The place has a shabby chic kinda feel and a pretty casual atmosphere. I came in with a group of friends on a Wednesday night and getting a seat proved difficult. Due to a loop-hole in Germany's licensing laws, you are allowed to smoke in the majority of the bar. It is possible due to having a small room at the back which is classed as non-smoking, which is where we sat. We had our order taken at the table, which was nice. The server spoke pretty good english, although I tried my best to use some of my minimal german to order my food and drink. Everything was brought up pretty quickly and the food was tasty. Good quality schnitzel and a couple of 0.5lt beers for just over €11. Not to bad if you ask me.

Das Bürgerkomitee hat versucht, das authentische Umfeld weitgehend zu erhalten, um die Gäste etwas von der Arbeitsatmosphäre erahnen zu lassen, die bis 1989 in der "Runden Ecke" herrschte. Linoleumfussboden, gelbbraune Tapeten, Scherengitter an den Türen und Fenstern, Kabelkanäle und alte Heizkörper sind noch im gesamten Museum zu sehen. Geschichte wird hier sichtbar und greifbar.

The exhibition I happened to see was The Great Barrier Reef. As a visitor you are first stunned by the exhibits of different corals and sea creatures, then bombarded with facts about the different symbiotic interactions of sea creatures, before being led into the centre, and the piece de resistance - a 360 degree, 30 metre high picture of the Great Barrier Reef, complete with viewing platform (to see from different angles), changing light levels and relaxing music. Well worth a visit if you're in the area(though the exhibition changes on a regular basis so check in advance to find out what it is)

Lockers are provided for coats and backpacks, but I was able to keep my purse. The 10 euros entrance fee includes a self guided tour. Me and Hubby stayed and enjoyed the interactive activities. Loved learning about the six generations of Bachs and their music. Good stop for a Bach or classical music fan!

How am I the first person to write a review on Yelp about the Stasi museum in Leipzig? Wow. Just…read morewow. It's amazing to learn the many layers of history a country has and we all know Germany is rich in history. The 20th century alone was just craziness. Who knew Leipzig was the epicenter of the German secret police? I sure didn't. When my friend took me here to explore the museum it was mind blowing. It's so unreal to think that this didn't happen that long ago and it was happening in my generation. Husbands told on Wives. Children told on parents. Neighbors told on neighbors. Located in the former Stasi headquarters (that's deep!), it's free to enter and you have the option to purchase an audio guide (recommended, unless you can read German). It's nice because it's self guided, so you can stay in each room as long as you want. Each room is different, with various scenes depicting Stasi Germany. I think my favorite things (if you can call it that) were the disguises they used. It's literally out of the movies. Fake mustaches, briefcases with wigs, powder, suglasses, anything. It's really fascinating and scary that this wasn't scripted. It was real life for people not that long ago. You can also go to the site where they executed and tortured victims. More good times. We skipped that. A definite must see if you you're in this part of the world.

I returned to this part of Germany to see this museum in particular and learned that Vladimir Putin served some time in Dresden and Leipzig. If you want to understand why those who lived under the Eastern Bloc are the way they are, then understand each of us are the sum total of our experiences. There was no trust on the part of the authorities.
