I'm 6 weeks away from finishing my degree at Webster University, so it's fitting that I take the time to reflect on my experiences and Yelp about it. I returned to school with financial assistance from my employer. I chose Webster due to it's location and reputation. Of all the colleges I've attended (SLU, Meramec, Oklahoma State), I enjoy and value my experiences at Webster above the rest. The classes are small enough not to feel lost. The teachers stay available outside or after class. The students as a whole aren't pretentious. The campus is nice and small enough to walk. And I enjoy the addition of the study abroad program... not that I've visited other campuses, but the international diversity at the home campus is nice. The university does a good job of accommodating full time students as well as those taking classes while holding a job (like myself). On a down side, Webster is kind of expensive. $1,600 per 3 credit class plus books. However, the financial aid I receive makes it much more affordable. read more

Webster University is my alma mater, and I am still in love with it. The Computer Science and Mass Communications departments are fantastic. Oh, and did I mention that a recent graduate of the Music Department has been voted the top new Opera talent in the country? If you are looking for a great university where you can make some real connections then check out Webster. The University features small class sizes which are typically under fifteen students. There is a parking garage that never seems to get full, and you can easily walk the entire campus in just a few minutes. If you want that real college experience, I do recommend living on campus as otherwise you'll likely miss out on a lot due to poor campus communication. read more

I am a long time student (4 plus years) of Webster; brick and mortar and online. I'm very disappointed. I enrolled in online classes for the freedom of a self paced curriculum. Now they are implementing mandatory asynchronous classes to the online curriculum. Mandatory Saturday morning classes on Zoom is not why students sign up for the online experience. I travel a lot and need the freedom to participate at my own pace. It doesn't even mention mandatory Zoom classes in the handbook for online classes. People are just going Zoom crazy since the COVID 19 pandemic. In addition I pay way more tuition for this online school and every semester I'm given a reading list and links to YouTube videos. I've only had one online teacher that taught on the videos posted throughout the modules. It's just disappointing that random teachers on YouTube are teaching our Graduate level stuff. If YouTube fails the curriculum will fall apart. All I'm saying is that I'm paying good money... teach! Post videos and teach through out the modules. #WebsterYouTube read more

I really enjoyed going to Webster as both an undergraduate and graduate. The campus is rather small, and allows for more social connections, smaller class sizes, and a much easier walk across campus. The property (especially the beloved Pearson House for English majors) is made up of beautiful old homes transformed into University buildings mixed among more modern construction (such as the new library). For undergrad, my advisor's office was in the attic of one of these homes, which felt exactly like a cozy corner of Ron Weasley's house. I've also taken courses at other colleges and always found that Webster was the most organized and helpful on the phone. Their main line can direct you to any department immediately. I think that's the advantage of a small private university. Webster is also home to The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis ("The Rep"), which acts as the region's premier, professional live theater. read more

I attended the Greenville, SC campus but since this is pretty much where the reviews are, I'll post here. I received my B.A. in Management from Webster U. this year and I'm happy to say that it was worth the experience. If not for the university accepting all of my transfer credit, I couldn't have graduated as early as I did. Webster definitely helped me achieve my goals. As far as the professors, I had really good ones and a couple of mediocre ones but that's about par for the course in any educational institution. I keep in touch with a lot of my former professors. In fact, one of them wrote a recommendation letter to support my application to Clemson University's MBA program. Needless to say, I got in! Webster University was one of the best decisions I've made for my undergraduate education. While there were a lot of state schools offering a night program for working professionals, I chose Webster because of the personal attention each student receives while attending. I graduated from Webster in 2005. I attended the Irvine campus and really miss it. The instructors were great (only had one jerk instructor), Your final grade consisted of class participation, written assignments, and presentations. All work is done individually and not in groups (Like Univ of Phoenix). The teachers were always available before and after class when I had questions. All of the teachers were Doctor's and highly successful, a few of my teachers worked at fortune 500 companies and some had their own successful companies. I recall thinking when listening to lectures "Am I learning too much"? Most importantly, Webster prepared me for the business world ie, understanding every aspect of business, how to have a business discussion, negotiations, communication with all lines of business and so much more. You are paying for a piece of paper, not an education. Well before covid they started only doing webnet and virtual at the St Pete, Fl location. Professors are working multiple school and getting things mixed up. It's a business not a learning facility. I also attended the Orlando campus where the professors and admin were great. I have a lot to say about this place and none of it is very good. I attended Webster for one semester and it was the absolute worst experience of my life. I've never met such rude, compassionless teachers in my life. There is one professor I can think of who was genuinely kind and good hearted, Dr. Patterson-the choir director. However, I did not have him for my professor. I had the director of the women's choir at the time in 2015 and she was an absolute headache. I broke my leg about 2 weeks into my freshman year and had to have intense surgery to put my leg back together. The music department is NOT handicap friendly, the campus isn't either, to be honest. I vividly remember asking someone who drives a gold cart if I could have a ride to my dorm as the crutches were causing rashes under my arm. I got a firm no as the injury hadn't just happened. Disgusted. I had a long recovery and the whole time I was recovering, I was constantly receiving emails about my late work. How they were, "concerned," that I might be falling behind. I received a phone call from an extremely rude admissions professor about my theatre teacher asking when I'd be returning to class because she was worried about me falling behind. In addition to this, I was receiving messages from the rude choir director about needing to keep up with my music for her class, meanwhile, I am unable to make it into the practice rooms due to there being no elevator. My voice teacher at the time kept asking me the same questions about my music, if I'd stopped taking my pain pills, and even went as far to mention that she thought I'd need some therapy. Excuse me? She is a MUSIC professor. The ONLY good experience from this are some friends I made. That is it. I have absolutely nothing good to say about this college excluding the feeling of pure joy as I watched it disappear in my rear view mirror while leaving to begin my wonderful life in MN. I attended college for the same thing in Minnesota, made tremendous friends and lifelong mentors with my professors. To this day, the still guide me. I received straight As in my classes and loved every minute of it. You couldn't pay me to set foot on the Webster campus again. read more

I transferred to Webster University from a state school and it was the best decision of my life! Tuition is not cheap, but it's worth every dollar! The faculty is amazing, the campus is beautiful, and the library is like a second home to me. The library has great resources and is open 24 hours. You feel safe on campus (which is important). They are always giving away free lunch, which is a plus in all college students' eyes! The food is good, for college food, and they accommodate all people, including vegetarians. The university is known worldwide, with beautiful campuses in a number of different countries. Webster University was one of the greatest decisions I've made in life. read more

I attended the St. Louis home campus from Fall 2007 to Fall 2011. Pros: * Smaller class sizes * Professors - A select few professors had a major impact on my learning experience at Webster. They were the ones that did not give As freely, and you had to work hard to earn their approval and respect. There are not many of these professors left. * The Ampersand - The student-produced magazine is a great class to take to dive into the world of editorial work. * The Journal - Fast-paced, grueling hours learning how to produce a weekly newspaper, whether being a photographer, writer, designer, advertiser or editor. * Study Abroad Programs - There are a lot of expensive options to study abroad, as well as short-term programs. These are great opportunities if you have the funds. I took a short-term program to Italy in 2010, but I feel like the school could have better prepared the students on what to expect or how to get to the initial arrival area for the short-term programs. Cons: * Classrooms - Small, outdated and hot classrooms (some classes were held at the high school across the street - not so much the college experience). One class I took had such a small classroom there were not enough chairs for all the students. If you arrived later to the class than the other 24 students, you were one of 2 students standing or sitting against the wall the whole class. * PARKING - As a commuter while I attended Webster the parking was dreadful with hardly any spaces even in the parking garage. * Bathrooms - The bathrooms are extremely outdated and will give you flashbacks to the days of middle school and high school bathroom breaks - awful sharpie graffiti included in certain areas. * Professors - Some of the professors did not genuinely care about their class or their students. One of my business professors (a lawyer) would not show up to class and had his assistant from his firm teach for him some weeks. * Price - Take your general education classes elsewhere (community college) and transfer to save yourself a lot of money. Some of the teachers at Webster actually teach at a few of the community colleges around St. Louis. My education ended up costing around $90k, and that was being a commuter the whole time. * Handicap Accessible - Webster IS NOT handicap-friendly. In 2009 I was in a wheelchair for a few months, and trying to get around campus was dreadful. The automatic doors to the University Center would close in on me when I was trying to wheel though them (nothing like getting repeatedly slammed by doors). The ramps from the parking lot up to the Quad are so steep you need assistance to reach the top. The elevators in the Communications building were difficult to get into with how narrow they are (and I am not a large person). I feel like Webster really needs to address this issue. * Classes - Classes could be canceled last-minute for the semester, and even if you had purchased your books for that class, the books could not be returned to the bookstore... Incredibly frustrating. Other classes were a waste of time and money. I took a weekend Dreamweaver course only to be told by the professor that he did not really know much about Dreamweaver and you should take this other class with another professor. Not ideal. Not worth what I paid for the class. I also had a class where a guest speaker told everyone in our program that we should drop out and invest the money we would spend on classes and a fancy piece of paper on ourselves and equipment instead. He told us to learn what we can about our field by actually going out and doing it. Learn by trial and error. Don't accumulate debt trying to get into the creative field when you can invest in yourself and your career instead. I should have listened... read more

The school does indeed have smaller sized classes. I graduated from there with an art degree. The faculty are awesome people and will really help out with your field, but there is very little professional practice as a student. The focus is on making work and experimenting, but you are left not knowing what to do once you have graduated with a whole lot of work and no idea where to go from there. There is absolutely no network between university and non-university working professionals. There are little to no opportunities to meet or connect with people or companies unless you are in graphic design which has internships and companies that come to review your work (I am strictly talking about the art program). The rest of Webster's departments are highly disorganized. It takes forever to figure out which office can help you after all, and what is going on with problems you might be having like financial aid, etc. Their biggest problem is that they are slow about everything. Things take forever to get fixed or updated. I am giving it three stars because it IS an okay school. It is not terrible and it is not excellent. I got a lot out of it for my art making but outside of that, I didn't get anything else. The faculty once again was made up of great people but that is the extent of "professionals" I met. I graduated still not having any sort of network in the art community through my university. Anybody I know and have met is on my own terms by myself which had nothing to with going to the university. Kind of disappointing. The whole point of going to college, especially for something like art, was purely networking and getting one foot in the door so to speak. That was the one thing that did not happen. read more

I've been going here part-time since 2005 majoring in media communications. It's a really great school, I'm just a tad bit disappointed they had no accelerated program for it. I also had a tough time with the academic advising counselors they assigned me not giving me the correct information and they are pretty stingent on needing two different evaluations before you can graduate. Overall it is a great school but just beware of those issues if they arise! read more

Two directors were fired during the end of my master's program and my financial aid was a complete mess. I've been trying to resolve it for two years. They responded with condescending emails, lies or just ignoring me completely. They've got some great instructors but administration is crooked and disgusting. This school is amazing, with great perks and parking to boot. The only thing that peeves me off is that there writing center is terrible. You can only book two hours a week!! What graduate student is that helping? It can't even be two consecutive hours, with one person, in one day. You have to split up that days. Just terrible! read more

I attend both online and classroom learning at Webster University as a Masters degree candidate. While the professors are great the online portion of the institution is horrible. Their online class room format is outdated. The way in which the e-mail system is set up makes absolutely no sense at all. The IT help desk is not 24/7 and the IT page has more information on what Webster is selling than helping the students. I feel bad for the professors because Webster administration can't get their online program together. If I knew their system was stuck in the late 90's I would have started my Masters program at a different school. Other then that the professors are great but their infrastructure to teach online makes them less than a tier 3 school. read more

I can't speak for all programs, but the website development program is an absolute joke. Do not waste your money and time here - it's a scam. Incompetent teachers, some who barely speak English, and all of the classes are online, which makes for a poor learning environment. If you don't have experience with computers then you will be completely lost, and the teachers won't / can't help you. I found myself learning more just by asking questions on StackOverflow. Also the program is about 10 years in the past - doesn't teach you about hosting, responsive design, or how to use a content management system. No real world application. Please do yourself a favor and go somewhere else for website development - St Charles CC and Ranken have much better programs with in-person classes. read more

I spent a glorious five years at this campus and I miss it terribly. The school's student body is relatively small and the largest class I've ever had was 25 students. The relationships I've developed with a majority of my instructors let us become friends and wishing each other a happy birthday (and surprising one of them with a sombrero and cake). The campus is tiny so you're able to walk anywhere in about 7 minutes and parking on an actual lot and the garage can be challenging, you can find spots if you can predict the flow of classes. I was a photography major with the school of communications (not to be confused with the photo major available in the art department) and my education was really phenomenal. It's incredibly well-rounded: if you know nothing about the basics of photography, you will learn. If you knew your way around a camera, your instructors can challenge your image quality. The Photo I and Photo II courses give you themes to shoot around, so you have the ability to exercise yourself artistically. Photo Science and Photo Journalism challenge you technically. Photo students typically follow one of two paths beginning their junior year: commercial photography or photojournalism. Both offer fantastic electives and trips around the country and abroad. The final capstone to the photography program is Professional Development. Here you'll learn about the industry, how to become a professional, copyright and other legal issues and creating your own photography company. I have a friend who just one year out of college, owns a small and successful photography company (LAM Photography). In about thirty or so years, after what will hopefully be a very successful career, I hope to return to Webster as a teacher so I can share my experience. read more

Just finished my MBA. As a military finance officer, the course instruction, discussions, and simulations were all pertinent and immediately applicable to what I do everyday. Hopefully the business school attains the AACSB accreditation soon (in addition to the ACBSP which it already has) so it can solidify its reputation among business schools. read more

My Niece Ashley is a first year student at Webster and a soccer player as well. Our family was able to help get her settled in for the 2015-16 school year. She was meet at the check in area by her soccer coach first of all. She was introduced to her dorm RA and we were all made to feel so welcomed. I decided to attend Webster university to obtain my teaching certification/BA degree in 2007. I thought that since it was a smaller campus I would receive more one on one attention from instructors,financial aide and advisors. Needless to say I was wrong. The advising department is awful. Every year I was informed I needed more classes that were just added to the program (I graduated from Webster with over 180 credit hours and $65,000.00 of debt). Every semester I did what my advisors told me I needed to do because I wanted my education badly. I finally graduated in spring of 2012 and received no assistance in finding a job, zero training on what to expect at job interviews, and an empty dream of getting a job. I would take any job a school offered me. I feel like the school as a whole (educators, advisors, etc..) could care less about the success of their students. It's really sad that I left with such a bitter taste in my mouth. I will not attend Webster university for my master's degree. Not worth my time, headache, stress, or money. read more

I wish I had never gone to this college. Classes were cancelled last minute after they were paid for and books were bought multiple times. I was a Legal Studies major, and the classes themselves in this department are severely lacking any substance. Every single class, a professor droned on and quoted, verbatim, a PowerPoint presentation. I learned virtually nothing; I felt that I paid for the privilege of getting a paper degree but did not get any real knowledge. The Legal Studies academic office is so disorganized and nobody there can do anything to help you if you have an issue. I was supposed to have a certain number of core classes that I was required to take before graduating, but three of those classes were either cancelled multiple times due to low enrollment, or they were offered at the same time as each other so I could only take one at a time. Webster's solution to this was for me to substitute a non-legal course for one of these important legal courses, leaving me with no ability to learn that class material. To rub salt in the wounds, some incompetent person decided it would be a great idea to hold a graduation ceremony at an outdoor venue with no inclement weather plans. I had to sit in the rain for hours with no umbrella to be able to walk and get my degree, and most of my family ended up not being able to see me graduate because they got pushed away due to the rain. I would NEVER recommend this college to anyone. Beware! read more
