This station, while small of transmitter, is huge of content. I started listening, or rather streaming, while still in California; then, after moving here, I became a true fan. The ratio of interesting, good, decent music to crud is about a thousand to one. Sure, they'll have an odd clunker now and then, but considering they mine from a fifty-year seam of quality tunes they get it right way more often than not.
Right now, Saturday afternoon, here are the last six songs they played. Nothing earth-shattering, but hey. Name me ONE single station in the Western Hemisphere that has this kind of variety. You can't . You just can't. And commercial-free. No "The Rug Barn is GOING OUT OF BUSINESS!" crap.
Dire Straits: "So Far Away."
Vampire Weekend: "Horchata."
Talking Heads: "And She Was."
Pearl Jam: "Just Breathe."
The Red Hot Chile Peppers: "Under the Bridge."
Broken Bells: "The High Road."
They get not ONE dime from the school, but rather are listener-supported and underwritten. Self-sustaining, high-quality and ass-kicking good.
(Bill Hall, weekday mornings, should be streaming direct to your cranium, he's just that good. Perfect voice, soothing demeanor, and knowledgeable beyond measure. Check it out: http://913thesummit.com/)
