Restored VW 2008 R32 wheel
Russell D.

I've been dealing with Wheel enhancement for over 20 years for rims and tires always with an excellent experience and they stepped up to the plate again when it came time to restore the wheels on my special VW Mark V 2008 R32 which had become corroded from the local salt air. The wheels which were silver powder coated and then clear coated look spectacular as shown in the picture all at a fair price. I couldn't be happier!

I was working on a project for my Mom. In February 2012, I helped her obtain a 2011 Mercedes C300. She wanted to have me modify it since that's what I did to my 05 C230. There were certain parts of the C63 AMG she wanted to implement on her car like the quad tips in the rear and the massive 6pot front and 4 pot rear brakes. I did my homework and research over a two year time frame. It was financially impossible for me to complete the project in one shot. So I did it little by little. I began with a Bilstein B14 coil over suspension, and then came the 18" OEM MB 7spoke wheels and Carlsson front lip. I then installed a C63 rear diffuser and had quad tips welded on. The remaining pieces were the C63 AMG brakes and 19" HRE P44SC wheels. I had a few photoshop renderings that I put together and out of all she chose the HRE P44SC wheels. Mind you, this was not a cheap project! If you know about HRE then you know what kind of prices I am talking about. I called 3-5 different dealers and got quotes on a HRE P44SC wheel and tire package. Wheel Enhancement happened to be one of them. I spoke with someone named Dave Martin. I told him about the project and he was hesitant if the P44SC wheels would fit due to the fact that I had a regular C300 chassis and was about to install C63 AMG brakes. My homework and research concluded that the C63 and C300 chassis share a lot of similarities, but Dave wanted to be sure by getting confirmation from HRE's engineering department. I provided Dave with information about the project and the specific wheel widths and diameters that I wanted. I also stated that I wanted a mid-range priced tire as these wheels would be seasonal - used in fall, summer, and spring. Dave got to work and called me back a few hours later to give me pricing and confirmation that the C63 brake upgrade could be factored into the manufacturing of the wheels. I told Dave that I'd review the pricing and call him back in a few days if I wanted to place an order. Well, it didn't take long for me to call him back because Dave's wheel and tire package was the best option out of all. I ended up going with HRE P44SC's in a tinted brushed aluminum finish. He stated that the lead time would take 5 weeks so I went ahead and put down a deposit to get the order started. I think I ordered in May and hoped that the wheels would be done before June 2 because that would be my Moms birthday. The plan was to have the car completed with the brake upgrade and wheels by June 2. By week 3 or 4 I was a little anxious and excited so I called Dave to get status of the wheels. They were on schedule and were ready to ship. I think the wheels arrived on my door step about the end of May; A few days before my June 2 deadline. Upon opening the box, I was amazed at the quality of the wheels AGAIN! I say again, because I visited the HRE facility in May 2013. I planned a vacation to California to visit family and while doing so I figured I would stop by the HRE facility to check out their operations. Tito gave me a tour of the facility and I got to see the ins and outs of HRE and its products. I was very impressed with the way they ran business and by the quality of their products. I knew that by ordering a set of HRE wheels, I would be getting a quality product. Once the wheels arrived, I called Dave to say thank you. I also told him that I do go to California often so maybe I would stop by his shop to say hello. Well, in August 2014 my cousin and I drove 24hours from KS to CA to visit family in Orange County. I stopped by Wheel Enhancement (in Culver City; their old location) to personally thank Dave for the product and service he provided on my Moms C300 project. It was a slow day, but Dave was kind of enough to show me some of the other products that he carried along with some customer rides. Yeah, you better believe it! I drove from KS to CA to personally shake the hand of and thank Dave Martin of Wheel Enhancement. If you're looking for a set of HRE, Forgeline, or BBS wheels, Dave is your man! You will not be disappointed! I currently don't have any new vehicle projects going on right now, but when I do Dave Martin & Wheel Enhancement will be the first on my list when I am shopping for wheels.

Carrera IV 18x8/10.5 wheels on a 996.2 lowered on H&R springs with freshly mounted turbo-style exhaust tips ;D Thanks to Cameron and John!!

Honestly, it doesn't get better than this shop! Old school, good guys who are honest, direct in their craft and truly care for us car-people customers. John worked with me on my low budget and track-oriented purpose. He came up with a solution not only to fit my budget but one that looks pretty damn good too. I never considered these wheels but I think they are top notch now - have a look at the lapiz blue 996 cab pictures.. Just came back from putting on a second-hand set of Carerra IV wheels on my 996.2 C2 narrow body. I was far from the big spender. John, Cameron and Dave were super, super cool and treated me as one of the other high value car owners there - there was brand spanking new GT2RS, and a couple of other exotics so what you see in pictures is indeed their customer base. I had 3 bent 5-spoke wheels and "thought" it wasn't a big deal as I wasn't getting much vibration. Boy, was I wrong. Now, car cuts through curves like a knife through butter... I have a much better feel for the road and can push the tires confidently. Thanks so much guys!! Best Regards and looking forward till my next wheeling needs! -Stan

Even with my small job, Dave was very accommodating and gave a great explanation of what needed to be done.

These guys lost any chance at my business right from the jump with their arrogant,…read morecustomer-unfriendly approach. I sent in my photos and details on Monday. It took them 3 full days to get back to me radio silence until Thursday afternoon around 4:45 PM. Then, out of nowhere, they demanded a deposit within 15 minutes (had to pay by 5:00 PM that same day) or I'd lose my appointment slot for Friday. I was stuck in rush-hour traffic in Los Angeles no way I could handle that on the spot without risking everything. You make a potential customer wait 3 full days for a response, then hit them with an impossible 15-minute ultimatum during peak traffic hours? That's not customer service; that's pure arrogance. They used the $50 deposit to lose a customer instead of giving time or more options to pay since I waited 3 full days to even be contacted. You don't build long-term value by treating people like this. You make your money from repeat business and referrals, not one rushed sale that alienates everyone. All this did was guarantee I'll never come back and actively pushed me straight to your competitor, which turned out to be a way better experience. He was responsive, professional, no pressure tactics. All anyone has to do is look on Yelp: the guy who is second with 718 five-star reviews is the one to go to. There's a reason you multiple accounts with reviews: the inconsistency shows. One bad interaction like this costs you a customer forever and now a negative review that future people will see. How you treat people matters just as much as (if not more than) the product or service. This experience screamed "we don't value you until you pay," and it backfired spectacularly. I wouldn't choose this brand even if the work was top-tier. Think hard about pushing rushed deposits on people you've barely spoken to, reviews matter, and this one is loud. 1/5 stars. Steer clear if you value basic respect, reasonable communication, and some flexibility after making customers wait days.
