Cute little pub located a bit off the main drag of Hampstead village closer to the Heath with good…read more(if a bit pricey) food and decent beer. My wife and I came here for a quick dinner out while staying in Hampstead and then decided to come back again a second time because it was just a great experience overall. First, We sat out outside on the patio, which was fantastic because of the weather and it's on a quieter street with large trees around. Second, we each had a nice pint. I've long ago stopped hoping for British pubs to actually have a particularly good selection of craft beer, but this was well above average with a few decently hoppy (and one hazy) IPA on tap. I won't be coming back for the beer, but it's definitely drinkable. The food stood out more. This is well-above normal pub grub and might actually be worth seeking the place out for the food alone. I had sweet potato dumplings with lentils which were deliciously differently textured with crispy outsides of the dumplings giving way to creamy insides over slightly firm lentils. My wife got the lamb with tzatziki and when it came out with tzatziki substituted for another sauce, they actually made her a small side of tzatziki since she was excited about it. We wrapped up with chocolate basque cheesecake with cherries that was maybe the best thing of the night. The cheesecake was good, but the tart cherries balanced things out and made the meal.

Very nice pub - we felt very welcoming…read more The food is good but its on the pricey side. Mussel in cream sauce £18 - it is very good but it is sold out very quickly so get your hands on it if you are thinking about ordering it. The mussels are fat and the quantity is just about right. I'd add more salt but everything is perfect. They even give you lemon water to wash away the fishy smell on your fingers. Chicken schnitzel £24 - large portion with plenty of capers. Personally not a big fan of capers but I quite like it with the anchovies they put on top. Very warm inside of the restaurant even on a freezing day! We had a good time!

This is the best boozer in the neighbourhood for sure, and it's all thanks to Steve (the owner) and…read morehis awesome staff. Prices are reasonable, the vibe is unbeatable, the garden is gorgeous and the food is great. You should absolutely stop by for Saturday barbecue if you have the chance. They have a cheap happy hour during weekdays, pub quiz one day, etc. It's honestly the best place to hang out with friends and soak up the sun on a nice day, and it doesn't hurt that the food is excellent. Highly recommend if you're in the area. This is a wonderful local pub.

The Steele's is such a fabulous pub - all that I had dreamed London pubs would be, and, finally, I…read morefound it. So old-school, so quirky, so damn cool it almost pains me. It's a big pub, with lots of seating, and some cute little dark corners around the other side of the bar, great for a date! Huge beer garden which is great for Summer-afternoon drinks (it's coming, Summer, it's coming!). Oh and another large area upstairs that holds regular comedy/music/gig nights. Check the blackboard out the front for details. The staff are so rock and cute that it's hard not to fall in love at least once (or twice) during a visit, that is, if you haven't already fallen in love with another punter.... The pubs serves Thai Food which is fabulously tasty - restaurant quality - and all meals less than a tenner.

I remember going to the bar at the Crazy Bear restaurant that was a sunken bar...you kinda sit on…read morethe bar stools and the bar is below you! But I don't think I've ever been to a venue where there is a sunken stage, until this place. I love this venue! I mainly come here to watch The Smyths gigs where they play here twice a year, a summer and then a Christmas show. It's run by a really friendly, down to earth guy who loves his music and most nights they have a band playing, open mic or a comedy night on. Because of the layout of the stage you can pretty much get a good view from wherever you are, depending on how close to the action you want to get - down low on the stage level or upstairs on either of those two levels. There's some decent beer on draft and prices are reasonable too. The DJ that plays after The Smyths gigs who DJs here frequently plays all of my favourites....lots of 80s Indie, Britpop, New Wave, 60s etc but the only thing that slightly puts me off is because its open until 4am on the nights that we go you can get an odd group of clientele walking through the door after about 1am. Basically people falling through the door that are already smashed, they don't care where they are and they want to drink tequila through the eyeballs until they puke it out of their noses. They can be a little annoying falling all over the place but thankfully they are few and far between, apart from that this venue is pretty perfect for me.

The Good Ship is about 2 minutes walk from the critically acclaimed music venue, The Luminaire, so…read morethis little place has a lot to live up to. The bar itself is pretty bog standard and the actual music / comedy venue is basically a little space within that bar, all on the one floor. It's an odd layout. The stage is lower than the ground level and therefore gives a "gallery" feel to the live events as people can huddle around and watch from above. I have not seen any comedy at this venue before but I have seen a few bands here. I'm not sure I like the way it's designed and the sound doesn't carry very well. It almost seems like what could be a totally perfect, awesome little pub is simply just trying to hard to be something it's not. If you are just wanting a quiet drink, you simply cannot do that because as soon as a band hits the stage, all are forced to listen and there's no getting away from the live music. Having said all this, the saving grace here is that The Good Ship's owner, John, is super friendly and accommodating and the rest of the bar staff follow suit. It's not the best place in the world to hang out and see a band but it wins extra brownie points for it's casual and relaxed vibe.
