Becon Is the TV station for Broward County schools. They play an important role in the education…read moresystem by covering the school board meetings, providing educational dvds, hosting culturally rich talk shows and educating students on TV production. The staff are fabulous. The director is very kind and knowledgeable. He even took the time to give me a tour. The production staff are amazing. They snap into action on a moments notice and keep a family like atmosphere amongst them. The station manager cares for the place as if he were a captain and it was his ship. He is truly dedicated to the preservation of the integrity of the station. You can also order teacher supplies online at a fraction of the price through their Teacher Resource Store. They offer educational dvds, posters and great things like stem and word wall flip books. I bought their award winning series Up Down and Around and It's the Write Time. They teach children manuscript and cursive writing while having fun.

The guy there lets me DJ once a month on their state of the art equipment, although the needle on the left turntable is always messed up so I have to bring my own from home. I looked up Jolts on Yelp but didn't see them, they're still just a small, modest mom n pop operation. I created their page here so I could write a review and share with the world my experiences at Jolts. There's a guy who likes to hang out there on the days I go, his name is Robbbie Brandy (like the drink). He's always playing music from genres I've never heard of like grindcore, power electronics, national socialist black metal, doom gaze, sound puzzle, bukkake-core, Chinese Opera, no-fi, ...just to name a few. I guess u can say Jolts is pretty "eclectic" with their programming. The Jolts studio itself is located at an up-and-coming block in historical Allapattah which is slowly but surely being gentrifried by artist studios and stores selling yoga pants for babies. But don't dismay, Jolts is the REAL DEAL. A creative platform that gives a voice to their community. I travel there once a month from Fort Lauderdale, so I certainly know what community is all about. PROS: Being able to be a part of Jolts' creative community. I get a free glass of water every time I go, in an actual GLASS! CONS: Google maps didn't let me know about traffic on I95, so I got there late yesterday.

I checked out their website and they seem quite active. I didn't even know about their existence, this for living a few years living on the other side of The Roads, one block for calle ocho (until I moved 2 months ago to The Roads on the boarder with Brickell). The staff was very friendly and this newspaper is a must read. Check out their website! And they also do advertising for local businesses!
