The entire staff was amazing from Amy at the front, Alania the dental hygenist, and Dr. Cavan. Location: across from SWC, in the same plaza at the Dollar Tree. Behind the Jack In the Box Setting an appointment was easy via phone with Amy. They are a smaller practice with one doctor, so the schedule is tight. I wasn't too concerned about the wait time to be seen however. Upon arrival, I was greeted with Amy's bright smile and great personality. First timers, give yourself those 15 minutes to fill out the paperwork. I used the restroom which was very clean and smelled lovely. Alania promptly retrieved me from the waiting area and was kind with explaining everything we were doing. Xrays, photos, and cleaning. Once she was done, Dr. Cavan came right on in and had already said she took a look at my xrays and photos. She could tell immediately some of my issues and promptly examined my teeth and came up with an oral care plan. When the exam was finished, I felt very confident that I knew what I needed and Amy met me at the checkout counter with the Oral care plan, costs, and thoroughly explained everything to me. I'm now scheduled to return with a clear understanding of what we will be doing, how, when, and the cost. I love smaller offices because the care & attention received is invaluable. This will be the office my parter gets oral care from as well. I'm glad to have found this jewel located in the Otay Lakes area. Give them a try!

Nice people, terrible dentistry…read more Originally went in for tooth pain and a cleaning, and ended up getting a terrible, 2-session cleaning and a possibly avoidable root canal. First, the cleaning. I'm nearly 50 and have been receiving dental care since I can remember, so when they stated it would take 2-sessions I was skeptical. The tech stated it would take a couple sessions because they had to numb me due to the extent of the cleaning needed. The first session they numbed one side of my mouth and then performed an extremely light cleaning, to the point I wondered why the need for numbing. The second session I requested no numbing and the same, very light cleaning was performed. This was 3-sessions, which took nearly 6 months to complete. Perhaps if they didn't bring people in 3 times for something that should only take 1 visit they wouldn't take so long to perform simple cleanings. Second, the tooth pain. I made it very clear to the tech and dentist where the pain was and what it felt like. After the x-rays, the dentist came in and said, "Not sure where the pain is coming from. There aren't any cavities, see?" and showed me the x-ray like I knew what I was looking at. I never said I had a cavity, just pain. Turns out after an excruciatingly painful weekend it was determined the tooth had cracked and become inflamed from infection. After getting the root canal at a different dentist (Endodontist) and returning to Otay Lakes Dental Care, they informed me they would put on a temporary crown and the permanent crown wouldn't be ready for another 2+ weeks. I would also have to chew on one side for 2+ weeks with the temporary crown and then another week with the permanent crown, to which I responded with some frustration that they had missed the cracked tooth and the rest. The front desk representative took immediate offense and basically showed me the door. The dentist did contact me and express concern for my experience, and explained the 2+ weeks for a crown is standard. I also own some responsibility for not pressing the issue, so I've updated my review.

The Wait: Arrived early for a noon appointment; wasn't even seen for X-rays until after 1:00 PM. The Tech: Their digital check-in failed, and the staff blamed the building's poor cell service. The Service: I went in for a cleaning. I left with no cleaning--only a "treatment plan" and a sales pitch. The dentist is kind, but the front-office staff is untrained and unprofessional. They will use up your insurance benefits without actually providing the service you booked. Total waste of 96 minutes.

The process was explained thoroughly from the beginning and I always knew what to expect at each stage. The trays were comfortable and easy to keep up with, and the office checked on my progress regularly to make sure everything was moving property. By the end of treatment my bite felt better and my smile looks noticeably straighter, but still natural. Overall, a very smooth experience and I'm really happy with my results. Doctor Seraj was great, strong communication before my appointment, including contacting my insurance and getting me a quote before the work. The staff was excellent, courteous and professional. When I first went here I was advised thay I should replace two older metal fillings that I had done many years ago. I was reluctant because they were not bothering me and felt great, but decided to go through and get the newer fillings done. Schedule with the doc and come in on appointment day. Was told they would only do one filling that day and not two. Not sure why, but okay. Filling done and scheduled for second filling. Show up and told that another doctor will be doing the filling. Not over thrilled with having multiple doctors as they each have their own way of doing things. Second filling done and its poor quality work. Sharp edge left, and not properly grinded down for bite. Cant feel that though since my mouth is numb. Had to reschedule to have that fixed. Went back in months later for a cleaning and again have a different doctor who does my care. I prefer to have the same doctor all the time, but having a different doctor each visit left me disappointed. To make matters worse, I write this a couple years after getting the fillings. The filling from the second doctor cracked and pieces broke off while eating. Went to a different dentists office who fixed the cracked filling and made mention that the other filling which wad done here was done poorly and re-filled that knew. No problems with that procedure at all.
