My 16-year-old was on her own, driving our only car, when she hit a curb and popped a tire. I called Woods Service Center on a Saturday afternoon. The dispatcher talked me through my options, even offering to have the tow truck driver take my girl where she needed to go on his way to tow the car. The driver arrived at the car in minutes, made my nervous teen feel at ease, and fixed our problem. The dispatcher called me back twice to let me know all was well. Why do I drive 30 minutes clear across town to have Woods work on my cars? Because they are competent, fair and friendly. Pete has been working on Volkswagen vehicles for decades and he is probably the best VW mechanic in the valley! Once he diagnoses the problem(s) he calls and explains the problem(s) and all possible solutions and gives accurate ranges for the costs of the repair. The waiting room is nice, clean and comfortable, although parking can be a little iffy when there are many cars to be fixed. I cannot say enough good things about this auto shop. I brought my car in for something I thought would be a minor problem - my heat wasn't very warm. They got me in right away - and found that my coolant had essentially solidified. The technicians went to work as if it were their own car. Unfortunately, my radiator could not be saved, but it wasn't for lack of trying. The folks faithfully kept in touch with me - I never felt I was getting anything but honesty. When my car wasn't ready when they thought it might be, they gave me a very nice loaner at no cost. And, when I picked up my car, I was stunned that they had cut their own labor costs to make the bill as affordable as possible. I'm a single woman with very little knowledge of car innards - they treated me like family. I feel blessed to have found my way to this great business, and would recommend them to ANYONE. read more

My first experience with these guys happened today. After a very disappointing trip around town to get an oil change, I stopped by Wood's in Vinton. I had seen the name, but hadn't heard anything about them. I made the across-traffic turn and was pleased that I had made them my last ditch effort for the day. Realizing that it was late and that it wasn't the best way to get on the good side of a service tech, I walked up to the counter and asked about the oil change. The first person I spoke to explained that most of the techs had been released for the day, but went to see if he could find one. When he returned, his demeanor was that of, "here I go to break the bad news...," but returned with, "I'll do it." As a military guy who has watched so many service related industries fail from watching the clock, I was nearly in shock. I was actually on the phone, when it was said, and the other party was as surprised. Needless to say, the guy took the car to the back, handled the oil change (w/ or w/o help) and had me back on the road. Oh, did I mention that the price wasn't a $7 cup of coffee either!!! Yup, even that was consistent with what I had previously seen advertised around the area. I apologize that I can't remember the guy's name, but I am sure to have it for the YELP universe when I am back over there. **whispering, "We military guys wouldn't mind if you considered a military discount, either. After having my car die on 581 I was lucky enough to have Wood's Service Center recommended to me. After calling Woods, the tow truck arrived within 15 minutes. After having my car looked at the next day, I was thankfully informed that Nissan would cover the costs of my new transmission. I cannot express how wonderful Wood's Service Center was to work with. The customer service I received from the time I called to schedule my appointment till the time I picked my car up and paid was 5 star. The gentlemen at the front desk was incredible kind and personable, and he took great care of me. Some time in August (unknown exact date), after speaking to representatives at Woods, I took my car in for extensive repairs. My car is a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. I purchased this car in 1999 with 43 miles on it and drove it off the show room floor. I have driven this car on and off since then. Months before, I had wrecked (not at fault) my Nissan Z and it was totalled, so I took the overage on the payoff to Woods to repair my 1999 GP. I discussed the repairs for weeks with the person I was dealing with. I wanted to make sure a car of this age was solid enough to make the extensive repairs needed. I was assured many times it was, in writing and over the phone. After about a week and a half of being in the shop and $4600 later, I arrived to pick up my car. Several things were immediately wrong. One, the windshield has been cracked, to which they did replace. Another example is the lights were replaced, but pointed up. The repair person never took the time to dial them in to the road. When I arrived, the salesman told me he personally drove the car and commented on how fast it was and how well it did. So much so, he went and got another employee to drive it. I drove the car home and noticed some "pinging" and such, but was told before I took it off the lot to expect some new noises as the car settles in, as it had had a lot of work done. I live around 5 miles from Woods. The next day, while driving to the gym, 3 miles or so from my home, I noticed a loss of power. The next two miles the car began to shake and shudder and continue to lose power. Once I noticed black smoke rising, I pulled over and popped my hood to an engine fire. I immediately called woods to come and tow me. So, to recap. $4600 in extensive repairs. Have driven the car for 16 years with no major issues. Two people drove the car that were employees. 10 miles from the shop my engine catches on fire. The next day I called and asked for the owner, Tommy. Him and my family have been friends for many, many years. I had mentioned to the person I left a message with, an unknown female, that I fully wish to resolve this through them but was completely willing to get legal counsel if necessary. When Tommy returned my call, he was angry and unwilling to speak. He stated that he would wait to hear from my attorney. It simply defies logic to believe after 16 years and the only owner, only after spending $4600 on major repairs, more than the car is worth, then the engine catches on fire. I have had two mechanics to look at my vehicle. They pointed out many, many, many problems. I have photos from their direction. I am in a dilemma. I dont want to give too much info, as if this goes to court, I need to be prepared. But, I want to resolve this with Woods and get my car fixed. The mechanics are willing to testify to work being done incorrectly, or not at all. One example that I will give, the valve covers were replaced. Yet, the surrounding area was not cleaned. Its filthy. Its impossible that there is a solid seal because of the years worth of accumulation of things that get in an engine area. The pictures I have are shocking. Not to mention many screws and bolts missing from work areas, etc. As well, the mechanics pointed out many other major flaws. If this goes to court, I will ask for actual damages paid for to me to get the work done at another shop, full retail value. I will also ask for attorneys fee's, rental and personal compensation for not having a vehicle. This will well exceed the cost of repairs, as I am forced to put time and effort and hire an attorney because the owner refused to work with me on getting my car repaired. Ironically, even with recorded conversations, documented emails and pictures of shoddy work, the owner completely denies most things. Such as my reporting of the fire, which was reported when I made the call for towing minutes after my engine fire. I highly recommend seeking other options. There was a time when Wood's was a reputable business. That time has sadly passed. read more
