I've been practicing yoga for about a decade and am pretty picky about where I go...usually that…read morecomes from practice style and actual physical space...then comes available practice times. I am happy that Yoga passage exists and has a GREAT schedule for those who (like me) live outside the city but still want to get their yoga on. I am not overly fond of all of the teaching styles BUT if your practice is advanced enough you can manage your way through a lot of classes putting in modifications where necessary. I would like to be able to try something other than the 2 time periods over lunch to get a better sense of staff/practice styles here. Change rooms for women is eensy....but no one ever showers at lunch so there is never a line up for me. Isn't that weird though? Out of 2 classes of about 40 ppl of which 90% are women I am the ONLY PERSON WHO SHOWERS. Ick. Anyway, lots of space to move, classes you can make over your lunch hour.

I work downtown so I literally yelped which yoga location would be closest to my place of employment in hopes to frequent the studio after work a couple days per week. I'm so glad that Yoga passage came up in my phone -I really lucked out. The first time I showed up the staff were super friendly and helpful and I signed up for the 4 week unlimited pass for $40. Over the course of the 4 weeks I've managed to attend 8 yoga classes making this pass so worthwhile at $5 a class. The classes are packed, and everyone is so focused on bettering their practice; it's refreshing. The instructors are fantastic, I love yoga because it's a great workout but I also really enjoy the mental/spiritual side of it. I think the instructors do a great job of helping you let go of your day and really help you accept and love yourself. If you are feeling down or having a bad day you should check out a yoga class! There are so many times I don't feel like dragging my butt to yoga but I'm always so grateful that I did. Seriously you guys, this place is the best.

I absolutely love Bodhi Tree…read more It's refreshing that the instructors are really living the yogi life - they're not just some fitness instructors in a yoga studio. Each of them have a different style, but I like that they are all warm, welcoming and not snobby to newbies. They know the physiology of yoga and balance it well with non-denominational philosophy to create a space of physical and mental challenge. I truly appreciate that the teachers will push you just enough, but are very mindful that we all have personal limits. It's perfectly acceptable to ask for help or lay on your mat if you need a brief rest in a tough class. They will support you through your experience and make sure that you don't hurt yourself. It's not about who gets the perfect pose - it's about doing your personal best. I never feel pressured by anyone but my own drive. More reasons to like them: *you can buy 10 or 20 time passes, as well as monthly *you can sign in to classes online to save time *nice change rooms with showers available *beautiful, serene space After a few months of going regularly, I feel like I've become part of the family there. I most enjoy the hot yoga classes. The price is absolutely worth it.

I am very happy to update my review…read more The owner of the Bodhi Tree took the time to listen to my concerns and discuss solutions. While there is no guarantee that she can make changes to meet every students concerns, she is willing to listen and implement where possible; and is good for a sustainable business. I was blessed with an hour long conversation where she took the time to talk about the special reasons why the Bodhi Tree is as amazing as it is. I appreciated that effort and honesty. The Bodhi Tree is unique and does have the BEST teachers. Of this, there is no question. Why is that? Because of the values, ethics, and integrity of the owner and what she believes in. Sometimes we all need a little nudge out of our comfort zone. We both shared and learned a great deal; and I am positive that the Bodhi Tree will be even more amazing than ever in the coming months. I look forward to updating this review again as I see the subtle changes occur at the Tree :-)

I had an awful experience at this studio. There is a severe lack of cultural awareness, a teacher…read moreattempted to physically assist me when I did not give him consent to do so, and they have a studio-wide policy that you cannot leave any class once it has started unless it's an "emergency.". Firstly, I was very shocked to see a white appearing, female teacher, Jesse Caetano, wearing a shirt that said 'Guru' on it while teaching a class. On top of that, this studio still finishes all of their classes with the phrase 'Namaste'. Given the collective cultural awareness around the appropriation and commercialization of yoga especially in the West, it is shocking to see this type of behavior still happening in a studio. There has been an entire movement and there are many resources now available on how studios and teachers should be working towards cultural sensitivity, respect, and inclusion. This studio seems to be completely out of touch and behind on all of these important issues. Secondly, a male teacher, Darryl Brown, attempted to "adjust" me while in a balancing pose (eagle). He stepped onto my mat and tried to push me with a block in his hand from behind. I did not give him consent to touch me when he asked at the beginning of class who would like hands-on assists. Consent is a very important thing to respect in all environments, especially in the yoga studio when there's a male teacher. Lastly, I attempted to leave a class five minutes early and the same teacher who was wearing the Guru shirt, Jesse Caetano, told me " I can't let you leave the room" when I attempted to exit. Apparently, it is a studio-wide policy that no one can leave the heated yoga rooms unless it's an emergency. The owner told me this is to "keep everyone safe". It's important to note that all of their classes are heated and that this sort of policy is inherently very dangerous and limits personal autonomy as well. I would not recommend this studio, there are many great places in Calgary to practice yoga, find another studio!

I've never been a huge yoga fan because I find it a little too slow and usually I get restless and hyper, but hot yoga seems to be different. There's something about sweaty like a cow that really adds to a work-out. Not only did I love the hot yoga session, but I really enjoyed the instructor. She seemed extremely knowledgeable about every pose she was doing and wasn't afraid to walk around and correct what we were doing wrong. I felt bad that she had to touch my sweaty-ass body, but I was happy she was helping me. Now that I've conquered the yoga class, next up is dance! They offer a couple different classes so I think it would be neat to give it a try. Each of their classes, yoga included, has a weekly schedule and drop-in options. Stop by and pick up a schedule because I'm sure something will match your availability... and price range.

Luckily, my two GFs convinced me to pick up a two week unlimited drop in class pass with them and try out all the yoga classes. From restorative to relaxation, you really have your pick! Power flow taught by Nicole on Thursdays got us hooked, we've been going to Soul for the better part of a year now. Nicole also teaches the Gentle Flow on Fridays, which is a $5 drop in class and a steal of a deal if you ask me! It's a great class to try if you're new to yoga and wanna see what yoga (and the studio!) is all about. The ladies at the reception desk are super friendly and helpful, and the teachers are pretty great - I know those are the two things that keep me coming back :)

This is a huge two studio space in the southeast of Calgary, and I have actually passed this studio…read moremany times until today, I had no idea there was a yoga centre in this little strip mall. The place is so serene when you enter, partial sunlight floats in, the waiting room has huge black and white photographs of South Asian images and there seems to be tea that is available to all its visitors. The lady at the desk was extremely informative describing Bikram Yoga for me and all its assets. Seems that Bikram Yoga or Hot yoga is a series of 26 yoga postures in a heated space that is designed to bring oxygen to 100 percent of the body. The classes are 90 minutes long and the temperature is around 40 degrees, each class can hold 55 attendants but in most cases she said they have seen around 30 people in the class, which gives you more room to stretch and sweat. Other places in Calgary have seen larger populations in attendance so sometimes it can get uncomfortable when stretching an arm and perhaps touching your neighbours privies. If you are a beginner, there is a 7 day package of $30 which is approximately $4.28 a class where they let you borrow their mats and towels. All other packages have the option of renting towels and mats at one dollar a piece. Classes range from drop in to a yearly package and all seem relatively inexpensive considering I have seen this type of Yoga at super expensive rates in the United States. BY helps with blood circulation, it helps to distress, you can sleep better, your appetite regulates. On a longer term you can expect BY to get rid of aches and pains, increase your strength, flexibility and stamina. Most of all it is a fun social exercise like thing to do, which is intense but is incredibly humbling. I would highly recommend this space to any Yoga enthusiasts out there.

A wonderful Studio…read more I've been practicing Bikram Yoga for a number of years, and I've tried to go to studios where ever I travel to. The Calgary South studio is a wonderful space to practice. First off, when you walk through the doors you have a large area to remove your footwear, customary for most yoga studios. The front desk staff are very pleasant and in most cases the instructors are there to greet you as well. There is a large merchandise area, everything from mats, to clothing, to water bottles and various other trinkets. There are two rooms, and both are well lit and ventilated. They use a product called flotex for the flooring. Any studio that I've practiced in that uses this flooring (and that if maintained), there is virtually no smell to it. So no stinky rooms ! The instructors I've had, have all been very good. They know their script/dialog and have good timing and pace throughout the class. Most of them have made comments to me after class. Helping me with corrections, or things that they noticed. This is quite impressive considering the number of students in the room for some of the classes. Some of the classes can be full, so obviously its a good idea to get there early. Arriving 2 minutes before class may net you a less than desirable spot in the room. There is even a small freezer with frozen treats for after class. A nice touch, although I've never indulged. There is plenty of free parking, as the studio is part of strip mall. Overall I like the studio, its instructors and the rooms. Even though I don't live in Calgary and I'm only traveling there to work. I decided to by a class pass. Needless to say, I'll be going back !
