Jelly Egg - Jellyegg Art Gallery, Narberth

Jelly Egg

(3 reviews)

More often than not people sharing a bag of Haribo Starmix raid it for all the jelly eggs they can…read morefind before leaving the less fortunates to the foam hearts and the unforgiving tooth-challengers - the practically unbreakable enemies known as the teddy bears and the rings. Well, considering they're usually the most popular sweet in the Haribo family, you can't knock the people behind Jelly Egg for naming their shop such. It's a strange name. It's quirky. But I like strange. I like quirky. And gawsh, do I like this shop. Narberth is stacked with boutiques that have art galleries on their top floor and gifts and homeware everywhere else. So you'd be forgiven for wondering if there's anything between them really. Is one really better than the other? Hmm. If it's at all possible, they're all as good as one another. So what's to lose? Nothing, apart from the contents of your wallet. And perhaps your credit rating. There's plenty here to feast your eyes on, from awesome unique pieces from local artists to quirky little signs for the walls of your house, antique clocks, sculptures, coasters, kitchen gadgets... it's got the lot. You can find pressies for those hard to buy for folks or self-indulgent little treats for your own homestead, and while the prices may reflect the quality at least you know you're getting something local and supporting indie businesses. So fill your boots! This egg's far too sweet to resist...

Love this gift shop!! Upstairs you will find many beautiful pictures and large ornaments for sale…read morewhile downstairs there are hundreds of smaller gifts to choose from. Amongst many other tempting things, there are particularly gorgeous glass mobiles and chimes, pretty china and tableware. I especially liked the sets of glass coasters which you can fill with your own photos! (£5 for set of 4). A superb range of decorative bags and Croc shoes too. Laura who was behind the counter last week was really friendly and couldn't have been more helpful.

Queens Hall - Old Town Hall, Narberth

Queens Hall

(2 reviews)

This is a striking old building which has been renovated and, these days, is a gallery and gift…read moreshop. Originally, it was listed as a 'a lock up house with a room over it in which a magistrates court and parochial meetings were held'. In 1858 it was falling into very bad repair so the court and magistrates relocated to a new building. The Town Hall then became a 'Mechanics Institute' which included a library. In 1881 a clock tower was built and in 1912 another floor was added. Easy to find as it's up a very unusual double stairway (unfortunately I didn't capture that in my photo) and can be seen from many parts of the town.

The queens hall in narberth is great! A real community hall where all sorts of events take place…read more It has a brilliant stage, and many music events are held. There are a quite a few local bands which are very popular, and this is the place to come and watch them. Christmas time is tgood as special acoustic night etc are organised. Battles of the bands and such like. There is also occasionally big name bands playing here, pendulum played recently! The prices are great, and always very reasonalbe. There is a good bar, and lots of seating around the edge and at the back of the main floor area. They ahve a very good policy and underaged people have a wrist band on, so they dont get served alcohol. There is also a cafe that is open during the day. And an art gallery upstairs, which showcases local artisst exhibitions aswel as visiting artists. All in all this is a fantic community hall type place, and there should be more of them!
