When The Royals opened up you had 3 floors of shops, and places to eat, now all that is left is a small cafe area in the centre of the ground floor and a couple of shops. The shops that are there though are popular, and contain a good selection of merchandise, everything from clothing to entertainment, (GAME have also opened up a small store over the Christmas period, which I'm hoping will stay there). The space between the shops is very wide, so it's always easy to walk around, and you won't be knocking into people accidently. There is also a strong security presence, though the security usually only seems to be monitoring the front entrance, which is a bit concerning.

I thought I will give it a go since the display windows indicating that there are many utensil items are on sale! Pleasantly surprise with the store inside. Quite a lot of cooking, food serving, and decorating items. I enjoy cooking, this definitely will be the place where I will look for things I need for my kitchen! I am glad and pleased that non of the staffs followed me while I was taking my time browsing around the store. (Hate it when someone is "keep an eye" on you while you do the shopping!). But from my observation, staffs are friendly and keen to help if you are specifically looking for something. Lot of decorating items some grannies might like, but maybe not for the younger generation! But good place to shop for house warming gifts I reckon!

Argos is still there and Wilkinsons which has been extended, and there is a big New Look. It looks like there will be more shops to follow as there were big 'Next' signs on one of the empty shops. I'm sure that people will start going there once the shops come, especially now as it is under cover. Apparently parking is free on Sundays so that is something to consider when wondering where to park in Southend!

This is not just a review, this is an M&S review.sorry, I couldn't resist…read more M&S is a very large shop on 2 floors, mostly catering to women's clothing, but also stocking men and children's clothing too. The ground floor is pretty much all overpriced food, (the same stuff you can get in Tesco for like half the price, because it's not just food, it's M&S food, as if that's some sort of special food). The food however is very clearly labelled, and well planned out, though some of the aisles are a bit close to each other, but not overly close that you can't get around. The top floor caters for clothing, which in contrast to the food isn't that bad priced, (especially underwear), though of course the fashion items are very costly. Also featured is a cafe area where you can rest to eat and drink, and the food is pretty nice, if a bit on the expensive side. The staff are friendly and helpful, and will help you any way they can. The shop also features a large lift for disabled access, though it is a bit out of the way, at the far end of the store.

The food area is now laid out better and it is easier to find what you want. There are also tills fro those with only a basket to speed up service, although it is still sometimes a little slow. There is a lift and escalator up to the first floor which has women's underwear and accessories, men's clothing and a small eange of children's clothing. It also has a larger cafe and customer services. The cafe is often very full but has good wheelchair / buggy access. The tables are very close to each other but it is usually possible to find a space.
