Slow service. So slow that I couldn't find the server to pay my bill. And no one else in the entire place could take my credit card. And the food is awful. They also added twice the amount of my tip to the bill (I originally left 20%), but I would have been late for my flight if I tried to reconcile it. So they got a grand tip for nothing. So this was my penance for not checking Yelp before rolling into a place for a quick bite on a three hour layover at Midway. Most times, I tend to do well with baseball or sports theme bar/grill type place. Today, however, left me sorely disappointed. Overall, the place is average appearing when it comes to small airport restaurants. The real sports memorabilia is a plus, but the place feels a little tight, especially with everyone throwing around all of their luggage. My server, Ebony, was the highlight of the visit. She had a great smile, and gave me a lot of attention, almost motherly. I wasn't interested in breakfast and lunch service was an hour away. No matter, she made me feel perfectly welcome anyway as I hogged a table for me and the computer and wasted an hour until the lunch menu was ready. She is the sole reason for the "extra" star in this review. The cocktail menu has minimal selections and no prices. Take note! I ordered a Bloody Mary that promised it was made with Absolut, but I have my doubts. It wasn't the worst Bloody Mary I have ever had, but it wasn't far from it. At $16.25 (in a pint glass), however, dollar-for-dollar it was the worst Bloody Mary I have ever had. I left about $8 of it in the glass. The Flat Bread looks great on paper. Prosciutto and Shrimp with Buffalo cheese. I'm, in! Sucker. The Flatbread came out in four slices and was much smaller than most appetizers I've had recently. Not $14.99 worth! Lightly drizzled on the surface was, not the dressing, but shards of what we will loosely call prosciutto and a few scattered bite-sized shrimp. The Buffalo cheese reminded me not of the famed buffalo spicy cheesy, but more of the Buffalo Bills offense in the recent playoff game- non-existent. A scatter of fancy greens on top to make it look "gourmet" and I essentially had 4 chewy pieces of bread with with toppings which would have barely covered a Ritz cracker- and probably would have tasted better! Did I send it back? Nope. Ebony was so nice, and I had blocked a table for over an hour in her station already. I wasn't going to be "that guy." Sucker. Stay away. Trust me. read more

TLDR: only go here if you have tons of time to waste. Had about a 3 hour layover at Chicago Midway so decided I'd do sit down instead of food court for lunch. Got seated right away (although the place was packed), took the waitress a little bit to get to me as I'm guessing she's overwhelmed with tables. I placed my drink and food order at the same time and she came back with my tea right away. I should've taken the hint when the couple at the table next to me asked for his food to go after they had been waiting. He got his food and left while the woman was waiting and waiting at the table for her food (20mins while I've been here) and eventually asked for it to go. I finally got my food after about 35 mins. I had the Large Italian Beef with Au Jus on the side and homemade chips. My plate came with no au jus - which you absolutely need as the beef and bread are very dry. I smacked on the chips while I waited for the waitress to come back. She finally brought the au jus and it tremendously improved the plate. Unfortunately my waitress never came back to refill my drink or check on me and a different waitress dropped off my check. Lesson learned - next time just get the food court food, at least they're quick! read more

The experience started bad and got much worse from there. The hostess was in a conversation with who appeared to be managers of the facility. My presence looking for a table seemed to annoy her. After I sat down it took awhile to get a server to take my order. I ordered three things, a Stella to drink, bleu cheese chips and an Italian beef. The drink was draft, came ok. The Chips were a pleasant surprise. The had buffalo sauce and a sweet bacon crumble. The Italian beef was a different problem. It took a long time to get the drink and chips. For some unknown reason someone in the back decided to rush my beef sandwich it arrived shortly after I received my chips even though it was ordered several minutes after I ordered the chips. In addition to arriving early it was prepared wrong. They offer sweet peppers, gardinera, and pepperoncini. I asked for gardinera and sweet peppers. Got neither. Couldn't find a server, had to ask the hostess, who brought gardinera and pepperoncini, stated she didn't know the difference. All in all a less than stellar experience. Maybe they knew I was a Cub Fan. I will and you should avoid this establishment. Should add I did finally get sweet peppers as you see in the photos below. read more

I gave the waitress a Southwest food voucher. She "accidentally" ran my credit card for the full amount, without using the voucher. After I complained, the manager attempted to refund the initial transaction, and charged the card again for the new amount with the voucher. Its been two weeks, and I have NOT REIMBURSED FOR THE ORIGINAL TRANSACTION. In summary, i spent almost $50 on a bad burger and a beer. read more

I ordered a "half pound" angus burger with bacon that was really dried out even though I had asked for medium rare. My wife ordered a traditional Chicago Italian beef that had a tiny amount of beef. Service was efficient if somewhat impersonal. The staff seems tired. They have a wide variety of mediocre beers. You'd think with this many taps they could come up with something other than IPAs and InBev products (I don't call those beer). My burger was ready a few minutes after I ordered it, which was scary. Normally I don't complain about quick service but this was quick even for McDonalds. I ordered it cooked medium and it came out medium rare. The bigger problem is that it was clearly prepackaged - perfectly round. Frozen patties they get in bulk? Who knows? But I guarantee that burger wasn't made to order. It was OK - not much flavor, just kinda there. The fries were almost certainly frozen. They're good for making it easier to pick up ketchup but not much else. When I walked I was not greeted for at lease five minutes. There were dirty dishes everywhere. When I sat at the bar my spot was never cleaned. My order was wrong but they did correct that. Everywhere I looked there was some sort of trash laying around. I was there for about and hour and a half and not once did the bartender wash his hands. He handled dirty dishes, trash, and other disgusting stuff and not once did he wash before handing me silverware. When I got a refill on my drink he covered the entire nozzle with my drink. Gross. Low grade dog food cooked slowly and served poorly. My dog would have walked out and preferred to drink out of the toilet. One star plus one star because I didn't actually see any bugs or rodents. Edit: well it's now been 30 minutes and we still cannot get someone to give us our check so we can leave. Keep in mind this is an AIRPORT location. Presumably patrons have someplace to go. I miss Harry Caray's. This place has a much, much smaller menu, plus the prices are higher for lower quality food. I sat at the bar and paid way too much for a plate of very average buffalo wings and a Goose Island pale ale--even by airport standards. What really ticked me off is that the bartender couldn't be bothered to wipe down the counter as I sat down. When I was finished dining she gave me a to-go glass of water and asked if I wanted a lid. I said, "yes, please" and she motioned to the stack of lids at the end of the bar. :/ In general, it seems the dining options at Midway are severely limited and keep getting worse each time I visit. I need to remember to bypass them and bring my own snacks in the future. So disappointing for such a great food city. read more

Was a little skeptical when I saw lemon Ricotta Pancakes on the menu but asked the waitress and she said they were good (and if I didn't absolutely like them, she'd take them back). So... I really sort of hated this restaurant the first time I was here, just a few days after they had opened. I had been coming to Harry Caray's for quite some time, and it didn't compare. At all. I've not been in Chicago since then until yesterday, and grudgingly came back to see if things had improved here. They have. A LOT! First, the menu has changed completely. Gone are the so-so offerings I tried here and disliked so much last time. There were several appetizing choices this time, and the beer and wine menu has improved too. I chose a burger this time. They have a 1/2lb and a 1/4lb. The 1/4lb, served with house made chips was right up my alley. I also added cheese and bacon. It was tasty! It was cooked properly (no pink in my ground beef, please), but still flavorful, and the brioche bun was fresh. Service was friendly and efficient. 3.5 stars here, overall, and a vast improvement over when they first opened. The issues that could still be worked on: friendlier hostessing. The hostess yesterday was pretty sour, to me, and all the other guests I saw as I was waiting for my table. Also, the wait itself. The restaurant wasn't even close to full, with empty tables about every second or third in their rows, yet they still were taking names and seating at 5-10 minute intervals. It's a busy airport. Hire a couple additional servers and kitchen staff, and fill your tables, or take them out. Putting everyone on a wait with a 1/2 empty restaurant is frustrating to travelers. I'll be back probably, on my next trip through in a few months. read more

I had the burger. It came with precooked packaged bacon and was a a frozen party, cooked of course. The sweet potato fries were cold and under cooked. The guy next to me had a chicken sandwich, took 2 bites and bailed after paying his tab. He told the server it was the worst sandwich he'd ever had. The server stated he would tell the kitchen. Then, just after the customer left, another guy asks "what's good?" The server says the chicken sandwich, are you friggin kidding me. I will NEVER be back. Used to eat at Harry's regularly. First, I should state that food service at Midway this particular night and time was sub-optimal. Lots of places already closed or down due to operational issues. Get your act together, Midway. That said, White Sox Grill was the best option within my general layover area. Grabbed a beer (decent draft selection) and ordered a Cubano. It was their spin with soprassata instead of ham. Sandwich was okay: pork was good, soprassata got lost, and the pickles were excellent. GREAT fries (menu had me expecting chips). Decent service, especially close to closing time. Could this place be any worse? They took out "Harry Carey's" which had reasonable quality food with a broad menu selection and professional service and replaced it with this joke of a 'restaurant'. I've been here twice in the past two weeks and waited to post review wanting to give the place a couple of looks. It's almost as if they want it to be intentionally terrible. It has 4-6 late 90's Panasonic LOW-Def TV's, absolutely no White Sox memorabilia or pictures. What "brand value" is this dump adding to the White Sox? In this visit, I was offered a menu but no beverage when I sat down. When I ordered the omelette and asked for jalapeños to be added I was informed "you can take things out but you can't add anything to what's on the menu". But after more questioning it was determined I could get jalapeños on the side. I asked "how is it that I'm able to ask for something NOT to be included in my omelette but I can't add anything" - answer "that's just the way it is Sir". The omelette was ok but the "tater tot hash" looked like 'Tots-thru-a-blender' and they were cold. My single slice of toast MIGHT have bumped up against a pat of butter on the way out of the kitchen...& it was cold too. Server never checked in to ask how meal was because she was busy explaining to the guy next to me how "this isn't Harry Carey's anymore" and why there are no substations on the menu and, yes, there is no fruit available for breakfast anymore either. If the City Fathers thought they were doing us travelers a favor by eliminating Harry Carey's (and McDonalds and Potbelly's) from Midway...they were wrong again! read more

Had about an hour to eat and the line wasn't long, so gave it a shot. I ordered the Thai lettuce wraps as an appetizer, chicken avocado sandwich w/ fruit, and a slice of cheesecake. 1. Thai Lettuce Wraps: Horrible, it was basically the same type of sliced chicken breast you find find on a salad. No flavor. Came with three wraps and dipping sauces. I only ate one wrap and left the other two. 2. Chicken Avocado Sandwich: Not bad, but nothing to write home about. Decent amount of avocado. 3. Cheesecake: Really bad. The gram cracker crust was soggy and seemed undercooked. No berries or anything, just plain. Ate half of it. We just ate at the White Sox Grill in " A " Terminal at Midway Airport.  I have to say this was probably one of the worst airport dining experiences I have ever had.   We were seated quickly and the server acknowledged us then ignored us for over 7 minutes.  We moved to another section and the server appeared more responsive.   After trying to figure out what we wanted from the limited breakfast menu with unusual breakfast combinations our server took our order but said they were out of orange juice (this was breakfast).  When our meal came (this also took a while) it was apparent that my sandwich had been microwaved and the bread was soggy and rubbery.  The "tater tot hash" was probably the most disgusting thing I have ever tried. We had bacon that was so paper thin you could almost read through it. The server walked by our table several times and never checked on us or refilled our coffee.  The restaurant was not busy and it was apparent there were more than enough employees milling about talking to each other and ignoring the patrons of this establishment. This was formerly a Harry Carey's with a normal breakfast menu, responsive servers and super fast service. read more

Horrible service! Hostess tried to seat us in the back corner of the restaurant sandwiched between two occupied tables when me and my wife had all of our bags, when we walked past literally dozens of open tables. After that, no waiter served us for 9 minutes. While waiting, they seated a table right next to us, got them waters, put napkins down at another table, circled back to the table they got waters for and started taking their order. We were sitting right next to them! It's like we were invisible. Me and my wife actually left before we got any food. The host who sat us 9 minutes earlier watched us walk by and didn't notice that we had clearly not ordered and walked out, and didn't care enough to ask why we left. read more

Wow- after reading previous reviews - we were pretty terrified to enjoy our usual send off meal from the Prior Harry Carays- however the bugs must have been fixed...Hubs and I had a great experience- he ordered the Pub Burger and and it was cooked exactly as he ordered: Medium Rare. I ordered the appetizer Chorizo and Shrimp Quesadilla as my entree. It was served with a fresh sliced avocado and was beautiful presented and spicy! Delicious ! Our attentive and very pleasant waitress Tamra offered and efficiently refilled my water as she noticed my empty glass. Bartender has a very light hand when it comes to cocktails. I asked for a DOUBLE shot of gin, and it came to me just barely tasting like a SINGLE. When it came time to pay our tab, our waitress took my card, stuck it in her handheld card-reading device, and asked me how much tip I was willing to give. The better approach would have been to give me the card reader for me to enter the tip myself. Needless to say, it was an awkward situation. Food was decent though. Upon arrival, no one was at the front, which is wrong since we are all waiting for flights and are on a tight schedule. As we were seated, our waiter Miguel was prompt to greet us & grab our drink orders. it took nearly 15 minutes to get my vodka soda. Next we ordered food and from the time we ordered to the time the food got there it was about 40 minutes. This is stressful for someone waiting for a flight. My boyfriend ordered the avocado chicken sandwich & due to dietary restrictions, he asked if there were any more ingredients that came on the sandwich, other than what was listed. Miguel said 'no' and once his sandwich arrived, there was a thick layer of Mayo to the point of difficult consumption. I had ordered the skinny burger & it's 1/4 pound burger and it was incredibly pink for it being such a thin patty. That makes us incredibly upset since it took so long for our food to come-- why wasn't it prepared properly? all in all- we won't be back. This bar is managed terribly...bartenders spend more time chatting amongst themselves as opposed to keeping their eyes open for people who have empty glasses or waiting to pay their tab to get to their gate on time...oh well, guess you got to lower your standards when it cones to Chicago airports.
