Wat Sacramento Buddhavanaram is not a "business" per se but a religious and cultural resource for the Sacramento Thai and larger community. My Thai wife and I have been attending the Wat (temple) almost since its inception over ten years ago. We generally go on weekends to offer food, in traditional Thai style, to the Theravadin Buddhist monks who reside, practice, and teach there, to participate in Buddhist services consisting of chanting and other customary rituals, and to enjoy socializing while dining on the various Thai and other dishes people have brought for the monks and each other.
The temple also offers Thai language, music, and other classes for anyone who wants to learn, and celebrates special Buddhist and secular Thai occasions with colorful festivities featuring ceremonies involving the monks, copious amounts of free food and Thai and Lao food for sale, and an abundance of alcohol-free merriment. Everyone is welcome.
If you are Thai, know any Thai people, want to learn the Thai language, are curious about Thai culture, or just want to eat authentic, home-cooked Thai food, you are welcome at Wat Sacramento Buddhavanaram. Saturdays and Sundays are the best times to come. The food offering to the monks begins shortly after 10 AM. If you come, be sure to bring some food with you to offer the monks, the remainder of which will be shared with all of the attendees. It doesn't even have to be Thai or Asian food. Fried chicken, pizza, lasagna, doughnuts, and foods of all kinds are welcome.
