This courthouse is the third to serve the county. It was built in 1858 and is in the Greek Revival style with four Doric columns in the front. It is here in Franklin, the county seat. When it was created by the legislature in 1799, it was split from adjacent Davidson County. The county was named after Hugh Williamson, a North Carolina politician who signed the U.S. Constitution. There are several "context" markers in the Franklin Public Square in front of the courthouse. "The Battle of Franklin - Bloody Turning Point" and "Reconstruction - from Slavery to Freedom" plus "March to Freedom" which is a statue depicting an African American soldier from the US Colored Troops that was unveiled in 2021. Late on a Sunday evening, the courthouse was locked and secured. I was unable to go inside but the outside is worth checking out. There is parking on the square and main streets.
