Some friends who lived in Frankfurt for a couple of years told us it was an absolute MUST to spend a day out in the wine country where the Trocken (dry) Riesling originated. We should have spend multiple days out here. Not only is it extremely beautiful and peaceful, but the wines are all incredible! We stopped into 4 wineries for tastings throughout the day - Weingut Spreitzer was our favorite. We were directed here after a delightful tasting at Weingut Balthasar Ress. I would highly recommend you make BOTH of these wineries a high priority to visit. There was so much space in their renovated tasting room and we tried all of their dry whites. The only thing more comforting than their furniture was the people that work here. They clearly have a passion and love for what they do that shines through in the quality of their wines. Cheers!

Cooking for 40-50 people is no easy task and getting it out together is hard. The pork was overdone and we would have preferred something other than French fries the cheese cake for desert was dry as well. The wine that was served was local, and we enjoyed a riesling. It was quite good. They had live music and encouraged audience participation and a great amount of fun was to be found if one wanted to join in. It might have been annoying to the other guests, but we had fun. I would like to have the opportunity to try other dishes, as looking at the other diners meals, they looked good. I don't think we will ever find the opportunity to return, and don't base your dining choice on this review. I think that they are a fine restaurant and handled a large crowd very well, along with the other diners that were there.

I was in town for a few hours while heading up the Rhine, and we walked around until we found this place. It was later in the evening and there weren't a lot of people around, so we grabbed one of the outdoor tables and waited for our server. And waited... and waited. Finally he popped out like he was walking to the other side and, realizing we were there, swung around to come help us. I ordered the coffee and my friends ordered beer and wine. Service was a little slow and he also made a comment about making "tons" of Rüdesheim coffee's a day, and that he was happy that mine would be the last one of the evening.

And all these decisions in very limited timeframes whilst on busy vacations. RheinWeinWelt addresses these problems with a GREAT wine tasting concept. It has about 8-10 rooms featuring more than 100(!) winemakers of the nearby Rhinegau region, all with excellent signage explaining the winemakers, terroir, and individual wines. €1 gets you a tokens to taste a wine - simply circulate through these rooms and try any wine that piques your interest. We got a €20 pack of tokens and we walked out very happy (and well-informed!). Our favorites were Pinot noirs from the Assmanshausen region. We also appreciated the excellent hospitality here! There is an on-site shop to buy other goodies, snacks, souvenirs, and bottles - as well as a small cafe serving food and drink. This place is 100% on my list for when we return to Rudesheim!

Tim, the tasting room guide, walked us through what they had available for wine, and what we could taste. There's no charge for tastings - they are trying to help you find the right wine/fit - and you can purchase bottles from there. If debating at all what to try - the sparkling Riesling was one of our favorites - and totally unique. Well worth the stop - we left with several wines - highly recommend.

We arrived on a random Saturday looking for a wine tasting and met his partner who called him up from an errand he had been on. He promptly returned, welcomed us into his home, and sampled wine with us for about an hour. It was great to sit around a large table and talk about everything from where we are from to culture shocks and politics. We sampled many wines and then decided to purchase a case or so. We were then offered a little tour of the wine making facilities. 100% recommend this place! The wine is fabulous and the atmosphere is quaint. That $18 glass pretty much changed my life and I've scoured the online wine auction community ever since, occasionally snagging a bottle here and there, but not having much luck. This past summer, my husband and I had to be in England for his brother's wedding. Since we never officially took an actual honeymoon, we figured we'd jet off to Germany for a week afterward on our first "real" vacation together. In all honesty, the existence of Baumann was a prime factor in that decision. So one sunny Wednesday, we jammed ourselves into our little rental SLK (ha ha, "mietwagen") and drove from our pad in Frankfurt down to Albig, finally arriving at my mecca. Good thing we got a late start, because we arrived exactly at opening time. But nobody seemed to be there....I guess picking a Wednesday for a wine tasting in the German back-country is a bit of a planning mistake. I may or may not have panicked a little bit. But Herr Baumann had noticed us pull in, so he came out to greet us. Unfortunately, my husband's German is pretty awful (he thought he'd have retained more from high school but NOPE). My shitty Italian was no help. And Herr Baumann doesn't speak a word of English. So it was a bit challenging to say the least! We were able to establish that we were interested in wine tasting however, so he escorted us into the tasting room and grabbed a couple bottles from the wine fridge. My husband made a valiant attempt to explain our mission, and Herr Baumann did an impressive job of working with it. Unfortunately it doesn't seem that they keep a library of older wines on hand (or at least not for sale to the public), so buying the Wine That Changed My Life from the source wasn't gonna happen. But Herr Baumann poured us a mind-blowing sparkling wine (Spatburgunder weissherbst), a Faberrebe, and a late-harvest Faberrebe. They were all absolutely amazing. We told him we'd like to buy a bottle of each (we'd have sprung for a couple cases if we didn't have the stupid TSA to deal with on the way home) and unbelievably, he charged us only 20 euros. TOTAL. Holy crap. On our way out, my husband somehow pieced together enough broken German to inform Herr Baumann that we'd come all the way from the U.S. specifically to find his winery. Upon learning this, he motioned for us to follow him....and we ended up getting a tour of the production area which was awesome to see. Following that, he then directed us to his beat-up old Vanagon and took us on a fun bumpy ride up into the actual vineyards. We stopped at the top of a hill where there's a little stone gazebo overlooking MILES of gorgeous vine-covered countryside. Along the way up and back, he pointed out the different sections of vineyard and which grapes are grown where (the translation of this info wasn't that difficult). Herr Baumann made a huge effort for us despite the language barrier and it was such a great experience. The grounds are beautiful and the wines here are unparalleled. We will definitely come back again someday. I bought my husband some learn-German-in-your-car CDs and goddammit we'll make it happen! In the meantime, I'm harassing all my friends in the wine industry to find a way to get this stuff on the menu....

First the name means it will be pricier than most, and that was OK as the quality delivered to what I paid. I went with the gravlax sandwich and truffles potato chips. As a bonus, I was given a couple of smoked salmon belly to sample. All were quite delicious. And for good measure, a house glass of rosé was also needed. The staff were super friendly and I can see why they try to up-sell the products. If you are looking for a more refined meal choice and great booze, here's the place for you. I'll be back.

The Riesling is the best I've had and every opportunity I have to pick up a few bottles, I take. In the summer, their fruit wines make a great after-dinner treat...particularly the peach offering. I'm quite confident we'll be tasting plenty more of Helga May's offerings, for research purposes of course.
