My boyfriend started going to this barber shop a month ago and can not stop raving about his experience there. He walked away with a great hair cut and had great customer service there that left him happy all day. So for Valentine's Day, I thought it would be a great idea to get him a gift certificate there for a hair cut and a shave. Now my boyfriend did tell me that this place was completely throwback and even had one of those old timey registers, so I figured they might not even have gift cards to issue so I decided to give them a call. I spoke to Ricky on the phone and he was one of the nicest, most helpful people I have ever talked to. He told me to come on in and he would write a card of some sort to use as a gift certificate there. When I went to pick up the certificate, I finally got to see the place for myself. It was adorable--old fashioned barber chairs and beautiful oak floors. The place was so clean and well kept. The men that work there are big Italian teddy bears (who I later learned are all related). One of the men that was cutting hair talked to my daughters who were with me, and he was so polite and friendly. I think next time Scott gets his haircut, I'll probably come with just to see them again. So for any guy in the West Suburbs looking for an old fashioned hair cut, I highly recommen Wheaton Barber Shop! read more

Nothing but love for these guys! Every single one of these guys are just the nicest, most all around great dudes. I was hesitant to make the jump to a legit barber shop, but after watching my hair get butchered time and time again at one of the "fast food" hair cuttery's, I decided to finally make the leap. And I am so glad I did. Angelo, "The Doc", took the time to ask me some great questions about my style, getting me to consider it in a way I never had before, made a minor suggestion, and then was off and running. Since then I've been complimented by everyone from my wife to my business partner on my hair. Basically the same thing I've always done, only now at the hands of a competent professional! Second time I've been here. Was disappointed with the cut both times, especially this time. I described the kind of cut I wanted (cropped, very short on sides and back, long on top), which I thought was simple enough. But the barber ended up cutting my hair the same medium length throughout and took the cape/smock/bib (what do they call that thing?) off me and said I was done, instead of letting me see my cut first and asking if it was alright. I'm now going to have to wait to grow my hair out a bit on the top and then go somewhere else to get the sides and back done correctly. I don't know if other barbers here are better, but if you're new and don't know the best guy(s) here, I would not recommend taking the gamble at this place. P.S. Based on some unprofessional comments/jokes made by other barbers, I would definitely not come here if you are LGBT. read more

This one was closest to work and home so thought I'd give it a try first. Unfortunately I went there twice after work ( about 4:00 ) and absolutely zero parking. I have been here twice for a haircut. It was $16, very strategic, they assume you give them the $4 tip and kind of make you feel guilty when you ask for change and "only" pay them $16 for a haircut that took about 20 minutes at most. And would cost less than $10 anywhere else. The owner is a nice guy but most of the other barbers are pretty rough around the edges and will only talk to you if the topic involves beer, sports, etc... The shop itself is not too clean, either. The television "Cheers" of barber shops, Wheaton Barber Shop has their business, but they have made an effort to become a part of the community around them with shopkeepers from nearby coming in just to talk and hang out as well as the occasional trim. After the place I've been going to for years closed, my 11 year old son and I thought we would check it out. Couldn't have been happier. We arrived without appointments - not a problem - waited about only about 20 minutes on a busy Saturday - the place was clean, the haircut was great and reasonable. The shop is clean, has five chairs and lively conversation. One of the things I enjoyed the most, is it reminded me of the neighborhood shop I grew up going to in Chicago - the place guys could go and be guys!! talk about sports, cars, humor or whatever issues of the day - unapologetically and amonst friends who have known each other for years.
