I had the Kevin Vander Meer "Hall of Fame" skillet...Wow! Had to loosen my belt to eat it all! Delicious skillet; served loaded up with hash browns, turkey sausage, asparagus, onions, and easy eggs topped with Hollandaise...Yumm! My wife's eggs, sausage, came with French Toast (cinnamon), and she couldn't finish it. How did we even split the delicious cinnamon roll with pecans??? Roll me out of there!!! Coffee was good albeit unremarkable to me, while my wife did enjoy the Hazelnut Coffee, both refilled often. I should start out by saying I'm not a picky eater, but the one thing I am picky about, is I like my scrambled eggs cooked a little longer than normal. So here's my review...... As we waited for a table, we noticed a server carrying food, every time she walked past her hair was 3 inches onto the plate. YUCK! We unfortunately got her for a server ( I knew as soon as I said I didn't want her, to my hubs.... That we would get her) and quickly ask to be moved. Our next server was supposedly the manager and as we told her why we moved, she reassured everything would be fine, we were in good hands. I can't believe I believed it. My hubs ordered a strawberry Belgian and I ordered uncle rons skillet, we both made it very clear to the manager, " the eggs have to be scrambled hard", well that went over like a turd in a punch bowl. We were brought our food, my hubs looked good.... Mine? UH NO! I asked, what was up with the egg.... She said you said you wanted over hard..... UH NO!!! I ate my eye toast and asked for a To go container. I'll go somewhere else and have them add the egg to the breakfast. The manager brought us the bill stating she took care of everything. HA! She took off the drinks..... Those were the two things they couldn't screw up! We paid the bill, but not without a little note on the back stating our disappointment. NEVER EVER will we be back. I'm sure these people have great food, to the ordinary person, but don't ever ask for anything the way you like it, chances are, they'll mess it up. My friends have always talked about how great this place was. Me and a couple buddies decided to go here for brunch and I enjoyed myself. I usually try to be healthy but I decided to splurge a little and get the chocolate chip pancakes, hash browns, and three sausage patties. The food took a while to come out but they were busy so it was reasonable. The lady serving us was very friendly and made us feel welcome. I ate everything I ordered and was absolutely stuffed. My FAVORITE breakfast restaurant in all the land. If it's busy, try and grab a seat at the bar for fast service. Try the skillets, hazelnut coffee, English muffin toast, and hashbrowns. Overall good. Big breakfasts but the french toast is kinda small and is not very thick and caked with powdered sugar... They could do a better job with the french toast and a big one on my part is they DO NOT SERVE PURE MAPLE SYRUP! VERY DISAPPOINTING. Having eaten @ Wolfgangs today, I'm baffled as to why so many people would line up to eat there on the weekends. Servers were brusque and unfriendly, and the ambience was that of an airplane hangar. We tend to avoid Sat/Sun mornings because they're so busy, but this is a great place to come for an early weekday breakfast. Early bird specials are inexpensive and good. Kids menu (12 and under) is a deal too. Endless cup of coffee. Oh, and good, crispy hashbrowns. read more

Not worth all the hype. Pros: We only had a 10 minute wait at 1 pm on a Sunday, which was pretty amazing. Our server didn't really show us any personality, but I'm sure she was really busy, and she was definitely friendly enough. We didn't have to wait long for our food, so kudos to the kitchen staff on your ticket times :) Nice rustic food presentation, sizable portions, and extremely well-priced. Cons: That being said, you get what you pay for. I got the Forsyth skillet and a side of whole wheat toast and my boyfriend ordered the Kevin Smith. Let me start this off by saying that I love greasy food and vegetables and everything in between. And really just food in general. However, the potatoes in my skillet were way too oily--they don't need to be drenched in oil, especially when cheese is melted on top, making it even greasier. The mushrooms seemed like they came from a can and really had no flavor. None of the vegetables seemed fresh, and I think they may have already been prepped when they were purchased. The hollandaise on the side was literally the worst hollandaise I have ever had--I don't even know how to describe it. I've made hollandaise before, tried it at a variety of restaurants and always liked it, but this sauce just had such a terrible flavor. My toast was really good bread, but I don't like how it came buttered without them telling me it would be. I like using toast to sop up my food, and it already being sopped with butter nullified its purpose for me. Also, the cheese wasn't melted all the way; there were still cold shreds of cheddar in the middle. Basically, you get what should for only paying $7.99. My boyfriend's omelette, the Kevin Smith, was pretty good. The shell was cooked all the way and still a little moist, there was a good amount of jalapenos and cream cheese, which is exactly what it said it would be. Plus, the panko was a nice touch. It wouldn't be my first choice to go back, because there are definitely better places for brunch in the area, but I wouldn't mind. It was just kind of a meh experience. I definitely wouldn't wait longer than 10 minutes if I went back, the food simply isn't worth it. I don't think it's a bad restaurant at all, I just think they could do so much better. read more

Stopped in Grand Rapids for the night and when we awoke hungry we started our Yelp search for a great brunch. And we were not disappointed when we happened upon Wolfgang's Restaurant: so believe the hype. We had about a 20 minute wait for our table which coming from Chicago isn't that bad for some tasty food. They have a texting system that lets you know when your table is ready, so we killed some time walking around the area. When we were sat we were greeted by a friendly waitress who supplied me with some tasty hazelnut coffee. For food the wife and I both got skillets. I got the Keane which is a beautiful mix between biscuits n' gravy and corned beef hash topped with some overeasy eggs. Huge portion and extra tasty. Maybe the best breakfast skillet I have ever had. The wife got the Vander Meer which is a whole mess of stuff including hashbrowns,turkey sausage, eggs, and topped with Hollandaise sauce. Both skillets were killer. So the Yelpverse once again got it right. Great place cool vibe and great food. Oh and they gave me a coffee to go when we left. Now that is service! read more

Tried Wolfgang's upon a local's recommendation while in the Grand Rapids area, and was quite impressed. When your morning starts off with your choice of the house blend or flavored (in our case, it was hazelnut) coffee, you know you are off to a good start. The menu options are pretty overwhelming, but you seemingly can't go wrong. Both dishes we ordered (The San Chez and The Keane) were equally amazing. Our server even offered us coffees to go, no charge. If you're up for it, there's even a great antique shop and stained glass studio directly across the street. Granted, it's July 4th and the wait was expected. What was expected, was the quality of food! We ordered the Cooper Skillet and the J Van Lenten French toast. For toast that came with the Cooper, it was as hard as a rock. Upon my first bite, due to it being so hard, it hurt the roof of my mouth. The skillet itself had very few potatoes and was over filled with the cheesy sauce. The French toast was way too sweet. The banana bread was overwhelming along with the sweet whipped cream.
