VEG ER for Pets

We took our dog Florence on Thursday night for an acute allergic reaction and was immediately seen…read more(thankfully there were only 1-2 other pets there). Everyone seemed very eager to help and made th process smoothe. We liked the open concept because we were able to see the care provided not only to our dog but to the other pets as well. All of the staff worked as such a great team, and the communication between them seemed flawless. We were seen by Dr. Majors, and our tech was Hannah. Both of them were very reassuring and treated Florence like their own. VEG is a very pet family oriented vet, seeing us as a whole and not just a couple people with an animal. When it came time for the price, we were met with such nice transparency, and the DVM was honest with what she recommended and did not try to make us agree to anything that was unnecessary while also making sure we had the option to take all the tests if we so desired. I would absolutely recommend this emergency vet. We have been to another in Carrollton which did not come close to the level of care we experienced here. Thank you!

On April 1, 2026, my 11-year-old French Bulldog, Mica, woke up at 4:15 a.m. in a full-blown…read moreseizure. Horrified beyond measure, I scooped my baby up and jumped into the car to seek medical attention. We have a number of veterinary ERs that have popped up around our McKinney neighborhood, but I opted to risk the extra drive to get my baby into the care of VEG in Allen. While I had never experienced their emergency services, I had experienced their customer service once before--when I had the misfortune of losing her brother on Thanksgiving Day in 2024. We found this place by chance after being treated very coldly and callously by another establishment, which led us to VEG. That experience stuck with me, and thank God it did. In both instances, they treated me and my family with respect, compassion, and great care. Mica had three more mini seizures while in their care, and the staff was immediately on top of it. They were very upfront and clear in their communication, making sure I knew what was happening every step of the way. This allowed me to make informed decisions. It was my biggest fear that I would walk into a grave prognosis--which, on paper, it was documented as such: "grave to guarded." Be that as it may, I truly feel they gave my baby the fighting chance that saved her life. Not once did they bring up euthanasia, and thank goodness, because I don't think my heart could have handled it. I prayed to God to let her see her 12th birthday, which was the very next day, April 2--and sure enough, we made it. She is now 96 hours post-seizure, with no additional episodes since. We were prescribed and provided a rescue dose of midazolam in the event of another seizure, and should it happen again, you can guess where we'll be going. Thank you, specifically, to Dr. Majors, Taylar, and Walter. I am forever grateful for how you cared for us that day. You rolled up your sleeves and sprang into action. May you all serve as the example for how services like this should be rendered. From kissing my baby's forehead, to accommodating all of our needs in such a stressful moment, to sitting on the floor with us--it was all noticed and deeply appreciated. Happy Easter, and thank you again for the gift of a second chance at life.

I've been going to Custer McDermott now for about 10 years. I came to them after talking to a Plano…read moreK9 officer about finding a new vet. My previous vet missed something critical on a GSD that cause the dog pain and the dog was reactive to touch and he labeled the dog as having a temperament issue and suggested that I put the dog down. Nope. Enter Dr Pilkington. After the issue was solved with the pain from another Houston area vet, I started bringing my dog to Dr Pilkington. Drs Brewer and Cinclair would also sometimes work with Dominic. Dominic only lived to 8. He was a high energy working GSD that had lots of drive. At about 5 we found him unresponsive in his crate after we woke up. We rushed him to the clinic and Dr Pilkington made room for him in his schedule. It took a bit to stabilize, but his blood-sugar was dangerously low. Almost fatal low. Eventually, he was stabilized and found to have Addison's disease. The team was able to extend his life for another 3 years with Dominic being in good shape on his medicine. Eventually, his condition got the better of him and he passed. His last month or two, Dr Pilkington did his best to see if an adjustment to his meds was all that was necessary. He also helped us ease his transition. I won't be bringing my animals to any other vet. This team is phenomenal. I've read some feedback about price. I don't really agree. I find the team in line with high quality care. You get what you pay for. I don't find them unreasonable at all. They are phenomenal with large breed dogs.

It was great actually until one change. I have used this vet clinic for over 20 years. However I…read morewill be switching. I was willing to drive the hour and a half to see Dr. Pilkington without hesitation. However, I was contacted by Custer McDermott Animal Hospital to inform me that they would no longer approve Chewy prescriptions, and I would have to drive an hour and a half to pick up a paper prescription and mail that into Chewy if I wanted to use Chewy. The vet clinic charges a lot more than Chewy so no I won't be giving Chewy up, I won't be driving an hour and a half for a slip of paper as the clinic email stated. The clinic has no power over where and how I spend my money. I will be giving up Custer McDermott Animal Hospital and sadly Dr. Pilkington. To be clear, David Pilkington is the one and only reason we have been loyal to this clinic for all these years. If not for David, we would have changed clinics years ago. Now, they have given us reason to change simply out of greed. Vet care is as expensive , meds are expensive. When the clinic makes a petty policy that costs you more money, you shop around.
