I learned from the tour guide on the hop on hop off bus this was the only classified Victorian Era garden in North America. The smells throughout the gardens were intoxicating. There were so many variations of beautiful flowers. There were several water fountains with ornate statues, and an adorable bridge. The garden also had a pond with a small replica of the Titanic in the water. The park was free and there was a coffee shop with pastries near the front entrance. The gates were closed but there was a door on the side where you can enter.

And I'm so glad we took the detour because we discovered this most awesome shop. I've listed it under art galleries, because it is filled with art. Art by local artisans in particular. From fabric and paper, to glass and pottery, each piece is a masterpiece. And if that doesn't get to you, they also carry scented candles and my favorite Tangled Garden herbed jellies. Sometimes you'll find fused glass serving platters and dishes that will brighten any home. Even if you don't use them and only place them in front of a window, you will instantly smile when you glance their way. By the way, I also fell in love with handmade purses and jewellery, and I can't wait for our next trip along the Lighthouse Route to get another fix.

The Maritime Museum of the…read moreAtlantic in Halifax has an extensive collection covering the city's maritime history, with giant, detailed models of famous ships and shipwrecks, plus real artifacts recovered from wrecks like coins and Spanish reales. The second floor is the highlight. They have one of the largest collections of authentic Titanic artifacts anywhere, including the only known cabinet to survive the sinking. Seeing actual pieces from the ship up close is something you won't forget. Tip: if you're visiting with a large group, head to the second floor first for the Titanic artifacts and save the first floor for after. It gets crowded up there, so beating the rush makes a big difference. If you're in Halifax, don't skip this one. Highly recommend, especially at this price point.

It's Canada's oldest and largest maritime museum located on the beautiful waterfront of Halifax! They have many exhibits and artifacts including the largest collection of items and stories about the Titanic rescue, shipbuilding, the 1917 Halifax explosion and various Navy memorabilia. I really enjoyed that they included history of the indigenous mi'kmaw! Also notable was that they have a boat school and a real more representative that will signal your name and provide you a certificate! Fun day of seeing, learning and having fun at this museum!

The Short Version: Museum about the history of Pier21 and…read moreabout immigration in Canada. On site is the Family History Centre, where staff can help visitors find information on family immigration timelines. The Long Version: I've visited this museum twice now. Once two decades ago and again most recently. Admission at my recent visit was $19 per adult. The museum has two sections. One that is specific to Pier 21, which is where most immigrants to Canada arrived at between 1928-1971. The other section is about immigration to Canada in general. The Pier 21 section has lots of artifacts, as well as a miniature model of what the pier used to look like. It also has personal stories of people who came to Canada through Pier 21. The general immigration to Canada section has less artifacts but more stories and highlights important timelines. The museum originally opened in 1999 and was run by a non-profit organization (Pier 21 Society), but since 2011 it has been run by the Federal Government and became a national museum. My first visit was when it was run by the Pier 21 Society. Admission was free, but the exhibit was smaller. I only recall the Pier 21 section existing and not the immigration to Canada in general (not necessarily through Pier 21) section. But it was 20 years ago, so I don't remember exactly. My most recent visit was in 2026 so after the Federal government took stewardship of the museum. There are more videos and historical narratives at the museum. It also has more of the look and feel of Canadian national museums (if you've been to a few, you'll know what I mean). There are guided tours in both English and French, but you're also welcomed to walk around at your own pace. There are also videos to watch, some of which are in a mini theatre. At the museum there is also a Family History Centre. You don't need to pay the museum admission to access this centre. If you have relatives who arrived in Canada through Pier 21, staff there can help you obtain more information. My husband was able to obtain information on the ship that his grandfather was on and he was also able to obtain a photocopy of the page of the official ledger with names of all those entering Canada with his grandfather's name on it (the printouts cost $20). Note that at the time of this review only records before 1935 are available to the public. Records post-1935 must be requested from Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada for privacy reasons. I think there's a 90 year rule that only records over 90 years old are available to the public. Staff were pleasant and helpful. There's a little cafe on-site. I got a bottle of water there. It was $3. Overall a great museum with lots of interesting and thought provoking content. Review #134 (2026)

The key ones were the lobster, dory and the Bluenose. Bringing coins if you want to park on the street. 2CD per hour. We stayed about two hours because the docents were so interesting to talk to. The main parking lot was 4 CD per hour and it was full at 3 o'clock on a Friday in October. Overall nice museum with excelente help, even the front desk people made us feel welcome beyond normal.

We made a day of visiting Lunenburg and got to see the Blue Nose. Unfortunately, end of October means the tourism season is over and 50% of the town was shut down and the museum talks, guided tours, and extras were not operational. The Blue Nose was outside and being prepared for winter and was no longer accessible to museum patrons. The upside? I think admission was only $5 as it was off season. Inside, you'll find a small aquarium, artifacts of Atlantic fishing life, and stories galore from rum running prohibition to sea monsters. There's a small movie theatre that has an ongoing rotating display of documentary style films. There are three floors here plus the outside where the Bluenose replica is. Fear not, however, there are elevators if your party requires. All in all, I'd like to come back but when it's tourism season and the displays and tours are active.
