Love love love this place. Yelp is a little sporadic in Ireland so I cross referenced with Trip…read moreAdvisor. So glad we came here. It was a Sunday night and we didn't know what to expect. Was kinda empty when we arrived, but both guys working were super friendly and, after learning we were from the US, were quick to adapt the conversation. One has a good friend that moved to Indiana, the other was a huge fan of Andrew Luck (Our quarterback for the Colts). We talked beer, American sports, and they could not have been friendlier. After I finished my Guinness I was hankering for some whisky. One of the guys showed me the local stuff and I, being intrigued, ordered a shot. He came back and warned me it was 11 euros. Omg how nice was that? So I ordered another Guinness. My wife doesn't drink beer, so they made her a Sex on the Beach cocktail that she loved. Around 10 a two man band started playing music. They were great. One of them seemed to be playing percussion on a wood box. We had never seen anything like it. I had two other bars on the list to visit tonight so we left prematurely. The second stop absolutely sucked. The bartender had no personality and wouldn't even consider mixing a drink for my wife. I wish we had stayed at McPhails all night.

Very, very cozy pub in front and a larger bar area in back where live music is frequent. They have a good-sized beer garden with heater lamps as well. For the ladies, there is a hair straightener in the women's toilets that you can use for €2. I did not use it, but I have to say I haven't seen such amenities in a pub before. Definitely a place worth checking out.

The authentic Victorian setting, the Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops, the mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern. The staff are helpful, friendly and patient since their accent is hard to understand sometime. My 1st beer and 1st Irish food, all I can say is what a meal, just simple delish. Being here is just a wondrous experience, the place is cosy, warm and the friendly of the people. So glad I picked this place as my first of Dublin.

If you want to experience a true Victorian pub in Dublin, The Stag's Head is a beautiful place to…read morestart. Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.

I cannot believe how large this pub is inside! We stopped by after seeing it on a "Traditional Pubs…read moreof Ireland" poster, and because my grandfather's name was James Griffin. The atmosphere was perfect! It was early Sunday morning, and there were already a few locals inside having their morning beer and reading the newspaper. I did some exploring because it looks so small on the outside, but you get in, and it just keeps going and going. Looks like they get large crowds during the evenings, and even offer lots of live music and DJs. The bartender was friendly.

So when you pass thru Trim to see the Castle, call in to this gorgeous pub. When you walk in, it is old school classic pub with beautiful woodwork and bar. From there, you can go in the cozy fireplace room that feels and looks great and leads to another cozy area to meet and be with friends. If you like patios, you're at the right place! Step out back and find a covered & climate controlled patio that is huge! They have a large smoking patio area (you can't smoke inside in Ireland either). Thru the patio, you can see a big events room that you can host a reception, party, meeting, whatever. It's been a few months since my last visit, but I've heard they have a new beer garden too! Oh yes, the drinks...the Guinness is perfect. You can get almost any tasty beverage here from a nice bartender. The owner is hands-on and always working to keep this place top notch.
