PSA to other budget photographers. Do not buy used lenses from Dons Photo in Regina…read more September 2023 I purchased a used Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 lens for $850. All was good, or so I thought. I wanted to upgrade to a new lens so I went to Dons yesterday to trade in the Sigma to get some $$ taken off the cost of the new lens. I set the Sigma lens on the counter and the guy tells me, "ahhh I think I can only give you 50-100 bucks for this lens" You should have seen his face when I said "Excuse me, I just paid $850 for this last year" He replies with "You paid $850 for this? In a tone that meant I shouldn't have paid that much for it. The funny thing is, HE is the one who sold it to me last year. I was expecting like $300-$400, but $50-$100??? You have got to be kidding me. That's a slap in my face. You can't tell me that the tech changes that fast, when the lens is already 10 years old. This means you f*@ked up and sold it for more then you should have. I would like to know how much they low balled the poor guy that brought in the lens before me. My guess is, they gave him 3-400 and they listed it for 850. How much would they have turned around and sold it for if I took the pennies they were offering to me?? Shop local they say.
