only fruit choice. Hotpot foods were reasonably good, but don't order bbq skewers, they were over grilled & dried, heavily marinated with cumin and served when we almost finished our dinner, that's not ideal. Service was good and we don't mind to visit again in future.

Been wanting to try this place since I saw it opening a few years ago. I finally made it last Tuesday evening after going to the gym Downtown Markham which is just a few minutes away from this place. When my friend called the day before to inquire whether you can do individual pots (you can), they recommended that we make a reservation. I thought interesting, how busy can it be on a Tuesday evening? Well, upon arrival, I laughed as the restaurant was not busy at all. The service was amazing! The ladies are attentive. They had covers for people who wore jackets inside (I didn't as I know how much the smells can stick & a jacket is not as easy to wash as regular clothes). They also brought any dishes to us that was freshly prepared and offered it directly to us instead of us possibly miss ordering it through the iPad. All the food items are ordered and submitted using an iPad. The only thing you need to get up for is to make/get your sauces at the sauce station. I actually didn't bother getting any as the food started arriving (they are pretty quick and on top of this) and was very hungry. I also heard that the tomato based soup broth is very flavorful and no additional sauce is needed which I found true. My 3 star rating is mostly due to the cost of this ACYE hot pot... $35.99 for weekday pricing + an additional $10.99 per person based on the soup base selected. $35.99 is decent in today's world for ACYE but an additional $10.99 for broth is steep. If it was around $5.99 then I'm all in. Also, on their website, I saw pictures of abalone, crab, lobster sashimi (all this high end items) but none of it was available. It must of been for weekend pricing only so I wish they would state this somewhere on their website. It was decent hot pot but for the price, there are so many other places I can and want to try. I would not come back here again.

I was really excited because I've been wanting to try this hotpot place for a while as I pass by it quite often. I was a bit disappointed because the service wasn't really good. We came on a weekday and wasn't busy but our server seemed unhappy when explaining how everything worked. When we asked for tissues as we didn't get any, she sighed then went to get it. Another time we asked her to refill the soup, she poured like very little as if she was trying to save it? So we ended up asking other servers to refill our soup and for other items the rest of the night. You can order meats and other items on the iPad. As well as get your own outside, they have different selections for fruits, hot snacks and more. They have a premium menu that is limited two dishes per person. Don't make the mistake like me of getting the cuttlefish as a premium item because they literally have it outside. I did like that they had pork neck and the fancy interior. I think this hotpot place is a bit pricey and the food selection they have is pretty average compared to the other AYCE hotpot places around.

So I visited this place wayyyy back (pre-covid), visited again once they reopened to the public after quarantine measures were lifted and recently, came BACK for my gf's mom's bday. The first time I came w/ my friends (pre-covid) this resto blew my mind. It's a 2 floor resto with ice beds and buffet stations on the main floor. The way the resto USED to work before covid, was that they laid out all the seafood and meat at the buffet station. I'm talking SCALLOPS, ABALONE, SEA CUCUMBER, etc. And ALL of these premium items were INCLUDED in the price and you could grab an UNLIMITED amount and then they would REFILL the ice bed. I vividly remember gleefully bringing two full plates of giant scallops back to my table on that first visit. My friends and I thought we had discovered the casino jackpot when it came to good hotpot. Yes, the price was mad high compared to its counterparts in york region, but we thought it was definitely justified given how much was actually included in the overall price. Fast forward to post-quarantine, my friends and I visited and were SOO disappointed with the way the resto was running. They removed all the seafood and unique items from the ice beds and buffet stations. Instead, they replaced everything with cold appetizers and salads as well as desserts. They implemented an ipad ordering system (1 ipad per table) and all the premium seafood that had once been INCLUDED in the overall price, suddenly became a limit of 2 per person. Upset is not even the right word. I had literally been looking forward to unlimited scallops but now I only get 2? LAME. The premium angus beef cubes weren't really premium either btw. You're better off sticking with the regular sliced beef, lamb, pork on the menu as it's marbled enough. The angus cubes were actually kinda tough. My friends and I had a good laugh as the cubes were listed as a premium item. I thought it was understandable at the time why they moved things off the ice bed in the open for anyone to touch, but removing premium seafood from the AYCE price altogether seemed very sneaky and shady. Fast forward again to present day and my gf's mom (and her sis's bf) decided to host a joint bday dinner here. I had my fingers crossed hoping that the resto reverted to laying everything back out on the ice beds. To my dismay, they stuck w/ the same stations and ipad ordering system from my 2nd visit. If there's one thing that's remained consistent, it's good service and the quality of the sliced meat. Very well marbled meat, EXCELLENT sauce bar (very promptly refilled too) and the table service is A++. They brought the initial round of meat to the table with some dry ice presentation which was really cool for video taking. Perhaps, I'm being harsh or finicky but it can't be helped. I remember what this place was like pre-covid and how much value you got with the premium items included, like the unlimited scallops. I'm struggling to award 4 stars even though they might deserve it based on the meat quality. You're essentially paying a higher price at Xiangzi for a meal that USED to include a TON more items in the price. Caveats: - unlimited melonas which is nice - unlimited coconut milk which is nice (these are so bad for you but I love em) - aprons provided for every guest and seat covers for your jackets/outerwear - private rooms upstairs

It was an okay experience for the price, I would just go to another hot pot place. The restaurant itself was huge and packed. Took awhile for us to get seated and they give you an apron to use which was great. There was a lot to choose from and you're able to get premium dishes too. It's pretty good quality for the price but not sure if I'd come back again.

I wanted to try a restaurant in markham where there was nice decor and my cousin recommended this place. As we were seated, the waiters gave us bibs and a ziplock for our masks which I thought was so considerate. We chose our soup bases and chose the next level in the taste of Xiangzi. There were interesting varieties of food. For some reason my boyfriend and I had an offer to get a few free dishes, I forget the deal. I think we got the more expensive soups. We ordered a beef, tripe, and something else ..maybe tendons. We also had another table of four with four seniors and they got a discount but didn't get the extra dishes. No worries because we were able to share our premium dish with them. Overall, the food was okay. The decor was beautiful. Service was top notch. I didn't have Canadian cash so ended up paying by debit since they didn't accept credit card and it wouldn't be worth it to pay in USD.

    Rachel L.

The decor of this place is really nice! We were a group of 6 and our bill came to $360 after tips and tax. Aside from the soup base, we didn't order any premium items. A handful of variety to pick from. Some unique items I haven't seen before. They also have skewers and cold dishes to select from. The service was mediocre at best. It was hard to track down our server and some of their attitude were kind of rude. It's a decent place to try, and I am glad I did, but I am not sure I would be back.

New sauerkraut fish soup spot in Markham…read more A chain from asia that has finally made it's way to Markham. They are known for their sauerkraut fish soup that comes with unlimited self serve rice on the side. Servers were attentive, spacing of the seating and tables were tight. Often times people kept brushing up against my chair while getting up to go get their rounds of rice. Although not a deal breaker, was annoying while trying to enjoy your food. The portions are big enough for 2 if you get a large, but since it was our first time we wanted to try 2 different soups. Here's what we got: Chicken wings 4/5 - Came out raw the first time after we bit into it. But quickly flagged a server to let them know how this issue. They brought us a new one shortly after that was perfectly cooked, juicy and crispy on the outside. Laotan boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chili 4/5 - Their number one classic so we had to try. It's sour and spicy with the right amount of kick to it. Basa fish filets were also tasty. Came out luke warm. Princess's tomato fish 4/5 - Packed with tomato flavour. Savoury and paired well with the basa fish filet. Came with bean curd noodles as well. Came out luke warm. No extra charge for any of that with this combo, so... why not? I got the scallion pickled cabbage fish soup (mild spice) and my friend went for the Laotan boiled fish (a bit spicier). For the snack, we picked half Taiwanese sausage and half glutinous rice cake to get both savoury and dessert vibes. When the bowls came out, they looked huge, but the portion was kinda deceiving... it's a very wide, shallow bowl, so the amount of actual soup wasn't as generous as it looked. For a fish soup restaurant, I definitely expected a deeper bowl. But the fish itself was fresh with that nice bouncy texture, plus vermicelli and a solid amount of pickled veggies. They also have a self-serve rice station with both white rice and multigrain rice. The rice cookers even have little signs showing when a new batch is cooking, which I thought was cute and convenient. Overall, flavour wise, it was solid and the promo made it worth the visit.
