I'm not an expert in funerary services. I do not wish to become one. My family and I have always…read moreused another family business that seemed to be unavailable during our time of need recently. My close friend recommended K&K to us and after an initial meeting we decided they would fit our needs. I'm not going to re state the history of this nearly 100 year old funeral parlor, but the reader can be assured that it's interwoven with much of Mercer county's own history through all of those decades. Their own website recounts much of it for those interested. My beloved aunt died in early December of last year and had untraditional requests of what she wanted her services to be. In short, she didn't want any. We discussed amongst ourselves whether to supersede these wishes and we all were in agreement not to. This was not a typical viewing with funeral to follow. But to our relief, the funeral parlor allowed 5 of us( which was all she really wanted) to see her off so to speak. This was not easy for us. Many people who would have wanted to be there were not, as with others who felt they needed to be there. The staff at the parlor made it seem normal( whatever that is) and warm even without all the trappings of a typical service. They seemed to know what to do and say, and I suspect that would go for any families needs. The facility seems accommodating for varying amounts of people. Parking is behind the building and plentiful. I hope you or I will not need their services anytime soon, but I can certainly recommend them when that sad time comes.

When we finally found the grave after searching aimlessly since there are no markers other than on the covered graves, the grave was buried by leaves, grass and debris; completely unacceptable!! I put a work order in and told them I would be back in a few weeks and that it better be cleaned up and that this place was a disgrace. I went back today June 29, 2016 (60 days later) and found worse conditions!! I called and spoke to the secretary who then put me on the phone with some guy Rich M. (Lucky for him i wont divulge his entire name) who was useless, had no explanation, and could not have cared less about my complaint. Then I was met at the grave with the maintenance man to go over what i wanted. I told him that i would be back in a few hours and it better be cleaned up. When I went back it was cleaned, but it was definitely done half assed!! I had no choice but to yell at everyone there, but i wasn't yelling just for my family's grave, but for all the graves. There were so many around theirs in the same disgusting condition. Most people go to a cemetery for a peaceful, comforting experience not the experience I had today. I'm going again in a few weeks and they better hope it is cleaned up, but I will definitely bring my gardening tools!! I plan on putting complaints in to anyone I can. Hopefully I can get the state to step in because something or someone needs to regulate this place!!

We visited the cemetery a number of times over the last few years because we were told by family…read moremembers that my wife's father, who is buried there also owned other burial plots in Greenwood Cemetery. On our previous visits we spoke with multiple staff members who indicated that because of the time that had passed they would have to research the issue and get back to us. It appears that due to staff turn over we were not provided with the requested information. In our attempts to settle the estate of the person who would be the owner of any burial plots if there were any, we again contacted the cemetery and this time we were spoke with Andrea Harvey who was very receptive to our need to resolve this matter. After checking the files she indicated that there were no other records indicating that he owned other burial sites at the cemetery, but she would continue to research the matter. A few days passed and we received a call that she had located additional information and there was in fact additional burial sites. I don't know how often this issue occurs and it is probably easier to just say, "that's what the records say", but Andrea went the extra mile and determined that our family members were in fact correct. She should be commended for her efforts to effectively resolve our long standing questions. David L.

In any case, I've been to several funerals here and it's a great inner-city funeral home. The building has style and substance, and it just feels more personal than other homes I've been in. Most seem so sterile and bland, it feels like you're at a funeral. Here, it's still sad that you're saying goodbye, but it feels more personal. The staff is extremely accommodating and friendly. I don't know what else to say. It's been a good experience (as good as it can be considering it's a funeral) all around.
