Natalie and Craig (the two I met that work there) made it such a lovely, warm yet professional environment to be in. They listened carefully to what I said I wanted doing, then did a stellar job of my hair, and gave me good advice for how to look after my new 'doo'. Plus the charming little teacups they serve up their countless varieties of tea they have in, gave it that added little touch of homeliness, which made me feel welcomed and valued as soon as I sat down. I'd happily recommend it to everyone and anyone; it was simply such a delightful place to stumble upon in Hockley.

I bought a Wowcher voucher deal described as a wash, cut, blow-dry and luxury head massage…read more When I arrived at the salon I loved how it looked, lovely pine floor boards and white wash walls with hints of 1950's and old fashioned Jazz music playing. It made me feel incredibly relaxed so much so that I think I genuinely forgot about my hair! The girl that did my hair was absolutely lovely, if a little shy but I had no reason to think she didn't know what she was doing. I was first handed a booklet of different head massages which I asked if I could choose one as part of the deal but I was told I'd have to pay extra so I politely said I'd go without in hind-sight I should have questioned but to be honest I'd forgotten what the description of the wowcher was. The luxury head massage was just conditioner and 2 minutes of massage. She asked me briefly at the beginning what I'd like doing to which I said a couple of inches off and a few layers putting in. After washing she just got on with it, there was no question of is this enough? would you like anymore off? I didn't see my hair cut at all as it was taken down my back the whole time and I was so lethargic after sitting in the seat for around 90 minutes that I didn't really say anything. When I got home the ends of my hair were all over the shop, I don't think much of it was straight at all. One bit was almost an inch longer than the rest and the front was noticeably longer as it had all been taken down my back and not down the sides. She didn't even check it herself thinking about it and since I've had to cut the noticeably longer bits myself, granted I said I only wanted a small amount of layers putting through but you can't notice them at all. Its a good job I have long hair because if it was short I think I'd be really upset. It's a real shame because I thought the salon was beautiful and until I noticed what a mess my hair was in I would have been a returning customer.

Went on a recommend a friend deal. So got the cut half price. Absolutely horrified. When we got…read moretaken upstairs I was given a jacket/apron to put on, the member of staff who helped me put it on was rude and did not even crack a smile the whole time I was there. She pulled a face at me because I was unsure how to put it on as at my normal salon (Hairven Gedling.) they are different. But she clearly told me to put it on wrong,as it fell off half way through the cut! I then got sat at a station. My stylist was floating between me and another client. The other client was having a bleach blonde/white dye in her hair. so my stylist had gloves covered in dye on. She then began on my hair with the dye all over her gloves! The dye thankfully didn't mark my hair, however it did mark my new white shirt! I was only in there for a cut and blow dry. So was definitely not my dye. In my opinion its cross contamination and I think it is disgraceful. The stylist also abruptly told me that I would be bald in 3 months time because my hair was diabolical. It's now 6 months down the line and my hair is fine and comes down to my elbows. I've always had comments about how thick my hair is and being quite shy this upset me. The cut itself was wonky, one side of my hair was about 2 inches longer than the other. And was straightened to an inch of its life. It was so straight it stuck to the side of my face and neck. My sister also came here and her cut was wonky too, hers was a lot more noticeable than mine. The staff make a place but they are destroying it. There was not a uniform my stylist had dungarees on, uniform is the foundation to a smart business, in my opinion. Its a shame 2 members of staff can have such a negative effect on a business. Will be sticking to Hairven next time :)

My one and only star goes to the decor. It really is lovely. Sadly, thats where it ends…read more Paid over the odds to sit an a very 'awkward' salon. When you go, you get a 'free' neck and shoulder massage - which would be lovely, of only you could really relax. Great idea in theory, but it doesn't work in reality. When I was quoted previously about £40 for a colour, I did think that was a bargain - I asked if that included a hair dry too, and was told yes it was. So, you can imagine my surprise when I got to the till and the price was £64!!!! (please note, this is just for ONE overall colour) which, in the end turned out uneven and too dark. As for the hairdresser, I got the silent one - do not expect to be spoken too - I did try and make conversation, but its a no-go, don't attempt this whatever you do. Its very 'last year' don't you know... I know after writing this review, there will inevitably be lots of other 'glowing' reviews added (usually written by the owner, or employees) but I am writing this for other people who are looking for honesty, and perhaps looking for a salon that is new to them. So, honest opinion? Overpriced, uncomfortable and too many ego's. Most defiantly will not return.

I actually wonder whether myself and the person above had the same hairdresser…read more I booked an appointment with the master stylist and had used Aveda in Holborn before so was confident I would get a cut I wanted. I sat there and asked for one inch off my hair which was resting a good way down my back and my shoulders. Basically the guy cut 2 inches off my hair, I actually got so upset that he called the manager over. It was too late to stick my hair back on my head and the cut does not even suit my face. It will take me at least 4 months to grow my hair back to the length it was. He blow dryed it straight and it did look better, but then had the audacity to say "oh you know hairdressers get scissor happy". What confuses me is how does a hairdresser in a supposed top salon like Aveda get to be a master stylist when he doesn't listen to the customer. Like the lady above, he barely spoke to me either - I will be phoning Aveda in London to complain. All I can say is that the manager was amazing and she didn't charge me for the cut. The cut itself is good, but just not the length or the style I was hoping for at all. Very disappointed and I wouldn't go back.
