To avoid having the rest of the group wait for us, we told them to go ahead and we'd wait for our ride. We were told by the wine tasting folks that we were welcome to sit in the restaurant and order a glass of wine while we waited (which we were happy to do and pay for). After the group left, we walked into the restaurant, and before we were even able to sit, a waiter came over and said they were not serving food anymore. We clarified it was just to grab a drink (which were informed by their colleague at the wine store was 100% ok, and from whom we just purchased a $90 bottle of wine from) , but he said sorry they are closed (it was 4pm and website says open until 5, and everyone else that we spoke to that WORKS THERE told us to go to restaurant and could wait there), meanwhile there were a bunch of tables that were eating mid-meal. That is despicable service and lack of business awareness. Instead we left and had to wait outside in 38 degC. Ridiculous. Worst service ever. Also we are are brown. All the people inside (and the server) were white. Make of that what you will. We did.

I didn't know Harper's Trail is the first winery in Kamloops, until we drove up to the gate and saw…read morethe sign indicating that. They had a busy summer and was sold out of most of their wine. We were lucky as they would close for the season the next day after our visit, and reopen in April or so. I never knew wineries will close for Fall/Winter. There were 5 types of wine to taste - Sparkling Chardonnay (like champagne - on the dry side) - Field Blend White (I like this, very light) - Silver Mane Block Riesling (not very sweet and is heavier than the Field Blend White, but has a stronger flavor) - Chardonnay (too dry for me, but it has an interesting oak flavor, not a typical Chardonnay) - Pinot Noir (only red available then, very strong and dry for me, but for red wine lover, this will be good) I bought 3 bottles - Field Blend White, Riesling and the Pinot Noir. The $5 tasting fee is waived if you buy a bottle of wine. I was told Harper's Trail specialized more in white wines, which could explain why they only have 3 types of reds (Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Field Blend Red). I also got the wine flavored jelly and honey. Lovely place.

The shop includes fun trinkets as well as locally-made honey and beeswax products. The tasting was $5 and is refunded if you buy a bottle of wine. The tasting includes 6 wines ranging from whites to reds. It is easy to get to and there are plenty of signs leading the way. If you're driving back to town afterwards, I recommend taking Shuswap Rd for a nice riverside drive. Watch out for cattle-guard.

Let me premise this review by saying that we planned our wedding in five weeks. Side note, my wife did everything including baking and decorating our three tiered wedding cake so what happened next help relieve some of the stress. I called Doug, the owner, to see about getting a case of the Gewürztraminer sent down to the Lower Mainland as I did not have time to run up to Kamloops to pick it up. I was advised that they did not have any courier or deliver service in place that they were satisfied with. He said they had some problems with previous couriers. When I explained my dilemma for the urgency, he advised me that he was actually coming to the Lower Mainland for some supplies and would be able to bring the case with him. When I asked him where he wanted me to meet in as I would drive to him since he was doing me the favour. He even delivered it to my office in Burnaby at no charge. That to me said a lot about the person that he is and the business that he operates. Everyone at the wedding enjoyed the wine, especially if they prefer sweet. I also went to Sagewood in 2022 when I was up in Kamloops. In fact I visit every time I go.
