Our second Christmas market was hands-down the best market we visited in Berlin. It's a bit of a trek to get to, but we did get to walk around and see some of the streets of the city, and I imagine we could have taken the U-Bahn to get here quicker. But we arrived.
This market is in an old department store (or something like that). And I think I may be becoming a hipster, as this market was definitely alternative and hip, and I really enjoyed it. We did have to queue for a bit to get inside, and the cover charge is 3.50 Euros, but it's definitely worth it. Because it's indoors, you don't have to deal with people blowing cigarette smoke in your face. And it also had more interesting shops than any of the markets we went to. We found all of our gifts here.
There are two floors of stalls, and the first floor also has a huge area for food (including one with truffle pasta and it smelled amazing). There are also several interesting shops. Upstairs, there are many more shops and also a bar area to rest and have some Gluhwein when you're feeling tired (and the wine was pretty good here as well).
It's crowded, but you still feel like you have space to move around. There's a dj playing music, and the whole thing almost feels like a nightclub. For Christmas shopping.
The only slight problem was that the floor was REALLY uneven, so if you weren't watching where you were going, you could stumble a bit, but that's only a small defect given the awesomeness of the whole market. read more
