    Chase Bank - Outside

    Downtown Detroit

This is the nicest Chase bank I've ever been to. Located in downtown Detroit, it's modern and…read morepristine inside. I didn't take photos inside because I want to respect privacy but I took some of the building, lobby, and entrance. No lines. I didn't have to wait at all. Fast service. I went to order foreign currency for an upcoming trip and I didn't have to order in advance. They had the currency I needed in stock. I even got to choose a combination of larger and smaller bills. Excellent and friendly customer service. I will definitely continue to do my banking here.

CHASE HAS BEEN FINED $38.99 BILLION SINCE 2000 FOR BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES…read more Don't let Chase DOG you. File CFPB/OCC/FDIC/BBB complaints (or review), place reviews everywhere and TAKE YOUR MONEY OUT OF CHASE (OUR MONEY IS THEIR POWER. DON'T ALLOW THEM TO USE IT AGAINST US. EACH CLOSED ACCOUNT MAKES THEM WEAKER-FIGHT); sign onto existing class-action lawsuits against them (just type in search "existing class-actions against Chase"); "find a class-action attorney (type)" and file a new one and/or small claims (for a nominal fee; they have to pay for every case filed or lose by default) or regular lawsuit. They have to pay you excess of their error with a class-action though. In my case, on 11/8/23 I saw that an organization that I donated to had been making unauthorized charges on my credit card. I contacted Chase to halt and dispute the charges. After there was no resolution by 12/19/23 I contacted Chase and was told: Corporate -Chase could take "as long as it takes" to correct my account (what about the interest you're charged on that incorrect balance); -that she would not even ATTEMPT to credit one month, which I donated in cash (whether the organization had authorization or not); -the other months would be credited---eventually; -any company/organization can charge your credit card, and unless you can show that you paid them by other means (whether you owe them or not), you eat it. That is insane. Executive -Chase was not going to look into this issue any further -they may recoup the money that they had credited me -I was not going to speak to anyone other than her as long as she worked for "her supervisor's name; -that any company or organization can charge your card, as long as they have your number -she would not put her response in writing and that I had received all of the paperwork that I was going to receive from Chase. The organization reversed the charges, but Chase did nothing to assist me and/or accept their obligations. You don't have to pay the disputed amount on your card, so transfer the rest while you FIGHT. My 1/10/24 Chase review was removed by BBB as their policy is: "It is against policy to double whammy a company. Consumers are only permitted to either file a complaint or a customer review -- not both." (Doing nothing privately or nothing but venting publicly). A company only needs to respond; not resolve your issue. In my case, they just responded "We are keeping the resolution private, if there is one." Leaves one to wonder about the BBB. Consumer Affairs is delaying publishing this (it has been pending since 1/13/24; 9 days): Facebook won't allow ME to put 2-step verification on MY OWN account to stop anyone/whomever (probably them) from going into my account and removing or altering this review. It has happened several times (over 6x in 1 day) since I posted it. I'm sure Chase's BUDDIES don't like me or you telling people to take their money out of Chase. Wallethub won't allow me to update this to this draft.

    RBC Royal Bank

    RBC Royal Bank

I am sure the RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) deserves a better rating at this particular location, but…read morethe one time I visited left a foul taste in my mouth and prompted me to move my accounts lock, stock, and barrel to TD. I've had an RBC account since I was knee-high to a grasshopper and remembered that original account number for years. I conducted all my banking on the West Coast through the Royal and kept an account open long after I moved to the US for Canadian transactions. At some point in 2010, my account ended up inactive despite seeing some activity. No one on the 1-800 line was able to help and wanted me to show up in person. Living in Chicago, the earliest I got back to Canada or any RBC branch was 2011 in Windsor. A hike to Ontario just to do 30 minutes of banking for a 10 hour trip? Yikes. I showed up with all requisite ID, the last mailings I had from the Royal Bank, and various other documentation ready to straighten up this issue. I waited forever for a personal banker and then spent another 20 minutes in her office while she got a coffee and hunted around for her log-in details. We discovered my debit card didn't work. Then, when she got onto the computer, she had no ability to find my account. We searched by account numbers, routing numbers, a voided cheque from back in the day, and even my social security number to no avail. It took looking through my mother's records and a frustrating round-robin calling her on the Pacific Coast, three hours behind, to confirm we had a linked account and she could confirm the details. After all that, the manager popping in to see what the hold-up was, the bankers came to the conclusion that the Royal Bank shut down my account for reasons unclear. They gave me a few codes -- just letters or numbers -- and were shooing me out from the bank, while I demanded to know what these cryptic references meant. I tried to open a new account and the system kept spitting back errors. They refused to really explain what was going on. When all was said and done, after making multiple requests of the manager, I found out there was apparently some issue related to their credit department. They basically shoved me out the door with a phone number to call. When I called, it turned out that a disputed charge on a credit card I had in high school had been tagged on my RBC account, even though the issue was solved in 2004 when I was still living in Canada. I had to spend an hour and a half on the phone to find out they needed to clear the reference. I could technically open an account there just fine, but the awful experience at this branch haunts me and I don't want to deal with them as one of the two primary RBCs in Windsor.
