Toronto Humane Society

The Toronto Humane Society is a great place for anyone looking to adopt or support animal welfare…read more The staff and volunteers genuinely care about the animals, and you can tell they put in a lot of effort to make sure each one gets the right home. The shelter is clean, well run, and offers a lot of resources, not just for adoptions but also for pet care and education. Even if you're not looking to adopt, it's worth visiting or donating because they do so much for animals in need. They also have a variety of programs, from fostering to veterinary services, which makes a real difference in the community. You're even able to book "corporation events" for your company a great activity for team bonding and take care of these beautiful fur friends.

I came with my work to volunteer and learn more about the organization and facility. We received a…read moretour of the facility and were informed what each area was for and the type of work that they do. There's a special species section with rabbits, guinea pigs, turtles. When I think of the humane society I think of cats and dogs. Some of the dogs couldn't stop wagging their tails when we got close to their enclosures. They stuck their noses and paws through whatever crevice they could to get closer, I think in the hope that we'd pet them =(. We were told not to pet them. Upstairs there are some 'cat condos.' These are larger spaces for cats to move around in with different levels. There's one where kittens and cats can stay together and someone can play with them or another where an obese cat was supposed to be getting some exercise but he was just laying there. We filled separate ziplock bags with dog food puppies and adult dogs and then got to play with a puppy! The dogs get a minimum of 4 walks a day with some receiving 5 or 6. There's lots of different volunteering positions available. Just check their website for openings.

I used to go to a different vet for my cat. She got a UTI and we went there to run some tests and…read moreget her some medication. Not only were they unsuccessful at getting testable urine, I had to wait 2.5 hours to be seen, even though I made an appointment. I decided to look for a different vet and visited Harbourfront due to the good reviews and relatively close location. This place is quiet, staff feels more caring, and when they saw I was worried, they offered to keep my cat during the day while I was at work so they could wait for her to urinate and run tests. If you make an appointment, you won't have to wait too long. The vet and staff are great. I will go here to pick up my cat food (only purchasable from vets) and come here for all the annual checkups and issues.

I would not recommend Dr. Debski if you have a shy and anxious cat. We came into the clinic with…read moreour cat who has an eye infection that rapidly developed over 4 days. She is shy, anxious when outside of the house, insecure around new people, and can get aggressive. Dr. Debski was apparently informed of her behavioural nature and still man-handled her with abrupt and harsh movements, prying open her mouth and making her feel instantly unsafe. She was already aggravated due to the pain she is experiencing, and the way he pulled her out of a protected position without thinking twice was a complete violation of trust. We knew that Dr. Debski would never touch our cat again.

Extremely disappointing claims experience with Pets Plus Us / Northbridge…read more Over the course of several months I dealt with: * duplicate deductible application within the same policy year * conflicting reimbursement decisions * reversed reimbursements * missing claim documents and Explanation of Benefits files in Pet Cloud * claim pages showing little to no information * and repeated inability to reach management despite numerous phone calls and escalation requests I have now sent multiple escalation emails, filed external complaints, and still have not received a substantive resolution or direct management contact. At this stage, I want someone to act now and properly address these issues instead of continuing to send generic responses and delay the matter further. I am still hopeful that this can be resolved quickly and professionally. The most frustrating part is that the entire purpose of pet insurance is to help avoid financial strain during difficult medical situations. Instead, I was left carrying large balances on my credit card while waiting through repeated delays and inconsistent claim handling. I would strongly encourage policyholders to carefully review all reimbursements, deductible calculations, and claim records.

Pets Plus Us was unresponsive to repeated requests for a basic clarification: what, exactly, they…read moreconsider "pre-existing conditions" under my dog's new policy. They have full access to the veterinary records, yet refused to specify which conditions they believe are excluded. After a letter of complaint to the Ombudsman at Northbridge, the parent company, forced a response, apparently I should keep paying a sizeable monthly premium and only find out whether my dog is actually covered for a treatment if or when I file a claim. That's not insurance, it'a game of roulette! There is no ambiguity when they debit my credit card each month, but when it comes to defining coverage, the company suddenly becomes vague. Asking customers to pay while withholding clear information about exclusions is reprehensible and feels like a sleazy way of doing business. A company that cannot clearly explain what it will cover does not inspire confidence or deserve any customer's trust. Potential amd existing customers, please take note!
