Rick's Music World - Acoustic guitar section

This shop doesn't have that corporate sanitation feel. everything is in its proper place but with a more eclectic atmosphere. It doesn't seem to fit in with the surroundings and what your used too when you think of a music store in or near taunton, by that i mean, its almost too good for the area. All and all, the 15 minutes I spent inside was very enjoyable. and i recommend this place based on that criteria.

I can't recommend this place enough!…read more I spent most of my life sick in bed so I wasn't capable of making my dreams of going around playing live music a reality. I walked in to buy some strings while their open mic was going on a year ago and tried it myself... I've been coming every week since. It's allowed me to live out my rock star fantasy in front of the most supportive and loving crowd ever. I've met so many friends here, it's more than just an open mic and a music store, it's a community and a family. I've played drums, bass, and guitar here with so many different local musicians in so many genres, it has helped me to grow and develop my skills for each instrument. It has, without exaggeration, changed my life. If open mics aren't your thing and you just want a place to buy an instrument, it's great for that too. Unlike bigger chains like Guitar Center where they just want your money and kick you out, you can have a long conversation with the people working here to make sure you're purchasing the instrument right for you. If you want lessons or you have a kid you'd like to get into music, this is the place for that, too. Often you'll see the Rick's Music World students play at the open mics and I used to think "A student? Eh, this won't be too good" and they always blow me away. Whether you're looking for a music community to change your life or you just want to buy a guitar, Rick's is the place to go.

The new owners are very…read moreintelligent, and are really well-educated, astute musicians and teachers themselves with many years of community service & performance and teaching experience. The pricing of instruments and rentals is in line with or slightly more affordable than what I've experienced at other area music retailers. They seem happy to do repairs. Some places will only repair stuff they sell in their own shop, but CMII is fine with repairing just about any piece of equipment. I believe that CMII is going to make great contributions to the cultural health and quality of life of Brockton and the surrounding area.

That's about all that they have is guitars. Sheet music for days and a few dated keyboards is what they have to offer. I checked their prices against Guitar Center and it's a lot more expensive! The music teachers are mediocre, nothing great. One complaint that I have is that the music teacher kept cancelling his appointments. At one appointment he didn't bother to even call and cancel. We showed up and they said he was on vacation! Really?! It seems as if this place is poorly managed and it's too bad. It has a nice look and feel, but don't be fooled. I'd rather travel to Braintree and try Guitar Center, or search for a private teacher.

I've never been steered wrong, oversold, or disappointed with their work. The expertise is endless! I was in an again recently, and happy to see not much has changed. I'd say if you want Guitar Center, go to Guitar Center. If you want individual attention, and a couple lifetimes of expertise, go see the Doc. If you want to support the Walmart of music, that's ok. Sometimes I do, too. But, if you want to shop local, support local businesses, and enjoy the mom-and-pop charm, go see the Doc. Reading the reviews here leaves me scratching my head. The one who had their bass setup done, came back a month later with questions and they didn't remember them...Ok. That's a 1 star review? Like, was there an actual problem? And, if there was a problem, did you have your receipt? Cause, I'm pretty sure they're not going to remember setting up your new bass a month later at Guitar Center, either. Or, maybe there is just more to that story... If you're on the fence, go check them out for yourself. Chances are good you'll think they're pretty cool, too.
