EXCELLENT customer service! I was on holiday in Ireland recently, and the battery charger for my camera batteries was damaged in transit, so I had no way to power my Canon R3 camera. When I arrived in Limerick, I found Whelan Cameras and reached out to them. I spoke with Brian on the phone, and though they did not carry the specific Canon battery charger, Brian said that he could solve my problem if I came into the store. I did so, and he promptly grabbed a plug-in power converter (charging block) and a special USB-C to USB-C that carries sufficient current to charge my batteries while they are in the camera. He unpackaged both items and connected them appropriately to my camera and it instantly began charging the battery. The total cost of this solution was less than 50 Euros (CHEAP compared to the cost of Canon's PD-E1 in-camera charging solution that is over 150 Euros!). In short, Brian went out of his way to find a solution to my problem, and to demonstrate that it was indeed viable. He provided me with a way to salvage my ability to take photos while on holiday. Thanks Whelan Cameras, and in particular, THANKS BRIAN ! read more

Extremely rude staff member. They were horribly unhelpful and condescending. It was very disappointing, and I would not wish for anyone else to be treated in that manner. read more

Highly recommend this shop! I've been a customer of Whelans for over 15 years now from when I got my first dslr as student in LSAD, all the way into my professional career. I have helped many of the brands I work for set up their own in-house studio with the help of the lads in Whelans. any equipment that's needed they helped me find and get. I love that once you get to know the lads they are always there to help you with any technical issues or advice. But even as a new customer they are still here to help you out and advise you in the right direction. At no stage have I ever felt like they just wanted to make a quick sale, actually found the opposite, once they know what im trying to shoot, what my budget is, they have always advised me well. They take everything you tell them into consideration to make your decision easier. I'm a strong believer in buying from local shops for all of the reasons I've stated above. but also as local photographers, I believe we all should be supporting our local business. read more

If your in the market for any photographic equipment make this your first stop, the staff are extremely knowledgable and photographers. It is the oldest and most respected store in Ireland, their customer service is first class and makes a refreshing change in today's world. They listen to your requirements, concerns and go out of their way to ensure that you are 110% satisfied with you purchase, if things do wrong they work closely with all the major manufacturers on your behalf. I'm a professional photographer and I would not purchase my photographic equipment anywhere else, even recommending them on my Gaelic Memories web page. They run very informative classroom sessions and invite top photographers from around the country to talk about their experiences and shooting techniques. I have not been paid or endorsed by Whelan Cameras, my review is based on my real world experience, when calling ask for Bernard, Dave, Bryan or John and they will look after you.
