Dobbelare Distributing - Owner Scott

Dobbelare Distributing

Nice people running a very nice small business. I hired them to clean out my garden beds and put…read moredown mulch. They absolutely exceeded my expectations. Shrubs were also carefully trimmed up and my hellebore was cleaned up which required careful pruning with small hand sheers because they were already blooming. The mulch is finely ground and very dark and was laid down generously where needed and more thinly where last year's mulch was still pretty thick. Steve was working with a crew of about 8 men and they were serious about working efficiently and carefully. They did the same work at the same time for my neighbor across the street. Steve answered every question and was careful to tell me if he didn't know the answer. I would definitely hire again.

Last January Scott Dobbelare stopped by my house and asked me if I needed firewood and I told him I…read moredid not. He pointed out two trees in my backyard and said he would prune and trim them for $650.00. I agreed and I paid him before I realized that only about six small branches about two inches in diameter were cut. When I called Scott to complain he said that due to the high price of gasoline he could not come out to look at the trees. I never did hear back from him. Buyer beware. On another occasion I purchased one full cord of firewood from Dobbelare. My wood shed is exactly 128 cubic feet (one full cord) when the logs are stacked on top of each other. Scott's worker stacked the logs in squares with a hollow hole in the center, meaning I was not getting a full cord of wood. When I asked the worker about the discrepancy he said they stack it that way so the ends hold up the middle. I told him the woodshed has a back, a roof, and two sides that provide support. Not totally honest.

Dex's Tree Service - Trimmed bush - notice one side of it was cut back too far

Dex's Tree Service

Dex is our go-to service for all things concerning trees. We've hired them twice now. Even in tight…read moreplaces, Dex can get it done! You could leave a porcelain china service on the ground next to a tree removal, and when Dex is done, the porcelain won't be moved, cracked, broken or disturbed in any way. That's how exact they are in removing just the tree, leaving all else undisturbed. Great attention is paid to clean up, too.The crew are kind and courteous and professional. They don't leave until you're satisfied. I would never call anyone else!

We used this tree service to take down a large Sweetgum tree and bush a few months ago. Great job…read moreon the tree, average job on the bush. So, when we needed a tree trimmed and a few smaller, decorative (landscaping) trees and bushes removed, we called them again. I was out of town and a family member was present on the day they arrived. They did a decent job of removing the 3 smaller trees but a terrible job on trimming back two bushes. But the biggest transgression was when they told the family member that a large, 40 year old oak in the back yard which I had planted new, was dead and needed to be removed. It was late fall so leaves were not present to indicate a dead tree. My thought is that the little jobs weren't paying enough so they decided to "find" something to make more money. They cut down this oak, which was NOT dead, and charged a $2500 to do so! A check was given to them on the spot by the family member or I'd have refused. Takeaway? Be present when someone is working and get a second opinion (if needed) on whether a tree is dead or dying. I feel like we got played. Caveat Emptor. Below are 2 bushes they "trimmed." And don't get me started on why they didn't tell a family member that the oak pieces would make good firewood or could even be sold for furniture or wood working!
