I especially liked the textile exhibit collected by Hedvig Ulfsparres and the exhibit of items sailors brought back home on their travels which I believe was part of the "19th century in Gavleborg".. Also a beautiful collection of 17th to modern art to be enjoyed here. We traveled around Sweden a few months ago and yes, it's hard to compare to Stockholm's museums, but this museum is definitely a wonderful place to spend 2 or 3 hours if you are in Galve!

Gävlebocken is a 40ft high Christmas goat made out of hay…read more It's built every year at the beginning of Advent, and it's nearly always destroyed in bizarre ways. Like, 10 years ago, when someone shot it from a nearby roof with fire arrows. You might need to jay-walk if you want a better look, but even then, don't expect to get too close. There's also another smaller goat that's built by a local high school, closer to the river. Check it out if you're in town, and if it's still standing!
