I tried cancelling my membership and bryanna, the manager was so rude and refused to process my cancellation. she said that I need to mail in certified mail to the head office to be able to cancel. she was giving me a lot off attitude because she did not want to deal with me for some reason, maybe she has a hangup about doing her job? I called the head office and they said this was not true! so bryanna is a liar and a cheater! she tried to cheat me out of my money. I am not happy at all. i would give this 0 stars if i could. Stopped in the other day looking to get more information on a corporate membership for my employees (48) local to Barrie, and their families. The manager was not in... happens, I did drop in. The front desk worker, Sherr, was immaculate and truly helpful! so helpful that she deserves to be named and commended on her professionalism and passion for the place. That's the kind of front desk worker any company wants, but sadly lacked the authority to discuss any sort of deal for my staff and I. she herself sold me on gym. I came back 3 times looking to speak to the manager and left my number each time. Was greeted warmly and professionally each time and even tried to make an appointment to see the manager and was advised nobody really knows her schedule. well... I wish I could give these crooks less than 1 star. When my daughter had a membership, she broke her foot and couldn't walk. As it was my credit card and I had to have it replaced, I never thought about it. They are demanding over $700. That's extortion for a 1 year membership she never enjoyed. They've never once contacted me or her before or after contacting a credit agency. This is complete b/s I recommend staying far far away from this company. We tried canceling a membership over 2 years ago and like everyone else in this thread, either the manager was never around to take the request or the emails and phone calls were never responded too. The time we do go into cancel and no manager is available. Absolute scam that they sent this to a creditor with no email saying that was happening. I got a membership from this World Gym location in January of 2020 and due to the pandemic I was unable to use it very much. Even when restrictions were lifted and they would re-open. This is at no fault of theirs, however, it is the reason I decided to cancel my membership for the time being because it doesn't make sense to pay full price for a 24/7 gym that is no longer 24/7. I emailed the gym in October 2020, sent in the forms and jumped through the hoops to cancel my membership for January 2021. To which they had accepted. I needed to complete one calendar year in order to avoid paying the penalty. It is now February 2021 and they are still charging my card and refusing to refund. The emails I have received from management have been with a rude tone and not at all empathetic to their actions or the fact that we are all going through a pandemic and may not have the means to pay for this memberships ... is this how customer service is now?? Also, World Gym just recently send out a mass email to their clients (in February 2021) saying they are no longer accepting membership cancelations by email, phone or in-person. You MUST send a cancelation form (which is given to you by requesting it through email) and send it my registered mail. This is something to think about before getting a membership here. They're making it impossible to cancel and even when you do cancel, they still charge you. I will not be returning to this gym. read more

I have the same issue as the individual that posted on Feb 7, 2023. Due to being immune compromised we cancelled our membership with the Barrie Gym back in Oct 2020 after paying the amount advised to bring both my husband and my account up to date. The cancellation was never done and now we are receiving collection letters advising that they will be putting a lean on our house... Are you kidding me. We have been in touch with our counsellor who has reached out to his contact at CTV News. I sent an email advising that we are prepared to take legal measures but gave them the opportunity to set things right, the manager Nichol has never responded. I called and spoke to Lakshay who actually confirmed that they received these final payments but said there was nothing he could do and for me to get in touch with Nichole. I asked him how was I to get in touch with her when she never returns phone calls or responds to emails, his response was to put me on hold and never come back to the phone. I tried to call back and no one picked up the call. I have also been in touch with the collection agency who advises that they will not stop action because they have no knowledge of the history of our accounts. When I advised them that I have an email advising of the cancelation agreement they said that they will not accept emails as proof. Next step is to get our lawyer involved, and you can bet I will be requesting compensation for the anguish and stress that this has caused us. read more

STAY AWAY NO ETHICS Whatsoever!! Just want your money and scam people due to the small print on the contract. Just before Christmas 2022 I received a letter from a collections agency for a charge $2800 in regards to a payment we allegedly owed to World Gym Barrie. This letter was a huge shock for my wife and I so much that my wife can barely sleep at night as we cannot afford to pay this, and on top of it is so close to Christmas. This caused our family extreme anxiety and mental health issues. In this letter we simply saw the charge of over $2800 with not details of what the charges are for. Some history. My wife went to the gym maybe 5 times approximately 3 years ago and hasn't been since. She attempted to cancel her membership by phone many times and left multiple messages over the past 2 years with no response. She also attempted to cancel the message via the world gym local chat on the local world gym page in early, 2021 She received a response stating , "Hey there, currently we do not have staff at our facility answering phone calls or emails. Unfortunately, you will have to wait to cancel your membership. You currently aren't being charged your mostly membership fee as they've been placed on hold. We appreciate your patience during this time." After that there was again no further communication from anyone at your location with any direction or updates on re-opening, payment issues, payment and membership concerns or the gym re opening... nothing at all. She spoke to a gentleman on the phone asking to speak to a manager in December 2023 and he said that there isn't a manager available and no one at the Barrie World Gym can do anything in regards to the charges as this has gone to collections. We were also unaware of any issues in payment until we received the letter from the collections agency asking for over $2800 as no one at the gym had ever sent any email or called her. We requested a statement outlining the charges from the gentlemen yesterday and we haven't received anything so we aren't even aware of any additional NSF charges that may have been added that she wasn't aware of. The management wouldn't speak to us about any of this as it had gone to collections with out giving us a chance to pay throughout. Basically the response was basically the contract says that you must keep paying and that's it and no matter what attempts you make to communicate with the gym to cancel, email, texts, phone calls, etc it will not be accepted. So basically they could continue to charge for years and years with the charge increasing and increasing and you have no recourse and they won't communicate with you as they will are backed by the contract and of course it is more money in their pockets. STAY AWAY... this is the most unethical management that I've seen in my life and by all the other posts I am not alone and not the first person to have been taken advantage of! read more

Horrible management.... absolutely atrocious facility. The female manager- I believe her name is Nicole- is incompetent and useless. She fails to return any phone calls or emails from members, and barely comes into the gym. I always thought managers should have scheduled hours. The other manager/owner Sukha I believe is the name... is never to be seen. This makes no sense. There's always just a bunch of 20 year old boys at the front desk who direct me to this Nikki and Sukha. I feel bad for these employees as they are just trying to do their jobs meanwhile their hands are tied since these managers don't do anything. Further.... let's not forget how disgustingly dirty this facility is. There has been the same lime green towel pushed up against a door on the floor for YEARS!!! This towel is crusty and moldy... PUKE. I was also told there are DRAIN FLIES in the shower drains... EWWW. I don't know who would even consider showering in this facility in the first place... but the brave souls I know who have taken such an endeavour have informed me of these nasty flies. Also... there is barely ever any soap in the women's change room, and all of the toilet paper dispensers are broken. The mens change room reeks of mold and sewage. I also would not be surprised if the air vents at this gym have not been cleaned in years... the air in general throughout this facility feels heavy and hot and smells disgusting. Oh and lets not forget the fact that there are hardly ever paper towels in any of the dispensers, or disinfectant spray bottles. The front desk says the managers want to use cloths instead of paper towels however there are never any cloths to use... so gross!! Especially considering the ongoing Covid outbreaks. This place NEEDS to be shut the hell down!!! read more

Hard to cancel. Can't take Amex as a payment and they are charging $35 non payment fee to those Amex users when it is their processors fault. They ended up waiving the fee after I went in. But not a fun experience canceling the membership. read more

My rant.... don't even bother joining .... Worlds gym Can't cancel your membership even if you want to. Apperently after speaking with 2 different associates who gives you 4 different people to email the cancelation to and what to say in the email isn't good enough. After charging me for 2 more months and charging me a 35 sir charge both months I now find out you have to do it in person..... but get this..... there closed. So you have to print the form then call and someone will meet you at the door. Print the form .... with what. Does everyone now have a printer. Unbelieveable Worlds gym obviously doesn't care for their customers especially during covid. I followed their instructions by their staff but some how its my problem. read more

Been a member here since the beginning and I have to say the place has gone seriously downhill. Broken equipment stays that way for months with excuses given on why. There hasn't been working A.C in 2 years, bad wifi, there are no daytime classes aside from Yoga a few times a week and some evenings. There are no trainers, you NEVER see management EVER! They have removed the smoothies, is been going on a month since we had paper towels to wipe machines (waiting on order yeah right!) and it is NOTHING unusual for change rooms to be out of toilet paper, or soaps or disgusting for example the same nasty sports bra was hanging on a hook in the showers for 2 days. To be honest I am not sure if they have a cleaner anymore New owners again apparently but, same old poo...those new HD t.vs they just put up are nice tho ROFLMAO! Save the headache...find someplace better as it's not worth $20 a month anymore to risk catching a deadly bacteria on the elliptical. read more

Biggest rip off ever...it cost me over 300.00 to cancel my membership...don't join...I do not recommend this gym...very poor management...they just keep taking money from you...you need to go in person to cancel...no covid protocol..they don't read your emails...or get back to you when you are trying to cancel...none of the staff know what they are doing...worst experience I ever had...filthy gym...they are a money making scam...my membership was done 3 years ago...when covid started they started taking money from my bank account again...manager has no idea how to run a business...I wouldn't even give this place one star...this gym is ridiculous read more

I was a member at world gym Barrie for over a year. In March of 2020 I tried to cancel my membership. They requested a form be filled and emailed in (barrie.accounts@worldgym.com). As requested I filled the form and sent it in as a scan. I also paid a cancellation fee of $39.54 on March 16th as the "final" step" - or so I thought. I was then told that the email and form had been received on March 22nd ("Hi Bryson, Just saw you submitted the letter. Thank-you!" verbatim). Since this time, I have been charged monthly ($11.30) and my membership still has not been cancelled. I have sent multiple emails to Jessica (the supposed manager) and to barrie.accounts@worldgym.com. When I was a patron at World Gym Barrie, I actually enjoyed the facility and the friendly staff members. But since trying to cancel my membership, I have encountered nothing but headaches from the team at world gym. As customers, we are willing to understand that during this uncertain time, daily tasks take longer and every day can be different. That being said, waiting months at a time to be responded to, while still being charged for a membership that was supposed to be cancelled in March, leaves an unsavoury taste in the mouth at best. It's a really great gym. I work late nights until 2am and, with the exception of Sunday 2am, it's always open. The trainers are not pushy like other gyms I have been to and offer advise when ever possible. The staff is great and very approachable, ready to answer any questions you might have. The only thing keeping it from a perfect 5 is the TV set up. There are about 10 maybe 15 TVs at the front of the gym but they only show about 5 channels and at times, the same channels are next to each other. That being said, you can ask them to change it but it just says seems easier to bring your own tablet or something to watch shows on. Great gym and I'll admit it was an odd complaint that is easily fixed. Go if you are looking to get in shape and pick up a day pass. Just be sure to hold on to that receipt as you can use it towards your own membership. Big shout out to the night staff especially Carrie, she is very friendly and great to talk to. read more

I had a contract that ended in March 2020 but I haven't been since July 2019 because I injured my knee and I even moved out of Barrie a year ago, and I was fine paying until March and just sucked up the loss. March rolled around and I tried cancelling and couldn't due to the pandemic (understandable) and once they reopened I submitted another request to cancel and never heard anything, submitted another, again nothing, my mother tried for me and still nothing. I called about 3 months ago and the person on the phone told me my account had been cancelled and yet I continued getting charged. I went in last month (I live 2 hours away) and finally got my account cancelled. I have been told approximately 5 times now a manager would contact me about refunding the money as technically my money has been stolen from me at this point and still haven't heard from the manager. Do they even exist because hello this is literal fraud you would think they would contact before this has to be taken to a bank dispute or small claims or something. I highly recommend not joining unless you plan on never ending your membership. read more

Place is alright for the 24/7 operation and $10/month, but it's real easy to get sick of as it's not a very spacious gym. Which is not a good combination with the massive younger crowd using it as a social hangout to loiter on and around equipment opposed to actually working out.. There are enough gyms in Barrie nows since this gym opened up, I recommend seeking out the handful of other options around prior to signing up with World if you don't mind shelling out a bit more coin for better quality. read more
