I had an appointment for an eye exam with Chad Tisdale, Optometrist. I requested that my eyes not be dilated due to the fact that I could not drive home (an hour away) safely if my eyes were dilated. I only have vision in one eye and have limited peripheral vision and depth perception. Therefore, driving is already difficult enough without dilation. Upon requesting that my eyes not be dilated, I was told that Chad was a "stickler" about dilation and I would need to be rescheduled. Mind you, I was never told that there was a "dilation requirement" when I scheduled the appointment. After speaking with a supervisor, I was told the same thing. I asked to speak with Chad. From there, things went from bad to worse. Chad walked into the exam room and asked in a rude tone; "What's the problem?" He never said "Hello" nor did he introduce himself. I explained my concerns about driving home safely and he said that I could reschedule and come back when I had someone to drive me. I explained that I had an eye doctor for over 20 years who respected my request to not be dilated due to my safety when driving. Chad replied: "Maybe he is a better doctor than me." Needless to say, the office could have requested my records from my previous eye doctor in CT, but clearly the practice doesn't care about my well being, my vision or my safety. Chad said that he had a solution. He asked me to reschedule and to come back when I had someone to drive me home. While that may have seemed like a viable option to Chad, I am a single woman, new to the area and I don't have anyone to drive me. This doesn't take away the fact that once my eyes are dilated, I won't be able to see clearly for several hours. However, my physical safety was obviously not a concern for Chad. He insisted that he had a "liability" to ensure my eye health. This is untrue. He could have documented that I refused dilation and therefore he is not liable. It's really as simple as that but his ego held sway. To say that Chad was rude and arrogant would be an understatement. His downward communication style spoke of his lack of confidence and his inability to listen to a patient's concerns. His rigidity and abhorrent bed side manner leaves a lot to be desired in a provider who is allegedly a "professional." While I knew that his education and licensure were less than an opthalmologist, I never expected his professional conduct to be so haughty. I definitely would NOT recommend Chad Tisdale or Wilmington Eye for your vision needs. You might get blindsided by an optometrist who refuses to make accommodations for individuals with a visual disability. You would be better off having your dog examine your eyes. read more

I was extremely impressed with Wilmington Eye all around. I poked myself in the eye (on brand) and needed to get in pretty quickly to see if I scratched it. I just moved to Wilmington in early July, so I hadn't established here yet. I filled out the form online and they called me within an hour to make an appointment. The scheduler was SO nice and accommodating, and she was able to get me into the Scott's Hill location the next morning. When I arrived, I was greeted by the receptionist who was very helpful. When taken back (barely had to wait 5 minutes), the staff was very friendly (and I'm a sensitive eye girlie). I saw Dr. Chad Tisdale, and he was very patient and settled my anxiety. I definitely plan to establish with this group for my annual appointments. read more

Staff were very friendly and helpful. My spouse came because he was referred by a doc for an eye issue that was messing up his vision. He was new patient and we arrived 30 min prior to our appt and he was brought back I'd say in 15 min from check in. There's a sign up front says wait times may be longer than expected due to staff shortages but they seem to run like a fine oiled machine. The lobby was not slammed full it was like 2pm and handful of people in lobby. Inside was pretty modern.. I liked how receptionist kiosk was in middle and round .. had a coastal vibe with the decor. It's a little bit of a drive for us but if the doctor figures it out we will be more than happy to make the drive read more

It is VERY difficult to reach anyone on the phone. You'll notice that you will be immediately connected to a recording that always says they are experiencing high call volume. I have waited days to receive a call back. Even today, I called this morning to check on contact lenses. After calling twice this morning and my message going directly to voicemail, I finally left a message. It's been several hours and I do not trust them to call me back. So, I called a third time and finally reached someone. It was a call that took 20 seconds to verify an issue. When you go there for an eye exam, you will be herded like cattle through various rooms. There are so many employees and customers; it's unbelievable. I intend to go back to a smaller optometrist and recommend you do the same. read more

This is the worst practice I have ever been to. The customer service is terrible and they have screwed over 3 of the 4 members of my family the last 3 months. The worst thing they have done concerns my son. We took him there to get glasses in April and scheduled a follow up appointment in late June. I reached out to them in between appointments bc he was complaining that his vision was worse but they wouldn't see him until a month and a half later at his already set June appointment (you know becuase they are sooo busy--it says so anytime you call their automated phone line). The vision was worse bc he sustained a retinal detachment and a hole in the retina shortly after getting his glasses and had been going around like that for a month a half. They referred him to a retina specialist locally and they referred us to Duke for surgery. Wilmington Eye denied any fault in not getting him in sooner and hasn't even followed up to see how my son is doing. I will never walk through the doors of any their locations again and will be sure to tell my co-workers (who all have amazing insurance as well) and friends about my numerous negative experiences. The principals of this practice need to take a long hard look at the service they provide and its numerous deficiencies. read more

They are amazing. The women at the front desk saw that my son was having a tantrum and did not want to stay inside so they told us that we could walk around outside if we wanted and they would find us when they were ready for him. They're always super gentle with my son and quickly, but thoroughly, get through his appointments. They also have him smiling through his whole appointment. Love it there! read more

If you are in need of cataract surgery or a consult look no further!!! Dr. Leone and her staff are fantastic!!! Along with the Atlantic Surgicenter the staff made my surgery go so smoothly and put me at ease from the very start! The care and the results are exactly what you would expect and then some!!!
