This office acknowledged the challenges and mentioned that there are things we can do together to help alleviate my dog's anxiety over time including how she is handled by staff which is more important than just jumping to the strongest drugs and ripping through an exam. Dr. Fujie was exceptional: knowledgeable, compassionate, and always took the time to explain what was happening and what our options were. When you have a dog who is more than a pet, he's your companion, your shadow, your best friend, that kind of care means everything. Then things changed. My dog is 13 years young. I brought him in for vaccinations and a wellness checkup, where Dr. Romman heard a heart murmur and recommended an X-ray. The results showed an enlarged heart, later confirmed by a radiologist to include tumors on his heart and thyroid. When those results came back, I called to speak with Dr. Romman -- not only to understand what we were facing, but to ask something as simple as whether it was safe to board him while we traveled. I never got that call back. What I received was a call to schedule an EKG. When we returned from our trip, I called again. And again, the following week. My wife finally did hear from Dr. Romman. When my wife let me know what was shared, I asked if they would do anything because of his age or how much time he has left. I called back to have a conversation and when I did get a call from Dr Romman, she spent more time explaining they had tried to reach me than talking about my dog's care. We were eventually referred to an oncologist at Blue Pearl, where we learned that surgery and chemo were not options at his age. We were told to enjoy the time we had left with him. Today, I called because my boy's stomach had become severely bloated and he was gagging more than before. He had lost weight because he was not eating and by switching to canned food, he got his appetite back. I got an appointment to be seen that afternoon, only to receive a callback minutes later with a staff member relaying that Dr. Romman wanted to know "what I wanted to accomplish from the visit." I stated he has a bloated stomach and what I read online, it could be serious like a twisted stomach and my goal was to hopefully address this health issue. She replied that I needed to see a specialist and they were a general practice clinic and do not have the specialized equipment to treat my dog. The Pet Dr. website says 'Our veterinarians offer a wide variety of medical, surgical and dental services. Our hospital has advanced equipment and technologies, including comprehensive in-house testing for accurate diagnosis, digital x-ray, surgical suite, dental suite and a pharmacy. I asked if he did not have tumors and we just called for a bloated stomach would he be seen or sent to a specialist. She said to a specialist. She told me Dr. Romman would see us if we wanted palliative care. I am trying to keep our best friend comfortable and happy for whatever time he has left and not just put him down. This is a dog who has been a patient here for nearly a decade. He is not a case number, he is family. He deserved better. We deserved better. If you are navigating a serious diagnosis with a senior pet and simply need a compassionate vet in your corner, please consider whether this practice will show up for you when it truly matters. After the examination, the doctor told me she couldn't find anything wrong with him and couldn't understand where the fever was coming from. We were sent home with antibiotics for my cat. I was left believing that they had thoroughly examined him and that there was nothing obvious causing his symptoms. The next day, I decided to carefully examine my cat's body myself because I was still very concerned about him. I was shocked to find open wounds and scratches on his head. (Photos attached )These were not hidden or impossible to notice. I was very surprised that after a professional veterinary examination, I was told they could not find anything wrong. I paid for the examination and additional testing because I trusted the clinic to properly evaluate my cat. I spoke with the assistant manager, who asked me to give her a couple of days to look into the situation and talk to the Manager and get back to me. She never did. I had to physically return after 12 days to the clinic again because I never received a call or any follow-up. When I finally spoke with the manager, he gave me one explanation that how this could've been missed... After a long conversation he told me that he was not going to give me any refund because doing so would mean admitting that the clinic/vet had made a mistake. That was extremely frustrating and disappointing to hear. As a pet owner, this experience has been incredibly upsetting. I trusted this clinic with my cat's health, and I expected a thorough examination and proper follow-up. Being told that they "didn't find anything wrong," only for me to find open wounds and scratches on my cat the very next day, is something I find extremely difficult to accept.The lack of accountability and communication is what has disappointed me the most. I want to make one thing very clear we were never doing this to get a refund but the least they could've done after failing the physical examination...What we wanted was accountability.There were several reasonable options the clinic could have offered after the situation came to light. Nonethless, each visit we were treated as though my pup is something to be feared. I worked diligently to support him, providing treats and a muzzle as needed. I took the staff feedback yet I always felt like they did not care and were afraid. Feelings are not facts so here are some facts: He presented with allergy issues. I started cytopoint at $275 every 4 weeks. This totaled over $3,000. He was having paw issues. Never was he given a cytology. I continued to bring him every 4 weeks for care with no improvement. My concerns were dismissed from every staff member I encountered. I saw another vet and he was immediately tested and turns out he had staph. In his paws. Which required an extremely high dosage of antibiotics for 3 weeks and a prayer that his staph was not drug resistant He also had a significant reaction to anxiety medication for pre vet care. I describe it as doggy psychosis and detailed the scary symptoms. When I reported my concerns I was dismissed and in fact told to double the dose. In a text. From a Receptionist. No call. No concern for his well being despite me calling and asking for a call back. When I stated I would not give those meds again I was told pre vet med was not optional and I should consider a mobile or other vet. No asking how he was doing, is he getting better or offering care. I met with the hospital manager. She listened and affirmed my concerns. I appreciated her time. I checked in a few times and was told it was being investigated. More than 7 weeks after my initial meeting I was given a response via email that stated I did not share any concerns and that his staoh could have been uncontrolled allergies. There has been zero effort from corporate to rectify this, only blaming pet and owner. Yet again this team is dismissive and unprofessional. Never will I ever recommend this vet for any pet care. It is disgraceful and shameful the way I and my pet have been treated. The greatest disappointment is this vet center used to be exceptional- my previous dog had amazing care under the previous vets. Selling to a corporation has been a massive decline in quality of care and staff.
