A general hospital that caters for a range of patients with all sorts of complaints. I have visited…read morethis hospital many times for family and friends and have found it pretty easy going. The staff are always helpful and the receptionist at the front is very efficient. There is a good cafeteria, newsagent, florist and mini bakery. Visitors don't need to go hungry here and walking between the wards is always a good exercise program. Don't catch the lifts they take forever and only fit a certain number of people. Parking is problematic if staying over a few hours. An older hospital that has been added to over the years. The shared rooms are generally 4 to a ward. If you can handle the situation of sharing with strangers, or too sick to worry then this is a good hospital.

Just have to wonder why elderly people are ALL assumed mentally incompetent because when they get…read morephysically sick they go down hill FAST sometimes and if they are hearing impaired they don't always take in what is said to them. Dad suffers from chronic kidney disease, diabetes, prone to bladder and kidney stones, has prostate cancer etc but he is a highly intelligent man. Yes, his short term memory shows deficit but he is almost 87. We were given NO choice as to where he would end up and he ended up in the wing/ ward - infamous ward 11 sharing with 3 poor souls who couldn't communicate etc and some couldn't use a bathroom etc. The sounds of distress and the smells of the ward became overwhelming. No wonder their carers stayed relatively short times with them. He used full private health insurance. He wasn't expecting to be treated like royalty - unlike the seemingly contrasted treatment to the fellow across the hall in a private room. Dad has made me PROMISE to never ever go there ever again and he feels SO strongly I had to try but nearest private hospitals don't have emergency departments? I wouldn't agree to be admitted there either. Try RPA or Sydney City hospital, if you can.

What can I say? No one 'wants' to be in hospital but…read more..... Where to start...parking. Yes there is parking. Yes you pay for the privilege to park, and they are not shy about their fees! At least they have a garage so that's something. Just my opinion but, the parking needs to be improved. A lot. Getting in and out of the car park is akin to a juggling act on a trapeze. Terrible and dangerous and whoever designed it should be ashamed......as should the powers that be that approved it. The fees are exorbitant, in my opinion, so if you're on a tight budget, think twice. *This is my only complaint thus, deducted 1star. The public and private facilities are adjacent to each other even though your gps might show you two separate addresses. I don't want to sound like I'm gushing here but, as hospital experiences go, this was excellent! Really! The lobby and reception areas are clean, bright and friendly staff. The day surgery waiting area is light, has chair seating and usually runs like a well oiled machine. Friendly staff members understand you're there for a procedure and probably nervous...and they are friendly and smiling and make it a little better, as smiles do! Once ready for procedure, while it can be redundant they asked several times pertinent questions, which was great because I had concerns that they helped to alleviate somewhat. Fast forward to an overnight recovery and the nurses are incredible, friendly and caring. 'My' nurses included Michelle and DJ. To be honest, they deserve kudos on every level! The food was better than hospital food, better than airplane food and I want to give credit where credit is due....but don't expect it to be 5star restaurant quality because you'll be disappointed. All in all, as hospital stays go, St Vincent's is really wonderful! Runs like a well oiled machine, clean and beautiful, and more importantly to me, excellent staff members, non-medical and medical. If they can improve anything, it would be the car park.
