In the end, we picked All 'Bout Children for their Outdoor Classroom Certification, bilingual curriculum, and partnership with Burleigh Elementary to provide before and after school care (he doesn't need it yet, but glad to know its an option). In the end, we have not been disappointed! The teaching staff is genuinely caring and engaged with the little guy's development. Not only do they take the time to answer all our questions (patiently), but we get daily updates in real-time on potties, feedings, and various other milestones - but the best part is they provide pictures almost daily which is a great treat when I'm at work thinking about him :) Their spots fill up quickly, but if you are looking for a new daycare, I recommend taking a tour.

That being said, I did my homework beforehand and read up on their state survey results, which didn't identify anything I would consider to be major. www.dcf.wisconsin.gov is an excellent resource to check providers out. I had basic requirements in my mind to keep my daughter at the center and they are consistently met. I am notified of changes of conditions in my daughter (ie rash, fever). Her diaper is changed about every two hours at a minimum. The staff offer suggestions to us based on what they observe in her. One example is identifying that she may have ruflux when we didn't see those symptoms as prevalently at home. Turned out to be an accurate assessment. There are the same two providers in the infant room all week, which is a huge plus for me. They have ample toys and activity centers to keep her occupied. The infant room has a separate area for cribs, divided by a half-wall partition. I would have preferred a more separate sleeping area, but she still gets good chunks of sleep there. It is definitely not in the same caliber as, say a Mary Linsmeier center, but my daughter is well cared for and given individual attention by two caring staff members. That is what is most important of anything. The reasonable cost is great, but I wouldn't keep her there unless I was happy.

Of course like in any daycare with two year olds you get the occasional biting incident and not only has my daughter been the victim but also the instigator and they did a great job of notifying me and keeping a close eye. You don't want your children being watched after by immature people that cannot control their anger and show no problem solving skills. Recently I had went to play basketball and he entered the gym, and told us something in a very quiet tone that we could not hear, so we did not react. He paused and without warning or prior reminder, exploded suddenly and screamed "DIDNT YOU HEAR ME? GET OUT" which was completely unprecended and uncalled for. Just today I went and waited an entire hour for the upstairs gym to open, which it said it would at 7. My two brothers were in there (to which I am the oldest of) and I went towards there with my two friends, he saw us heading towards the gym and yelled at us "that gym isnt open" to which we asked why, he then responded "its not open its family gym" in a harsh overbearing tone. This was a bit unprofessional coming from an older man towards a college student, especially considering I had not had any prior conversation with him. Since my two brothers were in there we headed in anyway and began to play. A few minutes later he came into the gym and yelled at us "DONT YOU KNOW HOW TO LISTEN? THIS GYM ISNT OPEN" even though the only people in the gym were my friends, my two brothers, and a young girl. Me and my friends got up to leave but we noticed he didnt tell my brothers to leave, which confused us considering they were with us. We then asked him the specifics of the "family gym" as the definition of a "family" is not listed anywhere, to which he responded that me and my two brothers were "not family". After this we left, and I do not know if we will keep our memberships. This man has been incredibly unprofessional and extremely hostile towards specifically me and people that look similar to me, and I cannot in good judgement recommend this organization to anybody that reads this.

As a parent, choosing a daycare is such a stressful endeavor. Finding a high quality place with…read morecaring and knowledgeable teachers that is in the right location and is in your budget is next to impossible. Luckily after touring 4 different daycare facilities around Wauwatosa (where I live) and Muskgeo (where I work), we found Grandma's house. A huge plus is that the center is a 3 minute drive and less than 15 minute walk from our house. Also, we love V's teachers- They have made the transition to daycare so much easier, trusting that they are providing lots of opportunities for playing, learning and interacting with others. Grandma's house does family style homemade meals and they try to keep the center very clean (constant handwashing and parents must wear blue booties over their shoes when they enter). They're also very willing to go with the flow with their schedule. Rather than having exact start and end times for activities, they adjust the start and end times to fit with how the day is going. The kids nap at different times depending on their need for the day, which then allows for kids to have more one on one time while other kids nap. The only thing that is challenging for my family and this center is the cost. I think they provide financial assistance for families in great need, which we are not. But we're kind of at the edge, where this is a bit more than we can really budget, but can't imagine settling for less. However, I won't take off a star for this, because they are willing to let teachers or others who only work part of the year, take off during the summer at no penalty. This keeps her attendance there within our financial ability. Overall, we are very pleased so far. If you're searching for a daycare nearby here, make this one stop on your list!

Having such great teachers has made the transition so much easier since we feel like our daughter is happy and most importantly, safe and well-cared for. The teachers never take the easy way out when it comes to her care. Instead, they take the time to ask questions and talk with us about our preferences for things like feeding, naps, etc. to ensure that they are doing things the way we are most comfortable with. But, they are still full of good tips when we ask for them! Learning Edge has been great for our daughter so far as it has helped her get in to a routine and to become more socialized. We can see that the staff generally care for her and are happy to see her at the start of each day, which goes a LONG way every time we drop her off. Plus, they have other great little touches: -An app that tracks her naps, feedings, and diaper changes along with pictures and videos -they do laundry once per week so I don't have to take her swaddle and blanket home -they put up family pictures in the room -they have an indoor play area for older kids in case the weather is not nice enough to go outside -they put out coffee and granola bars for parents in the morning, they have extra supplies like spoons and bibs in case we forget -they provide snacks and lunches for older children
