While living there he began making plans for his funeral. He went to All Faith's Funeral Home in Grand Island and literally had everything set up. When my dad died in 2020 I had little to nothing to worry about because Dan and his staff already knew what my dad wanted. In visiting with Dan, he views his roll in the funeral industry as a ministry, and dearly loves and respects our veterans. While he may not have known my dad personally he cared for him like he was a dear close friend. He guided me through the process with care and ease it was just what I needed. My dad was to be buried 4 hours from Grand Island and Dan personally escorted my dad at body to his final resting place. If you are needing to pre plan the staff at All Faiths will help you make the right decisions that will cause you and your family to leave with a peace of mind and then when the time comes to say good-bye or celebrate a loved ones life they will honor those wishes with care, dignity and professionalism.

My grandfathers passed away recently and as you all may imagine, planning a funeral service can be very challenging and most of us are not in right mindset during the process. The team at this funeral home was absolutely wonderful and very professional. They were extremely compassionate and made sure to give us enough time and space to make these tough decision. The day of the service we had a snow storm, but no matter the weather the team at the funeral home made the necessary changes to make sure we could say goodbye and have a proper service. I am very thankful for the professionalism and for making sure we were all comfortable at all times.

Initially, we worked with funeral director Shelbi Carpenter. Putting it simply, Shelbi was stone…read morecold and an ice queen. She showed no compassion whatsoever for our loss, and basically began our meeting by inquiring about funds and looking at me and my husband as though we were expected to pay the rest. My dad had a guardian who managed his finances and limited funds. My dad only had $3500 in his funeral trust and even when we explained that to her, we got the short answer of "well, funerals cost $12,000." Even if you google the average cost, it is lower than this, so it seems this place arbitrarily sets prices of their choosing. We asked her to write us up an estimate of the costs because she was not being clear at all about anything. It is pretty apparent that she must make a commission and was trying to get as much money as possible from us by giving us the least amount of information, despite knowing this is not that type of financial situation. My dad was just another number to her, and she did not care about working with us professionally or compassionately, just wanted her $$$. She wrote us up a sheet that included things such as $330 for "printed materials." When I inquired as to what that was, she said, you know, like a guestbook. I said I could buy that on Amazon for much cheaper and received a blank stare. Ultimately, we ended up going back to the funeral home and from there on out we worked with owner Mike Butler. Working with Mike was substantially better than Shelbi, he did show compassion and caring for our loss and he was reasonable in discussing our options and working within our budget. Mike was very responsive to phone calls and my questions and also very present during the service to ensure it ran smoothly, from setting up the items i had given them to making sure music equipment was connected properly for the service. However, i cannot discount the way we were treated by Shelbi initially which cannot elevate this to more than a two-star review. Another way I know that Shelbi was seeking more money is because of the price difference in her spreadsheet vs. what Mike calculated for us for the transportation to the funeral home from Lincoln. Shelbi had this quoted about $200 higher than Mike charged, so that right there tells me there are no set prices and it must be up to the discretion of the funeral director you are working with. It makes me sad that funeral directors like Shelbi are taking advantage of people in one of their most vulnerable times of grieving and loss, and I hope this feedback is helpful in making changes to this practice. Even though working with Mike was much better, I still felt like we had to be careful with what we said as indicating there was any additional money means they will take it, and this experience should not make anyone feel like that. It should be about the family's' wishes and desires and not a money grab. No one grieving or going through loss should have to be regarded as just another body to pick up the funeral tab and treated with the lack of compassion and professionalism Shelbi afforded us.
