I popped in to WildMex with my 2 kids (11 & 13) to see if there was any chance they could get a surf lesson at La Lancha. Front desk staff was impressively friendly, explained how it all works, and somehow managed to immediately get them a private instructor even though they appeared super busy. Sunshirts/rashguards were available to borrow but I'm glad kids had their own. Paschalis (Pascal) their teacher was AMAZING! Absolutely overflowing with enthusiasm and encouragement. He chose the right waves and got the kids going on them, so all they really had to do was pop up. Beach was busy with instructors and beginners, but Pascal was completely focused on my kiddos. They had a blast and I had even more fun watching the smiles! Lesson was 2 hours, with about 1.5hr in the water. The beach is beginner friendly. Lesson includes the surfboard. There's also a photographer at the beach and I'd definitely recommend budgeting to buy the photos. For 2 kids, with their own teacher, the lesson was $85/ea and pics were $55 for 1st kid and $15 for 2nd we got 36 fabulous photos. My daughter had a wonderful last 2 days doing 1on1 instruction with 'Quinty' at Wildmex La Lancha. She had an absolute blast learning and spending time with Quinty while catching waves! Quinty even gave her a little education on her home country of the Netherlands. What a great experience to surf in Mexico while learning a little Dutch culture. She's a high energy instructor with an even higher surf IQ so please don't hesitate to book a lesson with her if you want to make the most of your La Lancha surf sessions. She's also very protective and observant while instructing, ensuring the safest learning environment for your friends and loved ones. Great people, great business !!! Booked my trip at the Sayulita location. Walking down the trail was cool too, and a little slick in some spots. Saw these really colorful crabs that would come up from the ground, then it opens up to the beach, and man is that beach beautiful. Go with WildMex you won't be disappointed. read more

Loved it! Only downside is it's kind of in the middle of nowhere so had to Uber there. Walked across a trail to get to a beautiful beach. Had a great lesson with Ramon. This is by FAR the best surf lesson I've ever had. Al was my main instructor (1000% would recommend). He taught me so incredibly much about the logistics and technicalities of surfing and now I feel so much more comfortable in the water. A big part of our trip was to go surfing! My friend knew about this place already and highly recommended since it was near the beach we wanted to ride waves. The staff was super helpful and accommodating - kind and hassle free too. We were able to rent out two 8 footer foam boards for the day for around $40 USD. This shop had plenty of different boards to chose from including boogie boards and they offer lessons. They supplied rash guards too which was super nice, and there's an outdoor shower. We hit the beach for a handful of hours and had a blast. The water was warm and the sets were in our favor. They even had a guy down on the beach taking photos of everyone surfing! Once you return the boards, you rinse them off outside and check back in. Easy! read more

Hands down, one of the friendliest, most helpful tour companies we've worked with. Luis was our guide, if you want a breathtaking hike, he is your guy. We hiked Monkey Mountain and got some exercise with our views. Luis knows lots of history & geography of the area, knows the best place for a cold beer when you're done, and was exactly what we needed for this hike, where we had genuine adventure lovers and vertigo all in the same group. These guys offer a fantastic single track MTB experience. Hugo was my tour guide today and he was amazing. He constantly made sure I was good. He offered to speed up or slow so down, and when I said, "Rapido" that he did! It was great following him down the trail, he knew it well. He was a bit to fast for me... I found myself riding over my head... we then slowed down a bit. The ride was more that I was expecting. I expected to be riding some Jeep track as some of the reviews mentioned on other tours.... this was all single track once we got in the jungle. There are a lot of different companies to choose from when looking for surfing lessons in Sayulita. One company we read about on our travel book and internet was Wildmex. While perhaps more well known and reputable, they are not the only good company out there. My husband actually took a lesson with a different, less well-known company the day prior to our lesson with Wildmex and he really enjoyed it. It was also much less expensive than the lesson with Wildmex. The benefit of Wildmex is they provide lessons in two different locations (Sayulita and Punta de Mita) and they provide transportation between the two at no extra cost. Otherwise in terms of quality of boards and instructor expertise, I don't think there's much difference. read more

DO NOT TRUST OR BOOK WITH THIS SURF SHOP! Had a lesson for my 4 kids, booked a week in advance for a surf lesson tomorrow April 18, 2021. We traveled here from California and the kids were looking forward to taking there 1st surf lesson in the warm waters of Punta Mita. The invoice clearly stated that we had to pay it by today April 17th in order to reserve the time slot for tomorrow April 18th at 11:30. We are staying in Puerto Vallarta and had to book transportation to Punta Mita and pay in advance, this was an additional $350 round trip for our group of 8 people. I called the surf shop today April 17th to confirm the lesson and pay the invoice. They said the time slot is no longer available and they can't accommodate us. They said the invoice had to be paid by the 16th. That's not the conversation we had and clearly as you can see on the attached photo, that is not what the invoice said. This is my first time ever posting on any review on YELP, but I wouldn't recommend doing business with this surf company. read more

I had high hopes for this surf trip. I wish I could have given more stars but there were some glaring shortcomings. Let's start with the positives though. Pretty nice people and a good level of professional instruction. They really wanted you to have a good time and we're concerned about your safety. Here are the cons: they said they provided rash guards but didn't have many of them. They said they provided booties but again not many and only a few matching pairs. Don't advertise what you don't have guys! The absolute worst part of the surf adventure was the trek through the jungle to the surf break. It is not 10 minutes each way... more like 20 minutes..and it's a muddy, treacherous slippery, mosquito infested swampy hike through hell. They don't tell you enough about the perils. I got bit to shit and had many stickers in my feet. Here is what you will need to get through it: sneakers or hiking boots ( not flip flops and not worthless surf booties); bug repellant; long pants and long sleeves; a proper hat, a walking stick, WATER ( they don't provide any for you) and a good attitude. Are you hungover? Forget it. Tired? Don't attempt it. Balance/ instability issues? Scrap it. It's not worth it. My best advice would be take a boat that drops you into the la lancha break area. On that boat will be some nice cold waters or beer, snacks, shade and a place to rest. It's obvious that this trail is used often but there is no incentive to make it safe or easier. read more

I am a frequent customer and couldn't be more happy if I chose another school. I stayed in Sayulita and though I love swimming at the beach and the people in town are super friendly, I prefer surfing on another break since there is always a lot of people in the main beach and break. Wildmex offers a complimentary ride from their Sayulita shop to their other surf shop in Punta de Mita, a town away from Sayulita for about 30 minutes, and they are the only ones with a shop set up right in front of the entrance of one of the best breaks in the area, so you have a place to rest after your surf sesh, shower.. I always take a nap in the hammocks there after lunch at the restaurant there too, and then, of course, go surfing again. The Instructors are super friendly and always nice to see them whenever I come back... I also took a mountain bike tour with them one time and omg it was incredible!!! (worst part was going uphill but downhill... Maaaaan, you gotta do it!!!!) thank you wildmex team!!! read more
