This was one that I discovered while looking for a place to grab some breakfast (and having a little bit of bad luck with others either only doing coffee, or being shut). I ended up having the Kleiner Frankfurt Frustuck (of the small Frankfurt Breakfast, but since the name of the meal was in German I should use the German, not that I can actually used all the letters that the German uses). It was interesting - a brotwurst, a bagel, and some mustard, which was interesting because to me mustard is not something that I usually put on my breakfast. Still, when in Germany ... Oh, I should also mention that the staff were really nice, and also true to form in Germany cash is king.

Freshly baked cakes and tarts, done on the premises - usually a selection of at least 10, and done to perfection, with amazing presentation. Don't know who their pastry chef is, but the person deserves an award! Coffees, teas and so on in all varieties, and served perfectly. Friendly staff, and a nice modern edge to the whole thing in terms of decor, and small touches, like free 'parfum' in the bathrooms from a one-off Italian boutique round the corner. A real asset for Mainz, and a must for visitors who want to see what all the fuss around German cakes is about - this place will answer that!

I came here to grab a coffee before catching a train to Mainz and I'm not entirely sure whether it…read morewas the fact that my German is really bad, or whether the guy that made the coffee really doesn't know how to make a coffee, but the coffee was really bad. Well, it was worse than bad because I had ordered an Americano and all I got was basically an espresso in a really big cup. Okay, maybe this place is more for bread products than coffee, but after my experience with the coffee I'm not all that keen to try any of their bread products. Oh, and the customer service wasn't all that fantastic either.

I live in the neighborhood and have always wandered why this place is always so packed on weekends…read more After being there, I can say it probably has to do with their rich selection of decadent cakes and sweets, or the large number of tea options, or their mokkas, which do look pretty tasty. In addition, their seats are cozy and the service is friendly and nice. I will be back and recommend it if you are in the area and looking for a warm tea and some sweets, but not feeling like going for the 100th time to wackers (mainly for coffee) or baguette Jeanette (for bread/pastries). Btw, I did pay with card.

They can do table service if you dine in but you can also just order and pay at the counter. It seems very popular with the hipster crowd but based on my experience it can be a welcoming place for anyone. The two baristas were both cheerful and patient with my not-good German. The menu is very vegan friendly - there are vegan options for sandwiches and baked goods, and there's oat milk for drinks. I got a Blumenkohl panini, a Mandelkuchen, and a Chai Latte. I was a fan of the panini, the smashed cauliflower in was actually very flavourful with curry-esque spices. No complaints on the latte. The Mandelkuchen fell short of my expectations, I thought it was on the dry side, although the strong almond flavour was nice. If I had been able to see a cross section of this before I ordered, I would've gotten something else - the cake hadn't been cut into yet when I ordered. The other cake slices looked better. Everything is priced reasonably - my total was about €14. It's the kind of place I'd probably go to all the time if I lived here.

I had already marked this place off as a place to grab something to eat, however it quickly turned out that they don't do breakfast - it is basically a coffee shop that has some cakes but that is about it. The other problem is that it is located on the fringes of the city. Still, it is a nice cafe, and there is a really cool church nearby as well. Oh, and the staff, and coffee, were nice as well.

Secondly, the food. THE FOOOOOOOD. Their carrot cake is so moist and juicy that I could die right after eating it and die a happy person. They offer cute little to-go boxes for those not interested in dining inside or are on the go, as well. Annabatterie offers a variety of baked goods as well as small eats, coffee and tea, and even some alcoholic beverages. They also offer patrons a nice outdoor area, weather permitting. It is nice finding places like this in Mainz's neustadt and not littered with tourists in the old city. Either way, this place would make a killing. But it just fits better on a quiet street in the heart of a residential area. I am often in Mainz and this is my go-to place. I hope you get a chance to check it out.

It's rare to find anything open in Munich this early and it's nice to know there is an option like this in the city of Frankfurt :-)
