Not having me or her father there to advocate for her, she had to attend this appointment by herself. She explained to him that they get so terrible that she often throws up and passes out. We instructed her to ask for an MRI, which she did. She was told no way is he sending her for an MRI for just migraines, gave her pills and told her to take for the rest of your life. That was it. When she was back in NYC for Christmas break we took her to a neurologist here. Two serious issues were found on her scan, both of which we will be following up with in New York. I'll start by saying Dr. Benda's bedside manner while treating a very nervous 19 year old girl was atrocious. Shame on this situation and you Dr. Benda, do better for the people that place their trust in you.

If I could leave a 0 star review, I would. I brought my daughter (3 years old) in June 10th to PCI Orthopedics via referral from her pediatrician. She was showing signs of her knee hurting. ER took an xray, nothing visible to them. Pediatrician didn't see anything, which is why she referred to a specialist. We met with Dr. Brown, who by most measures was a very nice man. He said there was a break but it just didn't show on xrays because with toddlers that can take a few days. Okay, fine cast it is. The gals putting on the cast seemed less than informed, talking amongst themselves about what another person would have done to cast her leg, A waterproof liner was used, on my toddler, on her leg. I was told to keep the cast on for 4 weeks. When scheduling, the doctor was going to be gone at the 4 week mark, so had to make it 5 weeks. Fast forward to the 4th week. At this point, the cast has been a nightmare. Water stayed in the cast for HOURS no matter how much I tried to drain or dry it. She also had not slept through the night once since getting the cast (understandably so). At this point, I called PCI July 6th (Monday) to see if anyone else could see her. The receptionist met me with attitude from the start. Monday blues, I get it. She stated they do not transfer patients to different doctors per their policy. I had asked why my daughter then had to have the cast on an additional week strictly because the doctor was on vacation. She transferred me to the nurses line. The nurse I spoke with 100% should not be in healthcare. She asked why I wanted my daughter to see another doctor, and I explained I didn't see a value in her having to wait an additional week just because he was on vacation. Her response was "He's allowed to go on vacation". Correct, he sure is! But that does NOT mean my daughter is required to wait for him. This is a 3 year old we're talking about here. She continuously cut me off, yells at me, and abruptly ends the call. I then call my pediatrician to see where else I could go and they stated the University of Iowa. I call the UofI ortho and they were able to not only see her, but see her that same week July 8th (Wednesday). Oddly enough, within an hour of making that appointment, PCI calls me. Surprisingly enough, they were able to get her to see a different doctor for the same date as the UofI. I declined and let them know under zero circumstances will I ever be back! All this is relevant as the follow up appointment at the UofI proved PCI made wrong decision after wrong decision. First, never should my daughter have ever had the "waterproof" layer. It was only intended for arm casts. Even a basic google search can show that a waterproof liner is not recommended for a full leg cast. My daughter had sores around her knee and her foot from the cast. Secondly, the second xray (4 weeks after the first) showed zero break. HER KNEE WAS NEVER BROKEN!!!! So my daughter was in a cast for 4 weeks at 3 years old AND PCI yelled at me for not wanting to wait an ADDITIONAL week. Not to mention the side effects of having a cast. My 3 year old is now relearning how to walk without her cast. As far as I'm concerned, there was no reason for my daughter to ever have a cast, and to be treated so poorly for asking for it off, 0/10 recommend PCI. I will drive to North Liberty or Iowa City any day rather than come back.

They tell me it is "appropriate" to wait 6 days to get a cast on it. It isn't appropriate in my opinion (and my GP) to make someone wait 6 days to intervene with a break and a lot of pain. I think it is the holiday weekend issue but surely they need to be able to take urgent needs, holiday or not. But as noted by others, you do not have much choice in CR to go else where. How did they get so uncaring about people?

The doctor barely looked in our infant's mouth for under two seconds and claimed he could tell the adenoids were enlarged based on that quick glance. He then pushed us hard toward surgery right away, making us feel like there was no other choice and pressuring us to put him under the knife. No mention of trying allergy medications or any other conservative options first -- nothing. Adenoids sit high behind the nose and can't possibly be accurately sized by a fast look in the mouth. That only lets you see the tonsils. A proper check needs a scope through the nose or an X-ray. We left feeling pressured and uneasy about the rushed exam and lack of alternatives. Wouldn't recommend this doctor if you're looking for careful, thorough care for your child.

I received services recently and the cost was nothing like what I expected. The service was…read morefriendly and good; however, being that I have a high deductible insurance plan I was up front with wanting to know the cost. I even met with a financial person prior to having any testing done. She told me the average and a range of expected cost for the test that I was set up to have. Apparently I was naive to think that the top of end of the range she provided would be the high end of the spectrum of what the test would cost. No, that was not the case and it was $200-$300 higher. Then, I had to pay again to go over the results, this was never disclosed to me and I must be a moron for assuming that if you get a test done you want the result analyzed as part of the cost of the test. I am assuming more and more of their patients will be working with these high deductible insurance plans and they need to learn to be more crisp on ALL the costs up front. My experience with the doctor and staff was great, but I will make sure to get the EXACT cost prior to letting them do anything in the future.

I was interested in having some skin tightening done under my eyes and had a consult scheduled yesterday. I took off work and arrived for my 2:30 appointment. At 3:10 I had not been seen yet. Twice I was told he was "just finishing up and would be in shortly." I had somewhere to be at 3:30 so I informed the office manager I was leaving. Her words were "he's just finishing up with discharging someone," zero apology. She sat there and said nothing when I said I was leaving and I was not pleased I had taken off work. I still have not heard from them to follow up and am assuming I won't. To act like my time isn't valuable is inexcusable. This comes less than a month after I referred my sister to have $20k in procedures done, and they knew that. I will never return.

I have found the culture change recently and that is that they like to double bill and over bill. Now it makes sense how she told me she was told she wasn't bringing in enough money.
