Today we brought in our Ariens power washer for the third time. We had it in this past winter where it sat for 3 months because they had to repair snowblowers first. We brought it in in October to be fixed and winterized. Three months later they told us it was ready. Today we took it out for the first time since then and discovered that the hose bringing the detergent up didn't even fit the "repair ". We brought it back and were treated very poorly. Both Ben and Bob tried to tell us that we "broke" it again. Not true. We never used it. Neither of them would come look at it just insisted they could do nothing because we had "lost" the part that would connect. We didn't lose anything. We hadn't used it at all. We were told it would be awhile because they have to order the part. So once again we are without a power washer and Bob took the washer inside and just said he would " look into it". We are not impressed with the service at this place anymore. Time to find another place to purchase our equipment after 60 years of buying all of our equipment there. Sad!! read more

Purchased new Ariens Deluxe 30 w/EFI on 11/10/2019. Out the door price of $2007. The EFI (fuel injection) unit is a $300 premium over the carbureted Deluxe 30, and is supposed to insure easy starting (and eliminate the problem of old gas gumming up the carb and yielding a no start condition). On 11/23/2019 I attempted to start the unit for the first time. Would not start. Westenbroek's picked up unit on 11/27/2019, returned on 12/11/2019 (14 days later). Looked online at the Owners Manual (Unit delivered with no Owners Manual, and only one of two keys that were supposed to be with it). Owners Manual discloses that unit has a battery for the EFI, that will run down if key is left on. This was indeed the problem, as a new battery was installed as a repair. I am reasonably certain that this unit is left over from last year. I wasn't told this when I bought it. There are several places within easy driving that sell Ariens. Most (if not all) of these send the units to Ariens for repairs as needed. Westenbroek's is a "Preferred Dealer" by Ariens, meaning that they are qualified to perform warranty work on-site rather than shipping units to Ariens. Westenbroek's is in the Service business. I should have known better from my only previous experience with them. A few year ago I took a snowblower in for either a belt or cable (cannot remember which). They said they had to order the part. Two plus weeks later with no repair part on the horizon, I found one at Lowe's, took it to them, and finally got the unit repaired. read more

Purchased my first Toro after talking with a neighbor a few years ago. I have been very happy with it. The Self propelled walk behind has been great. Came with a 5 year complete warranty which I needed to use this month. I had issues getting my mower to start ( Within the 2 pull warranty) late last year. I wanted to beat the first pull - no start rush for service so I took it in. I asked for a check up, oil change, blade sharpening. The Mower tech found a bolt missing and saw that it had slipped inside the self propelled casing. They ended up replacing the entire Deck system for free. Now that is Customer service! They also handle Lawn-boy, Echo, etc. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. read more

Bought a brand new mower from this place and it was a nightmare. They couldn't even deliver it in good condition. Damaged, broken parts that a blind man could have picked out. Got the run around trying to get my money back! Called their store and after being on hold for 5 minutes the owner got on the line and she told me that she doesn't deal with customer's problems. Took my 2 year old poulan lawn mower in be repaired and before they even looked at it the service guy told me I should invest in a push mower! I should have known then I was in trouble. Was told it was a $40 fee to look at it and I was fine with that, but made it perfectly clear that I wanted an estimate before any work was done and it was even printed on the invoice. 9 days later I get a call telling me my mower is fixed and I owe $73. I asked why that was when it was clearly stated that I was to be called first and was told "Oh, we just went and fixed it anyway" When I picked it up told a manager the story and he couldn't care less and gave me a half hearted apology. Told them I will not be back and that and that I will report this to review sites. He walked away! Goes without saying, stay away!! read more

I personally thought that it was an honest family establishment. I lost respect for the business on how they dealt with one of their employees. A young hardworking, honest young man was "let go" under the accusation that he was "bragging" about how much he was being paid hourly. He was completely caught off guard because he had just the day before had lunch with the boss and it was discussed how well he was doing and to continue the good work. And totally didn't know how to answer or respond to the accusation. How can it be considered bragging when he was point blankly asked by a fellow employee, which he only answered innocently...ONE TIME. This was his only reference to the situation! Obliviously the person who asked him the question was equally, if not more out of line! And in my opinion, should have also been let go! Definitely NOT a loyal family business! If this is how they treat their employees, I can only imagine how they treat their customers. read more

I brought in my leaf blower that I'd purchased there because it quit working. I asked them to call with an estimate because I knew my dad could fix it for free or very cheap. I didn't go to my dad first because he was busy with a new project car. I figured if it was $20 or $30, Westenbroek could do it. Well, the only call I received was to tell me that it was done and the repair cost $60! I went in to talk about the mishap. The employee who had originally taken my blower was working and showed me right on the computer where he'd instructed to "call with estimate". He went to the owner which, by the way was the one who'd fixed it for me, to see what could be done. The owner said to charge me $60. Even though he know full well that this was an internal error, that HE the OWNER didn't bother to call a customer with an estimate as requested. Then one of the other employees asked me if I wanted to trade in my perfectly good 2 year old Stihl leaf blower that they had just repaired towards a new one. Why he thought this was appropriate is beyond me. He then told me that I could pay the $60 now and he would try to see what he can do for me. How does that make sense? How about do something before I pay for it? I know the economy has been bad for everyone but is it really good for your bottom line when you ruin a relationship with a loyal customer? I should mention that we purchased a Toro push mower, a Toro snow blower and this Stihl leaf blower all from Westenbroek. Qualifies as loyal, right? By the way, did you know the labor charge is $72 an hour? In addition to that price, they also felt the need to charge me $3.50 for a "grease rag". The problem with my blower was that there was "bad gas" in it. We've always had great luck BUYING from Westenbroek. Apparently, the trouble comes when you aren't buying something for hundreds of dollars, just need simple repair. Think about it before you shop at Westenbroek. Even if your buying, you'll get ripped off when it comes time for maintenance and repairs. Think about the $72 an hour labor charge. That's not a joke or exaggeration, $72 an hour! read more
