The parking lot was huge and surrounded by tall trees. The shade is great on hot summer days. There is a big play area in the grove of trees behind the community center. You walk through an art-filled garden to get to the door of the community center. Upon entering, there is a bronze statue of books right in front of you. Pretty cool! Off to the left is a kids area where they have Tot Time and story time for kids (there is a small charge to attend). Off to the right is a desk with a receptionist. The dance class is in a large room with mirrors on one of the walls. Our instructor is a local gentleman in his 50's. Such a wonderful teacher. Only 4 couples signed up for the class, but we have a lot of fun despite small numbers. I am anxious to take more classes at the B.C.C.!

It was made clear to me that I was unwelcome for a few key reasons: - because I wasn't Christian enough and preferred CBT based SMART Recovery for my addiction support instead of 12step. - because I asked two drop-in group leaders privately a question about why the organization still hardcore promoted criminalizing clients - political changes that turned out to make life tons more dangerous for prostitutes still caught up in the life and ended up making trafficking, extra especially underage trafficking, way worse and not even a tiny bit better (stats don't lie) - because one of the organization's main spokes-survivors started pressuring me at groups to give them contact info for past dealers so they could get drugs and I asked the organization to step in to stop the bullying at groups If you are hardcore Christian and hardcore pro-nordic model politics and all the core spokes-survivor clique members decide you fit in as one of the cool kids, this group can be really helpful. But god help you if you don't, because OPS might turn you away and deny you help, too.

Great volunteer opportunity for people of all ages…read more This warehouse is a food distribution center that is used to sort bulk food into family-sized portions. There are two large rooms where the work takes place and each can hold up to 60 volunteers (120 people total). The shifts are all 2 hours long with the first 30 minutes allowed for preparation activities like putting on hairnets and getting an introduction to the facility and the work. At that point, depending on whether the shift is full, you separate into two teams. On my most recent volunteer shift our group was working with oats. Once we were in the work room, each person chose a job. Some scooped oats into bags, others secured the bags closed with tape and put them in boxes, a few replenished oats for the teams, and a small set moved the bags of oats between the scooping table and the boxers. The 90 minutes of actual work time flew by very quickly as people got to know each other and got into a work rhythm. Upon completion of the work, we spent time cleaning the floors and tables and then took a group photo with a sign revealing how many meals we bagged. NW Harvest provides an organized, quick, and inspiring experience for volunteers and I highly recommend a visit.

There are small lockers for free in the gathering room to store your belongings. You can volunteer by yourself or plan a group volunteer event. I've been volunteering on behalf of Boeing for a while now it's always a ton of fun! There is ample free parking as well in their lot.

There were countless times when multiple volunteers (sometimes six or more) agreed that an animal needed medical attention, yet those concerns were ignored and dismissed by Diane and management. This was incredibly frustrating for those of us who spent significant time directly caring for these loving animals and witnessing their day-to-day condition, to later see them suffer and pass away.
