After my first job with Mike I was super happy with him. However, I used him again and this time I…read morewas so displeased. It was not funny. We hired Mike to remove a bar and to fix the ceiling after a leak. He charged us $150 to remove the bar. He then told us that he would charge us $300 to put the bar back in place and fix the ceiling. We had told them at that time that we would be using wall paneling to repair the ceiling. We had wall paneling on the ceiling at that time in another spot. When it came time to do the repair Mike showed up on the first day but lost his keys in his car and spent the entire day trying to get his keys out of the car rather than calling a service to do it for him. So he blew the entire day. On Wednesday I don't know what time he showed up because I had an appointment but when I got home at noon he promptly left and didn't show back up and until late afternoon and only stayed for an hour. After which he had a allowed argument with his wife over speakerphone about missing Valentine's Day dinner. He then left my house and returned late afternoon the next day after I made several calls to him trying to figure out where he was after. He stated he would be there the next morning. Very little communication. This type of behavior went on for days. When the job was complete, Mike tried to charge us over $1,600 for putting the bar back in and repairing the ceiling. I might add that the ceiling portion was 3x 20 ft Wall paneling and then he had to put the bar back in spot which was in two pieces. At this point he had severely damaged many pieces of the bar and the assembly around it. He had also left pencil marks on the ceiling which for some reason he thought was acceptable. Mike is not a licensed contractor but actually a handyman. This whole ordeal spent over a course of 4 days. Something that should probably have taken place in one day. At the end my husband and I ended up completing the job ourselves because Mike didn't show up on the final day except to pick up his tools when I told him we finished the job ourselves. For the pictures you see below, he actually wanted $848. After completing the job he then told me that his price was $125 an hour and said that he had worked over 15 hours which he can't even account for because he was so spotty in showing up and not showing up and he would come and go and take off for his wife, his children or to go shopping or to eat or who knows what or are even for other clients in the middle of working for me. To me, this now meant he was changing the original price that he had given me from $300 to something more. I do not recommend this company or this person to anyone and I've included pictures of his shoddy work. I should also mention that Mike wanted to decide what materials to use in my house and when I said no he was very upset. I had to go down and explain to him that he does not get to decide what materials are used in other people's house. I told him I was using wall panels and a specific one and he said he wanted to use a certain type of product and spray paint it. When I said no he was very upset and said that his idea was a good idea and that the people buying my house would have liked his idea. I am an interior designer and I'm very good at what I do. My house sold in one week in this very bad market. Obviously I know what I'm doing. I'm also going to include a letter that Mike sent me that was extremely rude regarding his displeasure about using the materials he wanted.

Excellent. Very responsive to messages and very professional in the work completed. Definitely…read morewill seek him out again for any future projects.

After several days and another phone call, a surly gentleman showed up to take measurements. Have never heard back at all, despite leaving a vm. My parents called again for some soffit repair. Scott showed up a couple days later, but had left his ladder in La Porte. Promised to come back in a day or two. After more than a week, my mom called again and was promised someone would come right out to take care of repair. That was early June.... Nothing since then...Very disappointed!

There were only a few tiles that needed to be cut, to fit around the outlets, but the tiles that DID need cut kept cracking a few days after they were installed. So, he would take the cracked tile off, cut a new tile, re-install the tile, notice that it had cracked AGAIN, and repeated these steps over FIVE TIMES. We sought out advice from a few friends, but none of their suggestions worked. At this point, we just wanted the backsplash to be finished already, so I reached out to Cedar Valley Handyman and told them I would literally pay them to come install these last few tiles! The Handyman that I spoke with asked questions about what type of saw/blade we were using, what kind of adhesive we were using, etc. and was able to identify that we weren't using the correct adhesive for glass. The adhesive we were using was only for ceramic tile, and the pressure was causing the glass to crack. Mind you, my husband is a handyman himself, and even with years of experience this was new knowledge to him. We went out and purchased the adhesive they recommended, installed the last few tiles and as of a month later NONE OF THE NEW TILES HAVE CRACKED!! Of course I was impressed with their knowledge, but even more so I was EXTEREMELY impressed that instead of taking me up on my offer and getting paid to finish the job, they chose to offer FREE advice. If we ever run into more issues in the future that we can't resolve on our own, Cedar Valley Handyman will be the first company I call!
