It's May 12, 1796, and the CT General Assembly is voting on a motion to charter a new city to be known as Farmingbury. It was a close vote, so close in fact that it ended in a tie, setting the stage for the Governor to cast the deciding vote. The Governor was named Oliver Wolcott, and he voted "aye"'.
In gratitude, the fathers of CT's newest town ditched the name Farmingbury and changed it to Wolcott.
