Don't let the exterior fool you. This place is great! Unassuming little cafe located in an old Pizza Hut building. Very clean. The food is fresh and delicious We had the cheese burgers which were hot, juicy and well seasoned. Lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles were great tasting additions. It's very disappointing that every time I go to White Guava they happen to be out of the very thing I specifically wanted to order. I think they serve very good quality food but WHY do they have a menu at all? Maybe just have daily specials on the whiteboard instead so people don't show up for a specific thing and then they're out of it. We are usually too early or too late to try White Guava Cafe. We finally made it today. My husband & I and we were not disappointed at all!!! He had the buffalo chicken & I had the crispy chicken adobo. Both were perfectly made! Chicken is very juicy & crispy. Toss salad is beautiful & Wafu dressing is awesome!!! All of the employees were extremely sweet & so accommodating to our requests. We also noticed a play section for your keiki! Next visit our grandsons will come & join us! Delicious meal with generous portions. I had the Korean Chicken, my companions had the adobe chicken and lilikoi Chicken which we shared and taste tested. All very yummy and filling. Even the salad portion was generous considering the price of lettuce these days. Our server, Zoran, was friendly, polite and so efficient. would not go again. i came as a party of 5 & got there around 12:10. We got seated and didn't get helped till maybe 12:40 and we had to stop someone to help us. They helped other tables that were sat after ours. They did not come to check up on us. once again we had to ask for water refills. It wasn't busy within the restaurant and all tables had been waiting for a while. Tables started to get up and leave because it was taking so long. it wasn't until 1:40 we got one order out of five. They all came out very slowly, and it seemed as if the cook was more focused on completing the takeout orders rather dine in and doing one order per ticket. If they had a better system maybe i would go back again, but i don't see myself wanting to go back. It was not worth the almost 2 hour wait. read more

Staff needs to be trained in welcoming and greeting guests when they first walk in. There was not even a gesture of acknowledgement from two waiters at the register and one waitress chatting with friends in a half filled place. Right from the get go the atmosphere was negative. Menu options were somewhat limited and the waiter was not helpful. Food was lackluster at best. Not even a thank you as we left. So disappointing. Sorry, but not going back. read more

Cute new lunch/dinner spot right across from the big KTA store. The menu is a great mixture of local favorites and some vegetarian options. We had the fried chicken adobo (yummy) and one of their delicious salads - all of the produce was fresh and flavorful, I am usually wary of restaurant salads but this one surpassed all my expectations. We also ordered a lemon meringue pie for dessert which was equally tasty! Would definitely come back here, looking forward to my next meal at White Guava. read more

We live here in Hilo but had not visited the White Guava Cafe previously, so we decided to give it a try. I had the chicken sandwich, my husband a salad with chicken on the side. The proportions were large and the sandwich had a nice thick piece of chicken. That said, the sandwich itself was pretty bland. No seasonings, just a boiled(?) piece of chicken. The biggest disappointment, however, was the exceedingly long wait we had in getting our food. We were seated at 11:20, the room was about 25% capacity, so there was no wait to be seated. That's where the good serviced ended. (The waitress was nice, just not attentive whatsoever.) We were FINALLY served our food a full ONE HOUR later. No one stopped to explain why the delay was so long, in fact no one stopped by at all except for taking our order. We figured they were short-staffed, so we'd be patient. When we were done eating we waited a little over 30 minutes(!) for our check. But it never came. Finally we went up to the front and waited there for about 5 minutes before getting help to pay. When I asked if they were short-staffed I was told no, not short-staffed, just a normal day. So I'm guessing the long wait is pretty standard there. Because of this, and because of the so-so food I give it 3 stars. Honestly I wanted to give 2, but I don't want to give that low of a rank based on one meal. But to be sure, we won't be going back. read more

I don't understand why this place isn't busier. This was one of our favorite causal meals on Hawaii Island. The portions are massive and delicious. I'm not vegan but I ordered the vegan curry. I selected the sweet potato salad for a side. Both outstanding. My kids had the chicken Katsu which they get almost everywhere we go. They said it was the best they have ever had. My wife had Korean style fried mushrooms. That was also amazing. Our waiter was very friendly and efficient. While the building is not fancy (it's an old converted former Pizza Hut building) the food and service are top notch. My wife and i dropped in for lunch after the long trip over from Kona. There was a couple young men waiting for any acknowledgement at all from the wait staff or others coming in and out of the kitchen. Finally it came, one of the cooks came out and stopped right in front of all 4 of us and said "don't stand in the way, you can sit over there you know". He pointed to a bench near the front door. We got there about 12:20 and got the last available table. We observed several groups where one person was eating and the others were still waiting for food within their group. The waitress took our order within minutes of being seated. After 20 minutes she dropped off rolls for us. This is the end of her service to us as she never came back to the table. The bus person dropped off one meal after an hour. The burger was just okay and the fries were under cooked with one fry being raw. I waited another 20 minutes for my meal and by this time the restaurant tables were mostly empty. My meal was very average tasting with the best part of it being the potato salad which was more of a macaroni salad and very few potato pieces. My partner asked the bus person to come over so he could request a side of barbecue sauce for his fries and she returned with A1 steak sauce instead. The next table over and we both remarked each other what remarkably poor service and food we received. No return customer here and I'm sure most of the others at other tables will not give this place another chance either. Too bad... read more
