We have been trying to switch insurance agencies for almost 2-3 years but kept getting held back because the policy had been set up in a way that our 3 cars and home were all on different renewal dates. As such if we ever tried to switch, we were asked to pay hundreds of dollars in cancellation fees. The primary account holder on the policy passed away and so we contacted Amy's office and explained that we would need to change the names on the policies. After talking to someone who said she would call us back the same or next day, we didn't hear back from them until we called them another 2 times and then sent an email saying that we would have to bring the issue up with the insurance ombudsman. We received a frantic call back but were told that the rates would increase by almost $2100 a year, adding more stress to our family after our loss. Finally, we ended up calling the Financial Services Authority of Ontario to investigate the matter to see why one policy had different renewal dates for over 8 years. They were able to get us in touch the Desjardin complaint office who rectified the issue and cancelled the policy with no charge. I am now with TD Insurance + Desjardin Corporate paying lower than what I was originally paying and with better service. Desjardin was very helpful in sorting this matter out and I would recommend any agent other than Amy Hung Insurance Agency.

The fact that we have a written agreement, a signed contract, means nothing. The only "favour" they are willing to do is to let me shop around within the next week if I want to switch. I have no words to describe my anger and frustration that in Canada, a country with laws, an insurance company can pull this off. I am certain there are consumer protection laws to protect consumers from such behaviour and now I have to waste a lot of time finding an alternative and exploring legal options. This is extremely unfair. I understand that errors can happen but you don't simply put the onus on the customer. You made the error, you accept that you made the error. It's only logical that you set things right.
