And a costa coffee shop which we went into I had a latte and a Cumberland sausage toasted cheese sandwich which was really tasty and she had a Americano coffee and a chocolate brownie the staff we're really nice even though it was nearly closing time they still served us and didn't rush us to leave. A vast, amazing, variety of Roses with helpful advice on choosing a perfectly named rose for that Special Occasion. The Clematis section is always good, too. Nursery staff are real experts and will spend time explaining & advising. I am always spoilt for choice here. All this in a lovely setting that you just can't help wandering around, there are hidden treasures at every turn. Watch out for the Elephant !!! Shame it is closed on Sundays. They have enlarged the Car park so there is plenty of space now.

However, they are the biggest and have a few more strings to their bow apart from the garden centre At this of year, I like to add some seasonal vegetables just for the year and perhaps plant a new fruit bush or tree which will yield a bountiful harvest over many years. Sometimes, some herb plants may need replacing after a harsh winter though it wasn't too bad a winter this time I also love to browse their aquarium area though I've discovered through experience that my doctoring skills sadly don't extend to my finned friends, so I now confine myself to looking at the fishes! They have a nice cafe with hot and cold food as well as cakes and drinks for a snack, hence catering for different types of meals. Edinburgh Woollen Mills have an area with clothing and there's a small book department too Like the start of a new football season, spring brings with it a season of hope and limitless opportunities in the garden!

With the proximity of the nationally well known Heron's Bonsai nursery; a broad spectrum of dwarf conifers are stocked with an emphasis on Pines, Spruces and Ginkgos to tempt customers looking to try their hand at creating Bonsai trees. On a more general theme, a wide range of perennials, Japanese Acers, shrubs - both rare and common, are produced. The nursery also stocks a selection of terracotta and glazed pots from very large sizes, the modern cylinders and cubes, to the more economically priced pots from 99pence each. Visitors can look around the display gardens which stock a number of the 50+ Heucheras grown at the nursery while some of the 100+ varieties of Hosta are also on show. Everyone I talked to was hugely knowledgeable about the plants they sold, and were able to tell me which plants were appropriate for the different parts of our garden. There is a huge selection of garden statues, which my older son loves wandering through. Our family was very loyal to this place for Christmas trees--the selection was always vast and the trees were just gorgeous. Okay, so we paid a quid or two more than, say, Homebase, but to me it was worth it to see the trees (Homebase wraps theirs in netting) in all their glory, plus the trees just seemed nicer, greener, more hearty. This is a true gardener's nursery, don't come here if you're looking for the mountains of tat many nurseries have started to sell, but if you're looking for good quality and variety in your plants, please give this place a go.
