In the past year, I came to Whitstable to stay at a family friend's cottage 5 times or so for self imposed study/writer's retreats, and so I can safely say that I have had Wing Wah at least dozen times. Take out is the only option. When you walk in you usually see what might be the owner's son doing school work. The owner or front desk worker come out and takes your order, and I'm pretty sure she then goes back to cook because I don't see her again until she comes out from behind the wall and hands me my order, leaving me alone on my couch with the kid behind the counter. All that being said I think their Duck Friend Rice is awesome. Stumbled upon it on my second order, and basically just ordered the same thing over and over again. So admittedly, I can't say much about the rest of the menu, and am just extrapolating from that single dish, which was enough to keep me coming back.
Their hours are also excellent. I think it closes at 10:30 or 11 on many weeknights, in contrast to the rest of Whitstable, which shuts down at 630 or so and becomes very, very quiet.
As a total aside, the sign at the front door reads "No dogs, except guide dogs", which I find puzzling because presumably someone who would need a guide dog wouldn't be able to read the sign in the first place. read more
