The others are all in the Cardiff area - including Newport - except for Swansea which is not that far to the West. Anyway it's definitely a busy station and it's pretty modern because of that, and looks like it was just built recently, although there are still some older elements to it. The station dates to 1850, when it was opened along with the rest of the South Wales Railway from Chepstow to Swansea. The original station building - an attractive stone building in a domestic Italianate Style - still survives, on the Down Line (to Swansea), although in the 1980s a new entrance and ticket hall in glass were erected at one end. The buildings on platform 2 (towards Cardiff and London) also date from the early 1980s. The original buildings of 1850 are Listed at Grade II. As well as the hourly 125 mph (200 kph) London-Swansea service, the station is served by the hourly Maesteg-Cardiff trains, and is the terminus for the hourly trains from Cardiff via the Vale of Glamorgan Line, which terminate in the newly built platform 1A. It is also served by the regular services to and from West Wales and the North West of England. The ticket and information offices are on platform 1 at the entrance, but the toilets and large (privately-run) buffet are on platform 2. The station has step-free access throughout, although passengers requiring assistance are advised to telephone in advance for wheelchair ramps, etc. The station has limited cycle-storage facilities, a taxi rank and a large 100-space car park (charges apply). Big trains come through here often and it's pretty busy. Surprisingly so considering how small Neath is. The downsides were: Demanding a swipe of your credit card before signing in even though my company pays. This is a pet hate of mine. The food, although very pretty, was expensive and tiny in the restaurant if you need to walk anywhere, which I did, there are no footpaths outside the hotel leading to the nearest major road. I had to walk in the road or on the wet grass, neither very satisfactory will dragging a wheelie case. The remote for the telly didn't turn it on, just off. The wifi in the room was almost non existent. Other than that fine :-)

The staff a quite friendly and helpful. The hotel hosts quite a few parties and events at Christmas time.

Monday to Saturday, the train to/from Cardiff runs every 15 minutes or so. On Sundays, the train runs every two hours. Be prepared. There is a staffed ticket booth during some hours but the rest of the time there is just the automated ticket vending machine. There are no ticket barricades and there is step free access. There is a confectionery/soda vending machine. The bus station/depot is attached and there is a taxi stand just opposite.

This is a little station out in the middle of suburban Swansea, in a fairly industrial area. It's in a little village that's close to Swansea and only has a train every 2 hours, which means for 1 hour 55 minutes a day it's basically a ghost town. It used to be an old little cute station with weird towers in the middle of the track, but they got rid of the towers unfortunately. I'd rather use the Welsh name for the town if only I could figure out how to pronounce it. Because the Welsh are not Britons in my opinion, or most of theirs.

There are local services from here to all the nearby towns and villages and the First Cymru buses run to Neath, Swansea, Bridgend and Cardiff. National Express coaches also go to Birmingham, London, and the larger towns further west within Wales. Inside you have a very traditional drinking mans pub complete with ceramic pottery drink tankards hanging up, bar room mirrors and left over Xmas decorations from a few months ago ! The place does boast Sky Sports & has a separate longe and bar area. Drinks can be expensive i.e. a pint of Guinness costs £3.75. No meals are served but bar snacks are available. Staff are very friendly & helpful. Clintele are very sociable too, as underlined by the pub being very busy despite being a small pub in size. Proximity to main shopping centre & nearby to the Arts Centre make it worth a call in.
